You could do the same thing with a toaster oven, since that's all an air fryer is. It is nothing more than a tabletop convection oven. So just get a toaster oven with a fan in it and it can do everything an air fryer can do and more, and most likely better at that.
I have had an air fryer that does everything for 3 years now and I haven’t used my oven but one time since then. Like a toaster oven but it will hold a 9x13 pan and has dehydration and proofing mode as well as toast, bake and rotisserie. Definitely the best thing we have ever bought!!
Limes ARE 100% under rated. I always have limes in my fridge because they add a real punch to a lot of dishes. Whenever a recipe calls for lemon juice, try lime instead. You will probably love it!
You should do a whole episode dedicated to warming up left overs in an airfryer.. Most left overs when warmed in an airfryer taste almost as good as when they were first made or just bought.. Some options are Battered Fish and Chips, Pizza, Cottage Pie (Place in a ramekin that can fit into your airfryer to warm up) These things and others warm up way way better in an airfryer rather than in a microwave..

Couldn't agree more about reheating. At the chippie no matter how small a portion I order we always end up with too many chips. If you freeze them and air fry them they come out really nicely. (very different to chip shop chips, a lot more crispy but nice all the same).

I love my air fryer!! My hubby bought mine about 3 yrs ago and I use it weekly. Mine can do anything from rice to cake and chicken thighs to a whole rack of ribs. My air fryer also is a pressure cooker, dehydrator, and an air fryer. The Foodi Ninja is one of the best things I have in my kitchen. According to the directions that came with my air fryer you should always preheat for meats.
Nice one Barry, and I did spot what you did initially with the scones to keep everyone happy, one with Jam on first and the other with the Cream on first at about 12 mins into video lol

haha yep!
I bought a airfryer and as a disabled person who struggles with grip and balance it's been a revelation for me. No longer do I need someone else to cook things for me it's given me a lot of independence in cooking my own meals and getting involved in the kitchen!
I've recently got an air fryer (the two drawer Ninja) and it's amazing, especially when cooking two types of food. I've been experimenting with different dishes in it and I'm really enjoying it, meat is also juicy and tender, veg comes out perfect, homemade wedges take less than half the time my oven takes and become crisper and warming up leftovers makes the dinners nearly as good as when the dinner was freshly made. And it's amazing to warm up left over pizza. I've noticed that my electric bill has drastically reduced now that I'm not using my oven much as well. For the ease of cooking, the cooking speed, quick clean up time and lower electric usage it's hard to see how they are a fad and going to die out, I personally think that they are here to stay.
PLEASE do more of these! Home made air fryer fish fingers would be amazing to see and I will definitely try those onion rings for sure! Air fryers are honestly very simple and versatile too! Apparently you can bake a cake or even dehydrate meats in our Ninja air fryer so they can so much more than most people realise! so I would love to see more!
I'd love seeing you play around more with the "hot air convection oven". I'm thinking of getting one myself, and love to see people trying out what their limits are.
The biggest misconception with an air fryer is that people only see it as a replacement for a deep fryer. Instead, you have got to see it as a small fan oven. And as such, you should always preheat your air fryer. You wouldn't put any food in your oven without preheating it, would you? For some recipes it wouldn't make much difference, but in most cases (especially foods with little cooking time) it will cook better with better crust and/or charring. I have been cooking in an air fryer for many years now and there isn't much I wouldn't cook, bake or fry in mine. Meats, fish, vegs, potatoes, it all works great. For some, more liquid, recipes you have to use molds, but that usually works great. Just be carefull with lighter ingredients such as the tortilla's you warmed up. The will fly up to the heating element, so weigh them down in the air fryer. Good luck with experimenting on more recipes. You will see the light one day. The air fryer is here to stay. ;-)

Airfrying will be a thing at least in Asia, because actual wall ovens are quite rare unless you have a baking hobby. Freestanding ovens are a thing of course, but since they are smaller, many struggle to adapt big baking recipes for them and so skip ovens entirely.

