3 INGREDIENT FONDANT RECIPE FOR ALL WEATHER TYPES! │ CAKES BY MK

Are you sick of hard to knead, expensive, and not-so-good tasting store bought fondant? Or perhaps you're a home baker who would like to give fondant a go, but not quite sure where to start? Well in this video I'll be sharing with you guys an extremely easy homemade fondant recipe that only uses 3 ingredients, including marshmallows! Yes that's right, pillowy soft marshmallows are used to create this delicious and easy to use fondant, that is perfect for all types of cake decorating!
This recipe is also great to use for all weather types, including dry, hot or humid climates! Still remember to use best practices when using fondant though as even in the perfect weather, fondant can still go wrong when not dealt with correctly. Also take note of the adjustments I mention at 5:05 based on your weather type :)
This marshmallow fondant can also be turned into a modelling paste for projects that require a firmer fondant (such as figurines and flowers). Simply add in about 1/2 a teaspoon of tylose powder (or CMC) per 250g of fondant and you're good to go! If you stay in a really hot climate, adding a bit of tylose may also help in producing a more firmer setting fondant for cake decorating, if you wanted that extra reassurance! :)

    Hey MK! I can’t wait to try this out soon. I was wondering, do you think this would work well as a base for mirror glaze, provided the cake with fondant chills in the fridge? Would love to know your thoughts!

  • @CakesbyMK

    @CakesbyMK

    2 жыл бұрын

    Hi there! :) Hmmm I don't think this will work well for a mirror glaze as the moisture in the glaze may cause the fondant to disintegrate. You want to keep fondant away from moisture as much as possible, so adding a wet substance on top may not be the best thing! I would recommend using a buttercream or pouring the glaze over a mousse cake :)

  • @CakesbyMK

    Hi there! If the texture feels okay then it should be okay :) if you live in a humid climate then the water isn't as crucial. If it feels a little too stiff/crumbly once it comes to room temp then you can add a little shortening when you re-knead it to smooth it out :)

    My first attempt was a failure. When I added the marshmallow to the sifted icing sugar I ended up with lots of tiny lumps. Any suggestions on what I did wrong 😑 You made it look so easy.

  • @CakesbyMK

    @CakesbyMK

    2 жыл бұрын

    Hi Jean! Sorry to hear it didn't quite work out! It sounds like you may have too much icing sugar which is causing the little lumps. Try reducing the icing sugar quantity and remember to keep kneading until it comes together (it will be crumbly at first but will slowly come together). If you find that it's a bit too sticky because of the reduced icing sugar quantity, then you can simply add in more icing sugar :)

    Hi can i use these fondant for humid and rainy season? Is the cake with fondant toppers will not be wet or moist after taking out in the fridge ????

  • @CakesbyMK

    @CakesbyMK

    2 жыл бұрын

    Hi there! Yes you can :) and fondant toppers should be not be kept in the fridge as this may cause them to melt when you take them out :) the best thing is to make them and then leave them in a cool dry place to dry. Any condensation on a cake or fondant will be because the change in temp when taking it out of the fridge is too drastic. To prevent this you can take your cake out of the fridge into a temperature controlled room so that it's not too hot :)

    Hi Kimberly! If you stay in a hot climate then you may get some condensation, but this will go away as you knead the fondant. If it's a little sticky as you're kneading it, you can just add some more icing sugar. Keeping it in the fridge is only for storage purposes, but once the fondant is on a cake then you should try and keep it out of the fridge :)

    I learned that marshmallows are made with geleten. Geleten are not halal because they come from pigs? How true is it?

    Hi Zainab! Good question! So gelatine can also be made from beef, so in many places around the world you can also find halal gelatine which is made from beef. The marshmallows I'm using in this video are made from beef gelatine and are halal :)
