Thanks for the information. We rescued one and thought of getting a second to keep him company but the bird shop that had other rescues recommended against that. Saying they would most likely attack each other. Good to know that might not be true. But on the positive, ours has a parakeet, a cockatiel and a Golden to play with and fly around. So I’m hoping he is ok as a single parrotlet.

@@celarm153 , all birds have their own cages for nap time and overnight. When they are all out, they are free to fly and eat each others food and water and explore. The parrotlet, parakeet and the cockatiel usually hang together. The Golden kinda keeps to herself. But the parakeet is everybody’s friend or pest 😂

I totally agree. Thanks for sharing. 1. Celestial/Pacific parrotlets are native to the coastal region of Ecuador/Peru. Being near the coast helps to regulate the temperature from the temperature extremes that are seen more inland. 2. I almost never give our parrotlets fruit other than the occasional berry. I've found my parrotets dont really go for fruit anyway. 3. A big cage for sure - combined with as much time out of the cage as is feasible - they are part of the family! 4. That is so cool all your parrotlets get along. I'd love some tips on improving a relationship between two parrots. I have three parrotlets: Chip, Bijou and Delphie. Chip and Bijou are a bonded pair and share a cage and Delphie has her own cage. Chip gets along with both birds but Bijou and Delphie do not get along. I do let them out of the cage together but lots of room is required to avoid a fight. Will they ever get along or do some birds just not like each other?

LOL I just saw your latest video after I posted the above comment. Having 3 has been challenging at times for sure. My bond with all three is pretty good as I do flight practice with them daily. Delphie the single bird is the only one who accepts scritches though. Chip and Bijou would never accept scritches as they scritch each other.

@@CACTASTIC Thanks for posting, love your comment. Working on a video for you! Three is a funny number with parrots in my experience... And thanks for telling me about their climate living, in other words that they live near the water where it's cooler. Totally makes sense!

Here in germany in the west, around cologne, bonn there are this green Indian parrots they are part of nature right now. I moved away from cologne 2 years ago now they are like 40 km south. Along the river they populated pretty well and doing well :)) They escaped like 30 Years ago from a zoo and now they overtook the cities :))

Great info. When I lived on Long Island there was a bird store. The owner kept his breeding Amazons and Hyacinths outside all year. He had super custom flight cages and easy for him to access nest boxes. He would use tarps as wind breaks and.heat lamps if it became frigid. I found it very interesting. Don’t you think any bird can overheat or get cold. I think all birds need a friend of their species.☺️

Yes, they can get cold or too hot. Parrotlets more so, must be due to their size? One thing I like about ,-most- breeders is that they have to take good care of their birds or they don't reproduce. So they do what they can to meet their needs. Yes, I strongly agree, birds needs a friend of their own species. I'd feel the same way.

Congratulations! How many are you getting?

I loved the video, I bought my first parrotlet end of May and bought my second in August. I was also told by specialty bird shop not to cage them together. I was told by the breeder that I got my 2nd from that you can but you need to let them get to know each other first. I bought a cage with a divider and they have been in it for a couple weeks. I let them eat together on a play perch and they have side by side cages in their own room to sleep in. They are starting to talk to each other now. I am enjoying them and so is my husband. What does the wiggle neck mean? Funniest thing I have ever seen a bird do.

I'm so glad you also heard that you could put them together - I hate to have one alone. For me, they always seem to really take to being together. The way you've done it is fantastic, it really lets them get to know each other. You could probably take your middle divider out and watch to see how they behave. The wiggle neck is them getting ready to regurgitate to feed one another. It is how they bond and express love. They may do it to try to feed you or each other. Congratulations on your parrotlets!

I love your channel. I have decided to get Sydney a companion. We have to get a 2nd (just as large as Sydney’s flight cage) cage for a 2nd bird just in case they don’t get along at first. I spent all day trying to get all of the pinfeathers around his face that a friend or partner would groom for him. He let me scritch a bit of them off, but you’re so right, parrotlets need a companion of their same kind to do these kind of things with them. I feel so bad that he’s got all of these pinnies and I can’t get them! So thank you for being one of the only people to shatter this myth that parrotlets need to be alone. I wish people would stop repeating it. oh, and I got that same carrier off of Amazon. I’m gonna return it. Syd HATES it. He happily hopped into it and sat inside no problem, but when I took him in the car for a ride to run errands, he screamed and tried to bite his way out the entire time. It’s way too small. Maybe ok for only the tiniest of finches to take to the vet.

