Keeping the injectors clean and air filter clean and proper tire inflation are excellent suggestions. My basics over many decades were free flowing exhaust, Air intake kit, & bed cover. Cleaning injectors and air filter and tire pressure are part of maintenance. Most young people never take a shop class and your suggestions are leading them in the right direction. Cool video. I have a 2007 4.0L V6 Tacoma Prerunner 4x4 with 250k no issues. I avg 22.5mpg 20 city and 25 hwy and it’s on 285/75R16. I would recommend the following to improve: Tire pressure, oil (full synthetic), oil filter, change all spark plugs (Iridium), remove the weight (spare tire and other items not needed) install cold air intake, install oil catch can, clean Mass air flow sensor, check O2 Sensors and coolant . The two most important task is buying the proper gas (Oct 87 is fine higher Oct only cleans out roughy idles patches) from proper gas stations (cheap gas little to no detergent). I use Exxon, they have additives in the fuel already. Same goes for Chevron, Shell and Cosco gas (40 CFR Part 80). Become a member if you use only one store all the time to off set the prices and save. Lastly after 10k miles you want to clean your intake values. Tacoma are Gasoline Direct Injection which means your values build up from carbon overtime. Walnut blasting is recommended but you can buy Intake cleaner and vacuum it through a engine hose line vs adding it to the fuel tank. Not to discourage your video but only 20% of the additives work when you add them through the gas tank. If your engine is a PFI then you benefit more. Driving habits is also a big issue in mpg. Higher rpm more gas so keep your RPM less than 2500. I drive 80mph on Texas roads and get about 20mpg every time. Tip: Less than 45mph windows open or down. Greater than 50 mpg AC on. Sorry I was trying to keep it short and compact I hope this advice helps some of Yall out.

My buddy is a mechanic with over 40 years of experience and he told me that the additives aren’t necessary due to the cleaners the fuel these days already have. Tire pressure, air filter and driving habits are the best way to improve mpg.

It is really a li'l too soon to tell... Since it is 6 months since she released the video, if she had ANYTHING to report, I would call the product a fail... Any decent finish should last a few months. Based on having been a car detailer back in the 90s when PTFE was the big new thing, a decent coating was going to wash to "perfectly clean" with just a hose 3-6 months later, and the high end coatings of the time where good 6 months to a year (with one ultra high end product I offered was good for 2+ years.) I expect she will get good beading for 6=8 months IF she does not do any finish maintenance, but any detailer would use a booster product which should extend to a bit over a year. Personally I am going Chemical Guys this year. Next year I may go with NanoSkinz or Adams to get a comparison, but I am keeping an eye on a couple Hydrosilex users

My 2020 4x4, V6 Tacoma Access Cab with a 6 foot bed gets 26.8 MPG doing 68 MPH, on the freeway. In town I get 19.7 MPG, stop and go and up to 45 MPH. I have the Firestone Destination Tires set at 32 PSI. And it hits 60 MPH very fast and sounds great. I think that the tires are the best way to improve MPG. I would not waste my time with much else. All my other new Toyotas 4x4s had the big tires and never better than 19 MPG. I do not do a lot of off road with these tires, but it has never let me down on the trail.

That's what we use in the Toyota/Lexus shop I work at. Also using fuel additives every tank of gas is a waste of money in my opinion. Use it maybe once a year or so many months. Also she praises Chevron and their fuel quality is pretty bad. Lots of knock in the tuning community. I recommend Shell, or Costco fuels.

I have a 2007 Camry. You do not get better fuel mileage with higher air pressure, you get less. The previous owner of my car had the air set at 40psi for every tire. As soon as changed it back to down to 35 psi, fuel economy improved immediately. Too much air pressure per tire makes your ride drink more, not less.

I use Dextron 3 as a fuel injector cleaner because it's cheap and it also cleans the spark plugs, valves and pistons, put it in before you fill up and run the vehicle down to a quarter tank before filling up again. I promise you it will not hurt any part of your truck. I use it in my 07 Tacoma and my 09 Matrix and my 2016 Rouge. You will notice a little boost in power because the transmission fluid will lubricate the cylinder walls. I also went with a K&N air filter.

