This is one of my favorites. The bass player is David J. Carpenter and is not Rogers son. His son plays piano and drums and performed with Roger for a bit when he was 16. Roger effortlessly weaves the music around his audience giving an almost cathartic emotional release in some cases. His instantly recognizable voice and pulsating keys are in as fine a form as you will hear, and the genuine friendliness and personality of Hodgson, comes across in waves from stage to audience.

Always up for some SuperTramp in whatever form. It is so inventive and positive with a jazzy feel. Like Genesis, they are keyboard-heavy vs guitar heavy with great harmonies and interesting chords. Distinctive sound. All the instruments fit together so seamlessly. Great musicians. AND their music IS fun! Groovy FIRE! Much like Roger with SuperTramp, Steve Hackett is playing a lot of Genesis with his band to keep the music alive. Something to keep in mind going forward. (although Genesis has a much larger catalog from which to choose).

In the studio version, I count at least 4, but perhaps 5: 1. Electric Piano 2. Grand Piano 3. Solara Strings synth (some think this sound is 70's cheesy, but in my rig, it's ALWAYS available) 4. Moog for buzzy bass sound and possibly 'flute' after minor intro and before you first hear the change into verse Seeing Roger live, it was amazing - EVERYTHING was represented. Keys, guitar, bass, synths, even sax.

More Supertramp! There's not a lot of live Supertramp videos because they were most popular before music videos were really a thing. Roger is ok, but I would say listen to the actual band instead. I know you have done a couple of their songs, so I would recommend listening to Rudy, Even in the Quietest Moments, Fool's Overture, and Goodbye Stranger.

It's groove music, my friend. It just catches a groove and follows it while Roger sings like a bird flying over the groovin' flow. It has something in common with some types of jazz music that does the same thing...the band catches a groove and the individual musicians take turns stepping out with variations on it.

This PALES in comparison to the studio version. While it’s fun to see a live performance, it certainly does not do justice to the original. These guys are good but it’s not Rick on the piano. And the way they ended this was abhorrent. Horrible. Listen to the studio version and you’ll see.

Good , but the original version with the original band (Supertramp) is better. Yes, this song was written by Hodgson but the long piano solo belongs to Davies , he wrote it and this guy only a weaker copy of Davies , plus nobody can replace John on sax (plus Dougie , Bob).

Roger wrote this song with his relationship with Davies in mind. To me there is a mystical aspect to the song with incredible Master Piano that Rick Davies plays particularly in the studio version which is never repeated. The long piano piece is a masterpiece by Rick Davies. The recording in Paris live is great too. Of course, this is not the original band and Davies is not in this show. With multiple health issues Davies had to stop touring. But, also it seems that Roger found Rick difficult to get along. He felt that Rick did not value his work in the band as he should have. Nevertheless, the two genius musicians made a number of legendary songs.