I swear I responded to your post - I also wish people would stop saying that Parrotlets need to be alone. They certainly need to be supervised at first -- and I am very careful about putting 3 in a cage-- I'm glad you've gotten Sydney a friend - How is it going?

@@ParrotBliss It’s going fine, thank you for asking. We got a budgie. Probably should have gotten another parrotlet. But instead we got a budgie because, well, opportunity. They’re grooming eachother and becoming friends. The budgie is very smart and cute. But can be super pesky to the parrotlet sometimes. So I am supervising their interactions, and they will never live in the same cage. They get to fly around the house together at the same time. But it is super cute to see Sydney lean down and ask to be preened by the budgie, who accommodates him. Maybe we will get a companion for each bird of their own kind soon

Im trying to figure out if I should stick my original plan and just get one parrotlet male in the beginning just untill hes tame, or if i should start with 2 from the get go, pls can you advise me of the best thing to do

Sounds like he needs some work to do (besides biting), Have you tried target training with a clicker and a Chopstick? Training will help your communication and your bond.

I have a female parrotlet just over a year old who seems to be developing an egg. It's been 5 or 6 days since I noticed her a little "pregnant" and she has found a "nest" that she sits in for increasingly long times. I see her now almost dragging on the ground but she's eating, flying and plenty of normal looking poo. I'm worried about her being egg bound because of how long it's been with no egg production. Other than the hormonal behaviors and a lump almost the size of her head up her bum, she seems pretty normal. I really hate to stress her out in her "delicate" condition with an unnecessary vet visit. Am I just being an over concerned parent?

I had my male and female together in the ** same cage for a little over a week. One day I came home to find a small chunk taken out of male’s beak. After that, I put them in separate cages- so *** beware of aggression from either gender.

Are they just playfully nibbling or does that bites hurt? The one with the blue head feathers has a mucky beak? Can they clean their beaks themselves or do you have to do it?

This is why having two is advantageous, they preen each other. Having two increases your fun, entertainment and companionship; for them it increases their health and well-being. No, her nibbles don't hurt, with a few exceptions. I find that they grow out of it around 8-10 months, with few exceptions.

Young baby birds can get food hardened on their beaks...wipe it off so it doesnt get stuck. The last few droplets of food you feed should be more moist so no food is left inside birds upper beak after hand feeding.

I have two parrotlets, they are social yes, but VERY assertive and mean. My big blue has plucked all feathers off my little greenies head and neck, he is hurting him if they are caged together. They are brothers and like each other, but the big brother is mean and i have to separate them. They are together in free flight, but never caged together anymore.

I'm sorry to hear that. How old are they? Sometimes it is hormonal. As they grow up it changes and they can be caged together again. In any case, what a wonderful thing that you are watching carefully and taking care of them as sometimes perhaps do need to be caged separately. It's just like people, not everyone gets along. Some fall in love right away and some fallen hate right away, as it would be...

For some reason my parrotlet is very playful, sometimes he makes me laugh so hard.

Vegetables daily, I only do fruit on a very rare occasion. Parrots are not made to digest ripe fruit.

Hello. I have a very frustrating issue with my female parrotlet. First of all, she is incredibly tame and sweet once she is out of her cage. The issue is that ever since I've had her until the present (about a year now), she absolutely will not come out of her cage voluntarily. I take her out every day as gently as I can with a soft cloth, but she is in attack mode the whole time, tryin to bite me, and sometimes flys out suddenly, and I then have to struggle for a long time to catch her and get her back into the cage; I'm too frustrated by then to try any more for that day. She is in her own separate cage from my other parrotlet (male), and the cages are right next to each other. They both clearly like to see each other and chatter to each other, although the male doesn't exactly accept her when they are out of their cages at the same time. I feel like they keep themselves entertained nicely for most of the day when I can't really interact with them very often. Now I only get them out separately, in a different room from the cages, which works just great. What should I do? I feel like the female will never present herself to ask to come out like my other bird does. Apologies for the long comment. Any advice you might have will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

It sounds like they are frustrated that they can't be together, they are very social birds. I have 2 boys that play together all day all over my house and sleep together in the same cage. They fight occasionally but never hurt each other. They also take turns having sex together 😂😂it's hilarious, but they're best friends 😊

We have two parrotlets, one male and one female. We believe he is scared of her and they fight between the bars. We never put them together. But I wish they could stay in the same large cage together? Any tips?😊

Thanks for the compliment! I can’t guarantee, but yes, I would try to get him a friend. If you can get an adult, that is better. A baby Hass to grow up before they can be properly introduced.

They can do either, mine generally grew up together.

My parrolets keep breading but no eggs. I'm pretty sure I have a male and a female. They are a little over a year old.