As an Ex- white appliance engineer, you have to remember that the average oven will consume 2200-3000 watts while cooking. The average Air fryer uses between 750-900 watts. So using your oven to cook for 20 mins, is like using your Air fryer for an hour. Similar energy consumption. Oven if you can fill it to cook a meal, Air fryer for small items. Simple knowledge most people don't know. Great channel by the way.
We operate a commercial kitchen (B&B). We had a similar one to yours which we loved and used everyday. Just upgraded to the 9.5l Ninja duo and it's a game changer best £250 we ever spent. It's a bit more sophisticated as has max fry, air fry, bake, roast settings etc. Love it love it love it. Gonna deffo try the onion rings in it 🙂
I like lime better than lemon. I make a mean lime shrimp with rice pilaf. I love watching you and cooking new stuff. Thank you for your ingenuity and cooking talent. Sending ❤ to you, Mrs. B and the young ladies. God bless you all.
The air fryer is also one of the best ways to reheat pizza. I usually do 5 minutes at 370F (I have no idea what that is in celcius), and it makes it nice and crispy and melty again. So much better than using a microwave for that!

Cheers yeah i've added a note to the recipe write-up about adding a ramekin on top or something, was a sort of magic trick when it happened lol
Barry, there are numerous reasons people choose air fryers as an option. You were 100% right about the healthier cooking option and the other reasons are why this will be much more than a fad. For single people, married couples, college students who don't have many options for dorm-room cooking , people trying to save money on their electricity bill or people who can't bend much or lift much due to age or infirmary these things are amazing. When we first started using ours there were only small 2.4 quart versions on the market. These days you can get ones double to triple the size with 2 drawers or in some cases multi-tier ones with shelves inside that are a little smaller than a microwave. On average you can get some amazing food cooked in these if done right, many try to overcook the food and dry it out when it's not even necessary to. When cooking meats, rely on the temperature of the meats you're cooking and not on pre-set times you've gotten accustomed to cook at. I usually pre-spice my meat with a dry-rub and let it set in the fridge for a bit (usually an hour or two) before cooking. The contained heat is also great for getting a rise quickly out of both breads or pizza crust. Once you get used to it you may want to invest in some different size pans that will fit in there that will allow you to cook anything from soups/stews to mac and cheese, lasagna etc. I just picked up one of those cheap accessory kits for mine and it works wonders. I can't understand why it took so long to pick it up considering I've been using my air fryer daily for 5-6 years now. I'm loving your new series on the device. Keep up the good work.
Hi Barry, I just wanted to say my husband and I bought ourselves the Ninja Dual Zone Air Fryer that has 2 baskets and they can cook at the same time at different temperatures and much more. We cook every thing in it even steak, sausages and bacon. We haven't used our oven for over a year now and the only time we cook on the gas stove top is if we're cooking mince, eggs or pasta. We even got a free 3 tear electric steamer when we got the air fryer so our house is all electric now saving us $$$ and our landlord just put solar panels on the roof 6months ago so fingers crossed 🤞🏻 by the end of the year we will have next to no energy bill at all. Saving the planet 😊
I love my Cosori convection oven (my husband calls it my Easy Bake Oven) and I stopped calling it an air fryer. It is so much more than that. I have not used the big metal box in my kitchen (that takes 20 minutes to preheat and an hour at 350 to cook anything) in MONTHS! I have never cooked with convection before I got my Cosori and I LOVE IT!!! The one I purchased is large enough to cook for a family of four. Please keep doing "small convection" videos, it helps us novices immensely!!
Once you use your airfryer more and more you'll find you will LOVE it and will end up using it almost daily. I'm in the middle of moving and the only thing I haven't packed is my Instant Pot and my Airfryer.

I think you are right Shirley, with the girls having different dietary requirements it may come in handy to do their food in them if we need to tweak something
The best way to look at an air fryer is that its a mini convection oven. During the dark times of the last few years my oven died on me and to get a replacement was impossible. For almost a year, I cooked 3 meals a day in the air fryrer, doing everything, from bacon and eggs, to pizza and cakes.
Honestly love these air fryer videos. I use mine constantly.

