It's hard to articulate now just how good the Burnout games looked in the early 2000s. It blew my mind that the PS2 could render such detailed and realistic tracks with lots of traffic cars at a fairly steady 60 fps. Think about it this way, the first Burnout game was released closer to Donkey Kong Country on the Super Nintendo (a console that Nintendo was still supporting in 2001) than the last Burnout game was to 2019.

Acclaim at the time and working with Criterion who were a great developer just blew it out of the water, I remember having the same reaction in 2004 when I saw the processing speed, the really did push the Playstation 2 capabilities , then Xbox came along and it was even smoother than the PS2. A classic game at a time when games were evolving fast in the 3D era

@aferran69 PS2 supports 60fps over component cables, and 60 fields per second over the regular composite output.

This ran on Emulator though so on real hardware it won't look nearly this sharp and crisp.

@wobble lunatic Have you ever actually played a Playstation 2 game before? All of the Burnout games on Playstation 2 ran at 60fps in single player and 30fps in split screen. Burnout 2 ran at 480p 60fps and was the first game on Playstation 2 to do so.

Yeah many of the best ps2 racing games still hold up well graphics wise
The main menu theme alone wins my heart. Best Burnout game ever.

I used to love rocking out when you press the burnout button and the music evolves. When I was a kid it used to really make me feel like I was in a movie

Burnout 2 will always be one of my main non-takedown games ever. The cars are so perfect to their own skill and so does the tracks that are in this game. They also have the exclusive paintjobs, crash places that are available only for the Xbox version and so does the custom music. The only time that the game won't let you drive in the circuits is you have to do Offensive Driving 101 before you do anything else. Other than doing lessons, there's also the new mode where you can crash your car and to grab much money as fast as possible. Overall, Burnout 2 will always be my favorite game. ;)

Burnout 2 was great, but Burnout 3 took the series to a whole new level.
That intro song giving me straight goosebumps wow. I put sooo many hours in this game as a kid just messing around lol. I see why now, this game is amazing. I can't believe this game out in 2002 🤯
This game was so ahead of its time. A true classic
I love everything about this game, the tracks, the car list, the soundtrack, my god I love this game's soundtrack so much. It's my favourite Burnout game out there.
Jesus the intro just hit me like crazy man
Such a gold game for 2002.

It’s beautiful
This game is from 2002 and still more fun then every racing game today.
To think the original team before getting picked up by EA was actually on the verge of bankruptcy hard to believe when looking at how much Burnout 2 improved upon its predecessor. For once...thank god EA picked up this team...cause without them doing that I would not have Takedown or Revenge to play on a weekly basis

Good thing the Burnout team left Criterion as the series hit its peak with Burnout Paradise. Better to kill it with a lousy Spin-off than continue shelling decent games with mobile levels of paywalls.

man, the soundtracks, the sfxs, what a blast from the past
I like how we carry combat habits (ramming rival cars) from Takedown onwards back to 2 and 1 as if it'll work. Mechanics that were never conceived in this game, yet we try.

This is my favorite Burnout game
Ah Pass Me By is still my favorite Burnout 2 soundtrack. This game brings back a lot of memories
I had this on GameCube, which looked just like this, and for me the greatest thing was the draw distance. You can see the oncoming cars a mile away!
Still the best game ever made.

The jump in graphics from 2 to 3 was damn good.

It was the most beautiful and graphically advanced game of 2001. To this day the graphics are still acceptable
Just look at those graphics though they're amazing.. I always recalled burnouts having great graphics from memory but it's entirely true... Even back then on CRT tv's they looked magnificent :P
Heck, i played this when i was a kid and never noticed that driving in the wrong lane causes oncoming drivers to flash their lights to warn you
A student driver? It will going be crazy
I’ve had this game since it came out. The same case, cover, manual and disc and it still works. 😄

