11:25 with a lack of stabling, there are tricks: -store the last trains of the night in the platforms. These become the first trains of the next morning. -Store trains between Bayswater & Heathmont on the main lines. I think the main reason for 3 car trains was to save in maintenance (which is complicated when rolling stock cannot be circulated, even for some time after) & as a chance to save a dollar in general.

Other reason for 3-carriage trains on this branch line could be limited space at Bayswater for train maintenance. It's the second depot for Xtrapolis but can only handle I think three 6-car sets at a time, which is why Metro can't afford to lose the main Xtrap depot at Epping for more than a few weeks from the network as a whole. If this line is going to be marooned from the rest of the network for months they can maintain a timetable with twice as many 3-car trains as they could if they were limited to 6, and due to the few stations and low patronage this should be adequate for Belgrave to Bayswater.

i live near Baysie Station and walked down today to watch an up train terminate and reverse back into platform 2, It was very well setup this time around with the level crossing removal works ahead it's rare to see in-service trains actually terminate at Baysie It quite a shame they don't terminate normally but realistically doesn't make much sense in normal servicing but I think it would probably do metro a favor to make Ringwood to baysie fully by directional adding extra signals and track at heathmont, also interestingly the pedestrian crossing at Allens Road in Heathmont is being closed for a week and having works done something you don't see very often because it's nowhere near a level crossing or station itself

when capacity is low, frequency is better, i wish more lines operated like this normally, the Stony Point kinda does it

i was on a 3 carriage train on the glen Waverly line in 2007 to 2009 i caught it at Richmond it was a express service to darling then stops all stations to glen Waverly i was helping my girlfriend get home back then the ticket expectors were surprised to see people on a 3 carriage train when they saw me & my girlfriend after darling

"Due to a disruption in normal services between Bayswater and Ringwood , all Bayswater trains will terminate at Bayswater." Um, that is exactly how it's supposed to work.

I believe the Belgrave line has bus replacements till April which is shocking. but I don’t take it so I don’t need to worry. Btw I have like 4 lines near my house, the Pakenham line, the Cranbourne line, the Frankston line and the Belgrave line (but Cranbourne is closest)! Great vid as always and I have a slight personal theory of the trains in future. If the Comeng trains (GOAT trains) are being retired in 2025, does that mean in 2060, all the HCMT’s will be retired? **I am so sorry again that I keep writing big essays, I just have quite a lot to say and I just can’t help it but to share with you my thoughts and questions. Sorry to be a pain again.**

Thanks! Not necessarily. It's possible HCMTs last longer. They won't retire them just because of a specific year or because of a different type of train. All depends on how they doing. Some trains last longer than others

Hey There, I’m loving your videos, as I watch this I’m reminded about a question that often is in my head. I live just near the Pakenham line and purposely leave my windows open to hear the trains. Now my question what is all the sounds as a train accelerates? All 4 of the Metro trains sound different, for sure the HCMT sounds completely different to the X’traps on this video. Also let me know if you have a Patreion or similar so I can put towards your good work.

@@StrayaTrains Yes I did! It was my my first time catching a tait and seeing it in real life! I went with one of my friends and it an amazing experience. Unfortunately my camera ran out of battery so I just took photos on my phone, but I got some really good ones. Also, great video, I’ve decided now to go down to Belgrave to have a look for myself!

@@StrayaTrains I went on an X'trap back on the 24th of December 2023, and while I was returning it was raining pretty hard, and so it was basically a nightmare with all the wheelslip haha.. Great video, btw! My main line/s are Belgrave and Lilydale, so maybe I'll catch one of these 3 car trains soon.