@@janp1088 Yeah matching cooking time so both drawers finish at the same time is what I meant by "syncing cooking times". I'm not sure I like the non-removable 2 in 1 lid to be honest, but overall it's a great machine.
I appreciate seeing air fryer recipes! Living in an area that gets extremely hot during summer, I'll be glad for any recipes that let me "bake" without heating up the whole house by using the oven.
I think air fryers are great, I cook whole roast chickens in mine, also they make great hotdogs and are better than a microwave for reheating leftover takeaway 👍

Really like how you have a basic air frier, as that's all some people may be able to afford. Been a massive fan for year's, thanks very much!
We are a two person household and we got a 3 litre capacity airfryer from ochama for EUR 20 (GBP 17) last year, a bargain! We use the airfryer minimum three times a week and it works glorious. I won't miss an airfryer again. 😊 My mother has a slightly larger version and she uses it to make pork ribs and they turn out better than in the oven 🤤
One thing I have gotten recently is a portable induction hob. Did have to also get a 'Induction Adapter Plate' as many of my pots and pans didn't work with it but it is cheap. But yeah induction hobs are cheap now so picked one up. Blown away with it. Its better then cooking with gas. It is instant heat and my thing can get things glowing cherry red hot in like 45secs when set to maximum.

I think this is an excellent video. We've been using an air fryer for years and this has given us a lot of inspiration. I would never have considered these recipes until now.
I've had various different brands of air fryers over the last 15+ years, replacing them as necessary. They are not a new fad at all. I am now on my own as my children have all grown and moved out, but I wouldn't be without mine in my kitchen. Apple and blackberry crumbles are absolutely amazing made in the air fryer. A whole roast chicken and roast potatoes are also brilliant when the family is coming for Sunday lunch. But mostly it's great to cook myself my lunch or evening meal in and I don't need to put my big expensive oven on just to cook a chicken breast and a few potato wedges for example. The things you can make in the simple air fryer you have Barry are amazing, have fun exploring.
Ive got the Ninja Foodie...love it. 2 drawers, so smaller cooking area, but for a family of 2..its perfect! You can use them separately or two different dishes at once. Even sync them together if you need both bays for the same dish. And yeah, no preheating. Quickest apple pies ever. Boil up apple on the stove, cool and shred onto frozen pastry, add whatever you want, dump into air fryer...5 minutes later, hot pies. Took me a while to jump on to the bandwagon, but the foodie sold me with the 2 drawers. Brilliant.
Oh I’m loving you investigating the air fryer! Please continue!!!

@@emilysmith2784 You can speed them up in the microwave 1st, after a good stab so they don't explode. I usually just put them in and give them a light coat of oil and salt. if straight in the airfryer I do them at 160 for 40 mins. then on full blast for 20-30 mins until tender. Super crispy skin and cooked through lovely.
There are heaps of accessories for airfryers, such as paper liners, silicone dishes, baking tins, racks. You just have to make sure you buy the correct size accessories for your machine. If you had a rack, you could have cooked two lots of onion rings at once. Airfryer boiled eggs: place eggs in the machine pan, set temp at 113-115and timer for 13-15min. Then immediately plunge eggs in ice water. Perfect every time and no mess to clean!

Love the air fryer stuff so please do more if I’m not in a majority of one - thanks as always Barry
Air Fryer is amazing as a person living alone and cooking for just myself. Much quicker than using the oven. I probably wouldn't rank it above an instant pot if I had to choose one or the other, but its still solid in my kitchen.

My air fryer has three racks you can fit inside, OR you can get crazy and use the rotisserie attachment and make your own rotisserie chicken or kebabs. I love it. Not a fan of the bucket style air fryers. But seriously it's just a small convection oven.
I just made these fajitas today! alltho i switched it out with pork, only red peppers and no cilantro ( the devils lettuce in my mind ) . but oh dear was it good! heck ya! Thanks Barry. Been watchng for years and finally made something! Glad i did! Will definitely make more of it.
I recommend a Cosori brand if they're available in the UK. For someone that cooks for 1 or 2 people, it's wonderful not to have to heat up the whole oven or make a hundred pans dirty. It's quick and the results are always awesome if you don't push it past what it's capable of. It's essentially a mini convection oven. I make parmesan crusted chicken in mine a ton. One of my favorites.
I bought our air fryer thinking I wouldn't use it- turns out it's amazing at cooking chicken dippers etc. very fast for my impatient toddler! We use it 2-3 times daily!
We call scones scones in the USA, also we pronounce it the same way you do. Also you're correct, it's essentially a mini convection oven, so it's just a bit more convenient than using a full sized oven for things.
I would definitely like it, if you did more air fryer videos. These three recipes were very inspiring.
We love our Ninja! We use it everyday and only use our oven on a Sunday for Sunday dinner!