Do you want them to breed?

Is this bird loud, annoying, or screams like a cockatiel? My family is bothered by loud bird noises, so I want a bird that is not too loud and does not make annoying noises at night. I will take care of it by providing toys in the cage and taking it out for an hour and a half each day, once in the morning and once at night. Is this bird suitable for these things?

Are parrotlets supposed to be puffed up all the time? This is my first parrotlet so I can't tell if he's sick or if he's fine. He puffs up on one leg for most of the day but his eyes are wide open and he eats more than plenty.

It's hard to say. When they sleep, they fluff up a little. If he is eating and is perching, he may be okay. When in doubt, it's always best to take him to an avian vet. They generally have times during the day when they fluff up and times when they don't. So I don't blame you for being a little worried, I would be too. I would have him checked out.

I thought there endothermic or something which means they generate there heat from food like other parrots and birds or is that wrong?

Correct, most parrots can adjust to temperatures when properly acclimated. Parrotlets - at least Celestial - cannot.

@@ParrotBliss I didn't know that I thought they were all alike lol I'm in the uk so gets cold here I used to have a breeding pair and had bout 3 clutches of baby's that I sold but I kept one baby blue that I tamed and is quite a sweetie lol but I've always kept them inside to be honest

@@nickbailey5201 No doubt, they only breed indoors or places, like by the ocean, where there isn't much temperature variation. I bet the little boy you kept is awesome, they are wonderful parrots. They seem less common in Europe and the UK, is that true?

@@ParrotBliss there's places u can get them a few yrs ago they seemed to be booming in all the pet shops but now it usually involves a long drive it's easier to find them online here though and then go directly to a breeder yh it's actually a girl I kept but tbh I'm always calling her a good boy lol

My female LOVES eating my plants, especially my orchids!! 😞

Yes, I've had a few 'deaths by parrot'

I do have a question for you since I cannot seem to find the answer to it anywhere. I pulled parrotlet babies from mom and the smallest one that was 3 days old did not make it but the older one that was 5 days old is still alive and in the brooder being hand fed by me every 3hrs around the clock. The baby is now 12 days old and has not grown any and still has eyes closed. He digests his formula well and I am keeping the formula at 106 degrees. But the baby has not grown any and I have compared him to other babies that I have seen on the net, or I have raised. Do you have any advice? I don't want to lose him too :( Sorry forgot to add that mom quit feeding them is why I pulled them. I usually pull babies at 2-3 weeks old

@@ParrotBliss Yes but I have not weighed him, hes just not getting any bigger and no signs of pin feathers coming in. No eyes open as of yet and I know the eyes can open as late as 14 days and he is 12 days. wish I could post a photo here. I will go weigh him but I am not sure what he should weigh at 12 days old.

@@ParrotBliss Ok will do. I feed 1/2 cc because he is so tiny and I watch the crop to make sure it is not over filled because he could aspirate , if he is not empty in 3hrs I wait a bit longer. Don't want him getting sour crop on top of his slow growth. His Brooder temp is 98 F , He is in a Brinsea Brooder. Thank you Edit to say he is nekkid as a jay bird so I try to keep him as warm as possible.

These two in video appear boy and girl. Are they siblings? How old each when paired? I have male baby for year. I may get another male someday here in SoCal. Hope the can get along if go slow.

Hi Parrot Bliss - I live in Australia and have bred & kept many , many types of parrots for over 40 yrs now . I listened to your video and I am going to disagree with your statement on too many strawberries and only giving unripe fruit and I'll explain why . You say that they should have as larger cage as one can provide as they are a bit of a mini " power house " type of bird then you say don;t give them strawberries as they are only tiny little guys and that would be too much sugar , if you think about it your macaw can fly a mile easily , but its a lot more work for these little ones as they are so small , so if you think about it they would naturally burn off that excess sugar. I have always fed my parrots a assortment of fruit & veg , yes they waste a lot but they are foraging which is healthy. You say there is strawberries everywhere and thats because of a sugar high , give your macaw a punnet of strawberries and see what a mess he/she makes . I think most things in moderation is fine & if they are getting well exercised I've never had a problem. The belief they go for the small ( crappy ) fruit is more from bigger more aggressive birds getting the good stuff.I enjoy your video's & i'm not being a smart arse by any means just felt the need to clarify this .A little bird won't eat what a big bird will , but if the larger parrots left a yummy bit of fruit , my money is on the parrotlet scooping it up without a second thought . how long do a male paralett bird settle in he just seat all day he is eating and drinking ok but no sound come fro him he as got toys in the cage as well I like to bond with him