This stuff actually makes a small difference. I've been a mechanical engineer for 40 years and am highly skeptical about this kind of stuff. But Advance Auto Parts had a buy one, get one free special so I figured "why not?". My 2017 Tacoma TRD Offroad has a little over 85,000 miles on it and I typically average about 20.3 MPG (stock size KO2s, bed cover, manual transmission). The tank with the additive is averaging 20.6 MPG - so about a 1.5% increase in fuel economy. This is kind of surprising since modern vehicles have a lot of engineering to optimize fuel economy - it's hard to squeeze out anything extra. The engine may be running smoother, I'll have to pay more attention next trip. It'll be interesting to see if the improvement persists across multiple tanks of gas.

Techron is great. Use it 2x per year in all my cars. Keeps the injectors clean. I use Marvel or Lucas in the gas on the regular with an occasional seafoam. I use them all. Might be a waste of money. Have nothing to compare not using these products. I change the oil with mobil one 15k oil with a mobil one 15k filter every 5k miles. I am a maintenance fanatic. To keep your truck tip top only costs a few dollars more averaged out. Have a 22 TRD Off Rd on order and I plan on bring buried in it. It's gonna go 1 mil miles at a minimum.

You won't. Additives are a money grab. I'm a certified motorcycle tech with Yamaha and Honda. The very best things you can do is accelerate slower, regular maintenance(oil/filter/plugs) buy non ethanol gas, and check tire pressure. Buying regular pump gas and adding ethanol "reversing" additives is a pipe dream compared to actually using non ethanol gas. Not all stations carry it. And it is a bit more per gallon. But it's scientifically better. I guarantee my certifications on it.

That is not a true statement, but there IS a question of cost vs return. Typically the cost of the additives is far greater than the bonus they give in fuel economy, but in the case of fuel system cleaners, if they work as advertised (not all do) the real benefit is not fuel economy, but rather engine component longevity. The same is true of some oil additives, and some coolant additives. In the end you may see a couple extra MPG, the cost will almost assuredly be greater than the cost of the fuel, but as the saying goes "your engine will thank you"... For those of us looking to see out Toyotas reach their 250-350k mark, this is a good thing. The tire pressure and air filter WILL see MPG bonuses slowing down to 55-65 on the highway will give the biggest bonus, but is not something we modern Americans are often willing to do, and depending on where you live runs the risk of someone getting angry and shooting you for it.

Thanks Chloe Ill have to give this stuff a try 👍 Idk if you thought about getting a tune but id highly recommended it. My truck did not like me adding weight to it, the transmission was not happy lol. It greatly reduces gear hunting, which allowed my truck to drive much smoother. My Mpgs also went from around 16-17 to 20-21 on 285/75/16s 😊

I can't wait for the new generation Tundra's, Tacos and 4runners that will get 30+ MPG. These 14 mpg trucks will be absolete by 2025. Good vid! Techron does help with mpg and keeps the engine running smooth had it on my 01' VQ35 truck. 👍

The biggest creator of carbon is in running an engine for short rides, where the engine doesn't get up to its normal operating temperature, so your riding on the highway for an hour is actually good for it vs. just doing just some local short runs into town and such. Also too, the Tacoma engine uses a fuel system called D-4S, shorthand for direct-injection four-stroke gasoline engine Superior version, which employs both direct- and port-fuel injection depending on need and load. While Direct injection is notorious for carbon buildup on the intake valves, the port injection helps wash the intake valves off. It's the best of both worlds. Running those aggressive tires certainly isn't going to help your milage any. Then don't forget, changing the tire diameter messes up your speedometer reading as well, so look up the correction factor for the tire diameter you are running. Running a good Tier 3 gasoline, like Chevron is good as well, especially w/its Techron in it. Then use gasoline from a well-used gasoline station vs. one that isn't, is good too. The well-used one has a good circulation of fresh new gasoline in its tank vs. a non-populator one, which has fuel sitting in its tank for a long time, which gets old, and moisture collects in it as well. I've got a 2020 Tacoma Extended Cab TRD 4x4 Sport w/a 6 speed manual transmission, w/stock tires, w/the tire pressures set at 35 psi, and I've gotten around 24 mpg doing 70 in cruise control. Of course, that varies when it comes to hills and such.

My Tacoma doesn't like full-throttle accelerations, happiest to slowly come up to speed and just cruise along. Back roads at 60 mph are much nicer drives than trying to keep it at 80 mph on interstate (yes, I am in Texas). Oh, the worst ride I had was after picking up my Tacoma. Cold icy roads, kept thinking "boy this suspension is harsh". Two weeks later I discovered 60 psi in all four tires! The door sticker listed 30 psi recommended.

The gas at Chevron is far less concentrated than the complete fuel system cleaner, so you'd be safe using it.
