    CWT (who makes top end PSUs for multiple brands includinf Thermaltake) have better budget PSUs than many mid end things you find in the market. My Thermtake TR2 700 lasted way longer than my Seasonic Platinum 3 for a reason. My Seasonic also took 2 HDDs with it 5 years ago

    NVME ssds support HMB, which lets them use system ram for their cache. You can't use them in an enclosure but if it's in your pc, it's fine.

    @@abhimaanmayadam5713 each transference off die, or to system memory often requires going to the cpu, and induces a latency penalty, as the drive fills up some nvme drives without cache go from 1000mb read speeds down to near hard drive levels of proformance Edit: I just like to err on the side of caution and most of the higher proformance drives are cached drives anyways and can cost the same, I have a list I found from reddit with hard details like, dram cache speed, and total memory streams, iops ect

    @@RadarLeon right ofc, but for peeps on a budget, nvme dramless isnt bad. my current laptop has a wd sn850x and compared to the old pm991a that I had, the difference isnt that much noticable. load times are about the same, they are less (bc my nvme slot is gen3), but not much of a decrease. Again, budget build = some sort of compromise.

    @@RadarLeon 670p is also a QLC drive so it has reduced endurance. Good budget drives now are basically TLC and DRAMless like the WD SN770 (which tbf is a weird drive and is probably closer to a high end drive), or a QLC drive with DRAM like the 670p. It's also PCIE Gen 3 only. If it was a SATA or an external enclosure situation, I would never recommend a dramless ssd, but in a desktop application, its not as much of a downside as you think. My comments have been getting kind of circular but basically DRAM with QLC and DRAMless TLC NVME (Specifically NVME, not SATA) SSDs are about the same. Each has a bit of a tradeoff with latency or durability. You realistically can't go wrong in either situation. Tldr; if you are on a budget, be patient/lucky and find a sale for a good drive (I got a 1 TB WD SN850X for around $60), you will be equally fine getting a DRAM QLC drive or a TLC DRamless drive as long as it is NVME.

  • @RadarLeon

    @RadarLeon

    11 ай бұрын

    @@abhimaanmayadam5713 I understand your comment, regardless of hbm acess using system memory without onboard cache most of these drives become closer to the proformance of a hard drive at 90% or more capacity, unless your purposely refuse to use more than 80% of your drive. That being said drives like the SN850x have been fairly affordable lately and it's a very nice drive. And I believe your main os should always be a cached drive. A secondary ssd being cacheless is fine, proformance today vs a year from now when people start to wonder why their $500-2000 pc is running slow because they wanted to save $5-10 dollars

Of course with the P34A80 with DRAM being only $4-5 more expensive, if you have room in your budget then choose that instead, but please don't give up a better SSD or better quality PSU just because DRAM good HMB bad.

I found an article with charts showing my WD SN570 will load games faster than similarly priced Crucial and Samsung drives however it has lower sustained write speed so it's never recommended by most people. I'm only using it for gaming on a laptop though so sustained write speed isn't important to me. If you or anyone else is willing to answer I'd like to ask a few questions. If only using a M.2 NVME SSD for gaming on a laptop is there any other main factor i should consider? Will dRAM make a difference in gaming?

    Ehhh honestly if you ask me, cooling, case, and power supply are the three areas where it’s good practice to splurge a bit. Non aio coolers can last effectively forever, cases never go bad, and good PSUs have 10 year warranties. Storage will always get cheaper over time, and gpu/cpu/ram are almost all on a 5-6 year upgrade cycle at the longest, and that’s if you’re patient.

    I have been using my PC without a case for over 3 years now and it's amazing. I would never use a case again. I love that my computer has a chance to breathe without a ton of fans having to suck in the air for it. Even my Ryzen 9 5900x is passively cooled with a Notctua NH - D15. No fan needed.

    If under 1200 USD, just maximize on CPU+GPU>motherboard(if OC is needed)>RAM>NVME(makes a difference than SATA)>case fans>case.

    Don't ever get a dram less sad unless it's specifically for a 15 year old grandma email PC. And even then you wanna get a higher than needed capacity to prevent the God awful speeds that occur after time has passed and/or capacity has reached more than 50-75% full.

    0:07 if you use components costing around $20-60 for a 1,299$ pc then that pc is worth like $799

    I'll tell you about a budget part that doesn't suck, the AMD Wraith CPU coolers. Specifically the Spire and the Prism are capable of cooling over 90% of all AMD CPUs and they cost nothing.
