bonus: you can use any scraps to make new little toss toys (cardboard is perfectly safe for rabbits when eating in moderation, so just not too much)

How did you make that little cardboard chew mat? Can you show me? I would greatly appreciate it!!

I refuse to give my rabbit any thing that has ink on it. I know some are safe but I'd rather safe then sorry.

Most bulk print services (phone books, newpapers, etc) use soy-based ink that is completely safe.

How did you make the mat

Very helpful. I have rabbits that don't like conventional toys, and I'm going to give these ideas a try.

about the phone book wouldn't it be kinda dangerous cuz of the ink? I don't mean to hate I was just putting it out there

You can give your rabbit a phone book but be sure that the ink on the paper is made from soy beans. Soy-based inks are safe and non-toxic just like water-based inks. These kinds of sink will not poison your rabbit when they chew them or eat them so you don’t have anything to worry. Most phone books’ papers are printed with soy-based ink so you just have to be sure that you give the right phone book to your bunny.

good video, I have another suggestion put a towel in the cage ,floor,box,or basket (terry towel type is best) my rabbits love digging into this(i found this out by accident lol), also a plastic box with sand in, again buns love to dig into this, later :-)

Absolutely do not use yarn!!! yarn is hard to digest and will cause an impaction if consumed

you would use hay for the diys. the reason why is because bunnies like to pull the hay out to eat it. They wouldn't want to pull the wood out.

Absolutely not! Yarn can easily cause impaction in the gut (a blockage)

I like the toys except for the phone book due to the treated pages and ink in the pages could be bad for the rabbit. Going organic is better like pine cones, twigs, and such would be better.

Pipe cleaners have a wire in them. If the bunny chewed on it, that could be bad. Sisal string is perfectly safe.

Your rabbit should not be actually ingesting the cardboard. If s/he is, look for some rabbit-safe branches for bunny to chew on. You can find rabbit safe types of woods at the House Rabbit Society website (and they also have a FB page).

it actually is safe for bunnies to eat cardboard! it has cellulose in it, which is in a lot of the vegetables they like, thats mainly why they like to chew on it. of course, cardboard shouldnt be substituted for normal meals xp as long as they dont eat too much too fast and are eating other, healthy things, they'll be perfectly fine

I feel like a lot of these materials are very unsafe to use. The only thing that was really okay was the toilet paper roll. Everything else had a lot of ink on it, which isn't safe for your bunnies to consume unless it's soy-based. Please check all the products you use before giving them to your bunny.

Are you providing grass (such as timothy) hay for your rabbit? Provide rabbit-safe wood for bunny to chew on. If you don't what "rabbit safe" means, go to the House Rabbit Society and they have a VERY information page there.
