Hi Roger , I think most os the salmon taste like crap sort of thing came about because the people catching them weren’t looking after them - if you leave any fish in a bucket out in the sun it will deteriorate quickly . I use a 2lt cordial bottle filled with water and frozen to keep my fish cool by part filling the bucket with sea water and putting the cordial bottle in the middle and i then place my fish in head first around the bottle . It doesn’t take long for the frozen bottle to cool the water down and i can also use it as a drink bottle . Sure it is an extra 2 kg to lug down the beach but as i can use it to cool the fish and drink its contents if i get thirsty i feel it worthwhile. Don’t Forget the fishcakes , once made they can be frozen and make a nice meal when the weather turns bad and you can’t get out for a fish ! The frames also make good crab baits !

Thank you for the great video full of enthusiasm!! I'm a retired fish Pathologist here in Oregon, and they don't look like any Salmonid, or more specifically of the genus Oncorhynchus, but if you like to call them salmon, who would want to argue!! I bet they taste like good redtail Sea Perch, here!!

Great info mate. Not sure if I mentioned it before but I fish Kilcunda and Inverloch beaches. I’ve caught salmon all year round and love the fight they put up. A few weeks back I was at Kilcunda and a huge flock of seagulls were feeding on white bait within casting distance. Salmon were pretty much everywhere! I pulled in 8 in quick succession on a metal spoon setup. Biggest was near 4kg so I was wrapped. Tight lines 🐟🐟

They are indeed quite underrated. I really enjoyed targeting them when I lived in Melbourne back in the early 90's!

Thoroughly enjoy your videos and your clear concise instructions make understanding and learning so easy. If possible could you include a video on the sizes and types of rods that you use, especially for beach fishing for whiting, salmon and flathead. Thanks and please keep up the great videos.

Hi Matt, fresh Squid and Live Mullet or Yellowtail are the best baits. If there is a descent gutter on Bungan give it a go at high tide.

Roger you’re such a great fisherman! I have learned so much from you on beach fishing. I was very excited when I was able to read the beach correctly and cast into the right spots. And to set up a rig even. I live in the state of Washington we have lots of serf perch in our waters. Any tips on catching this fish?

Hi Simon, I don't live in Victoria. I would need to do some research. I know that the colder water does have some impact on fish species that can be caught. You can still catch Mulloway in Victoria. The Barwon River is a consistent producer and the beaches around Barwon Heads.

Caught my first Salmon recently and absolutely loved fish cakes. Roger, could you kindly make a video on how and when to set up the hook/strike fish. I have lost a lot of fish due to not being able to set up the hook, either doing it to early or too late. Thanks heaps for your videos!
