This is literally the first song I learned "for real" and because of that it's also the song I first practiced ghost notes with (a lot). I play guitar as my first instrument, 20 years almost. But I started to drum a little over 6 years ago and Fool in the Rain was not a good first song but it was a great first song at the same time.

One of THE most ignored ghost note grooves is in Boz Scaggs' "Miss Sun". Many will mention "Fool in the Rain" or "Rosanna" in most conversations and rarely -- if ever -- bring up "Miss Sun" in a discussion. The ghost note placement and use is so subtle and sublime, many who've listened to the song for decades are amazed when they listen for the ghost notes. Don't believe me? Check out anyone doing a drum cover of the song. No one gets the ghost notes right or don't play them at all. And it is this subtlety that causes it to slip under even seasoned drummers' radars. And who is the drummer of this gem? None other than the virtuosity himself, Jeff Porcaro. Note: Even Jeff Pocaro doesn't get Jeff Pocaro's ghost notes right. Toto does a cover of "Miss Sun" where he doesn't play the song quite the same.

A quick throw out track I recommend for learning, is always gunna be the 2nd track(first actual song after the intro) from limp bizkits significant other.john Otto is a killer groove player. That tracks more basic but any level drummer could benefit from locking that beat down to 100%

Andi, very nice video , great instruction. I play "ghost" notes without even realizing it :):) But not as good as you. I'm watching many YT videos to hone my drumming abilities. I am 70 yo retired guy, a resurrected drummer after 50 years (1969), who learned basically by ear (alright, I had maybe 8 lessons in 1966). I have been "practicing" for about an hour a day , playing to My Music. As another poster so eloquently stated... Miss Sun, Fool In the Rain, and Rosanna are great examples of Ghost Note playing. There are few others that don't fully come to mind right now (Doobie Bros. songs), but it is apparent that the strokes are Moeller strokes which I never practiced nor was that stroke technique instructed way back when. I intend to give this Ghost Note playing a whirl. THX again for your time to make this video. Happy Drumming All. PS... For Reference to the Young folks out there, in my day, after first learning the basic Jazz and Rock beats, it became a passion to pursue Syncopation. My Fav drummers in no specific order: Ginger Baker, Keith Moon, Jon Bonham {I can't touch him], Dino Danelli [Rascals, check him out form his early days], Steely Dan's Drummer, Allman Bros Drummer, Steve Gaad (I didn't know who he was playing for Paul Simon and others, until recently, Kenny Aronoff [John Mellencamp], Charlie Watts , Ringo and so many others.

Yes because what the world wants and needs right now is more programmed drums. So glad you're spending your practice time doing something a computer program can do automatically now. Such a useful skill to have, must be why every single song these days has the same programmed beats. Because they are just THAT GOOD!!! Groove, feel and pocket are for the birds what I really want is ultra quantization. So inspiring......