I’ve had my air fryer about 12 months now and cook nearly everything in it. I’ve cooked leg of lamb with baked veggies, vegetarian sausage rolls, steak, chicken, muffins, rissoles, meatloaf, stir fries. I’ve only been disappointed with one meal using the air fryer that was frozen crumbed fish portions. I over cooked them the first time I tried, but haven’t made that mistake again, less time and they are perfect.
Omg for a small family the air fryer is amazing! I use it probably every 2nd day… between the air fryer and toaster over I only use my big oven for storage 🤷♀️

Re-heat some baked potatoes...cook some chips... Anything crumbed..... Then tell me an air fryer won't be around in 10 years! That said........ I do, genuinely, appreciate your channel!
I love my air fryer. I have a convection air fryer dehydrator and toaster all-in-one. I haven't used my oven in three years.
Barry, air fryers are _ancient_ - remember there were big glass pots that had heavy lids with electronics? Those are air fryers too, the same principle and even electronics, but in a different form. Now they hid the coil and its fan in the top of a plastic chassis which accepts a basket.
Thanks for the video Barry, the wife is thinking about getting one. We bought our daughter one for Christmas last year and she really likes it
Everything looks so good. Right on Barry
Scone hack! Make a batch, cut and then freeze, then air fry one at a time as needed 😊
You seemed to enjoy this Barry, a must is air fryer Yorkshire puds. Equal amounts egg flour and milk. I use silicone cake cases to make mine in. Pre heat the oil as normal and about 22 mins. Huge Yorkers.
I have 2 air fryers. I love them both. I use them daily. I will use the oven on my stove occasionally in the winter because it helps keep the kitchen warm. I never use the oven in the summer. One of my air fryers has racks like a larger oven. It bakes, air fries and dehydrates.
More Air fryer meals plz, love all vids of you and Family.
Thank you Barry I needed to see your positivity today
Barry! I havent gotten a airfryer yet but will soon. The reason for that is the fact that i only cook for myself or my girlfriend, i dont need a whole oven (heating it all up, more electricty used etc) to baisically save not just time, but money aswell. I think thats why most people want it, aswell as the "less" oil being needed i guess.
It all looks delicious & thanks Barry 😋🤗
I have made chocolate souffle in mine! Kitchen stays cool during hot humid summer days. For those of us in the USA where convection ovens aren't as common, the air circulation of a air fryer makes cooking a very different experience
My son just air fried a batch of his tuna cakes. They were just as good as the fried in oil version. I don't think air fryers will replace oil frying, but they are a nice alternative.
People said the exact same thing about the microwave oven, decades ago. It is well-suited to the applications that it is well-suited for, just as the air fryer is. Not many kitchen appliances are looking to do all things for all people. Unfair to peg them into that category. And you still own and use a microwave, right?! There you go. 😄
Microwaves with a grill option have a platform to raise a plate closer to the heating element. I am sure you can find such a metallic thingy that fits in the bucket to double the amount of food in the air fryer whilst keeping the air flow.
I have got one of those air fryers. Just me and didn't want to pay a fortune in case I didn't like it but I do, I love it. Use most days and can do 2 things at the same time
I use my air fryer instead of my oven. We never fried anything ever but use my air fryer every day. Chips, burgers, sausages, chicken nuggets. All yummy in the air fryer. I stack it high too 😂
I would love to see an episode with you just ignoring the preheating and just cooking different things from when you power it on, with times and temperatures. That would save even more time. I have experimented and eaten some half cooked and burned foods. Some were successful though.
I have an air fryer cook book and some of the recipes (including boiling an egg) blew my mind
I think it would be an awesome series.