This was my first ps2 game, also my first console game. I didnt have a memory card at first, so everytime I played the game I had to start all over again and replay the story line to get the hot rod and stock car.
14:50 was always my favourite song and race track ❤
this was the shit back in the day, i remember wating my big bro beast at this game
Here is a link to a full playthrough of this game, if you're interested: kzread.info/head/PLXCnNhhv-7f1n5qj7cjnbPjSA7BAooUBr
So this is where this song came from on burnout paradise.
Indicator lamps for a 2002 title from a bankrupt team is crazy.
nice one of my childhood game
I always loved that music would go rock and roll when you used nitrous :D
Many of this game's cars are added into Burnout Legends for PSP
There was always that one car in the back, that missed the starting point 😂😂😂
Just like Thrill Drive Series.
such a cool game :D
REally cool stuff yeah i played this a lot when i was little BURNOUT 2 :) :D pretty good game! i bet some people grew up not even playing this one but they played burnout 3 instead... have a good dayyyy
Infancia q tengo en ese juego
this game was so badass
OMG the intro is OP
I never play this before But look amazing before 3 takedown
I only ever played the demo as PS2 games were super expensive in Australia. I played the heck out of it, though. Looks like I may need to finally play the full game
It was my childhood, good old time !
You tell me that this is on ps2 ! Waw !
I loved the first 3 burnout games 💓💓💓 back when i was 10 11 and 12. Its hard to see that much time has passed knowing that great games like these will never be a thing again. Soo much memories enjoying them. now we have games like fortnite and its a pile of human feces..... Every game wants you to buy something or sell a bunch of skins, clothing etc. Not the same, play to earn it is my thing.

I want a new burnout game that takes the full advantage of the current-gen consoles, but I also do not want any microtransactions and battle passes. It's sad that this series has been completely abandoned.
This game that still gives me headache... or anyone of you ever unlocked the '97 Eclipse & '01 Focus SVT ?!
Wow that awesome 😎
i remember i use to rage on some of the race of how hard they were but one of my favorite racing games
La autopista panamericana be like.
I miss this game so bad 😭😭😭😭
my fav burnout.
Based on how this looks, I might still prefer burnout revenge. I heard people say this is the best one...or maybe thats burnout 3...
Burnout Revenge, next? :D
I have this game on PS2, sadly it has scratches on the disc and I can no longer play it. By the way, I haven't played this game in years
Better graphics than burnout 3
Now THIS is racing.

Hello, I have audio problems with burnout 2, the car's engine is bad, saturated, is there any solution?
man, in my pcsx2 the car engine sounds really bad with loud buzzing and popping noises especially at higher rpm's, it is getting unbearable the more i play it. How may I fix it?!
@KingLich451
4 жыл бұрын
seems like changing from direct 3d 11 Hardware, to Opengl (what you were using here) made the cars sound muuuch better. Thanks for sharing your settings :D edit: used de-alias filter on sound plugin settings. That did the trick. There are still some very minor pops but, I can live with that.
I play this game in dolphin (x2 native)

Essential Black Friday Sale
How did you unlock all those cars only I was only able to unlock a few of them on the career mode
goat game BO3 was probably the better overall game and better arcade/combat game but to me BO2 had the best and most pure ‘racing in traffic’
The fact you HAD TO play this game a certain way to get medals to unlock content. I didn't like that as a child
Do you use a gamepad or you play with the keyboard?,
Damn! One of the few games I remember enjoying on my PS2 when I was 6 yrs old
Burnout 2 Point Of Impact Playstation 2 is better than Gamecube.
How'd you get the game to look so good in PCSX2?!
@eduardolobos7380
2 жыл бұрын
On original hardware game can also look this good if you have component cable cause run at 480p progressive scan.
I’ve 100% this game 3 times 😁
I came here for the nostalgia, but as soon as I heard that first song, I had to stop the video. I have to buy the game for myself and play it, to get the full and proper nostalgia hit.
By far, the best graphics game of 2000-2001! 10 years ahead of it's time! It almost looks as good as Driver San Francisco. And that came out whole 10 YEARS after this!

Weird how Burnout 2 looks so much better than Burnout 3. They shouldn't have started working with activision. The games were still cool but they lost their unique identity.

EA Games, not Activision. Also Burnout 3 give the franchise they own identity, unlike Burnout 1-2 which ripped off Thrill Drive.
