Like how many times do you have a dream where someone does something kinky to you. Where do you think all the nurse, maid, librarian, or teacher fantasies come from?

    I think the most important thing you're forgetting about the Kingsman scene is that like every second they spend the flirting is another thousand people who are being murdered by Jackson's plan and they still proceeded to have this entire exchange. Eggsy's own family is at risk and he doesn't know if they're safe but he still takes time out of this time sensitive mission to establish this deal.

    I hate how the second movie barely addresses the slaughter. The only reason Eggsy's baby sister lived was because he told his mom to lock her in the bathroom. Even then the mom almost kills the baby. How many parents snapped out of it with their children's blood on their hands. Add in almost every world leader dying and you would not have normal for a very long time.

    Everyone seems stuck on the Kingsman scene, but I want to thank you for including that scene from Ghostbusters. I have never liked that scene, it made no sense, and I always fast forward through it when I watch the movie. It makes a little more sense now that I know it was part of a deleted scene, but I question Akroyd's determination to include it. It seems like he was confusing ghosts with the succubus/incubus folklore. Anyway, thanks for clearing that up, somewhat

  • @malcomchase9777

    @malcomchase9777

    Doing the exact same thing is not really parody, though. Men getting some action out of a captured lady seconds after meeting her is literally how the scene goes, so Kingsman didn't really make a joke there. My favorite one is Captain Blood (Erroll Flynn) kissing a princess that can't speak English just to make her shut up. She falls in love with him immediately. And this happens less than 5 minutes after freeing her from pirates. Point is, Kingsman didn't transgress or cross any lines with that scene just because it's butt sex. They still played the scene straight. And it was funny, but Dan is right.

    Trent Carroll might've been a parody had it been a dude offering, or something just a shade off of the usual. Maybe had she offered, then said, "Btw, I have the clap." Or something. Otherwise it's just replaying the same scenario. Like a nod to Bond movies for getting it right. Just my opinion.

  • @David-And-A-Half

    @David-And-A-Half

    It is a parody because of how extreme and blunt it is. Bond does this whole song and dance with inneundo and inappropriately timed 'love scenes'. This tears that down. He meets her, makes a joke about a kiss that immediately esculates. When we finally get to the sex instead of James Bond undressing her to soft music we get straight up ass fucking. Like a good parody when you break it down into basic elements it's doing the same thing, but when you actually watch it it's different.

  • @malcomchase9777

    @malcomchase9777

    +David That's why I brought up a movie from 1935 in my first post. Back then, "James Bond undressing her to soft music" wouln'd be done anywhere near a simple action flick. Nowadays, butt stuff (at least in movies) is not trangressive, because times change. Specially in a movie where they cut a guy in half during the first few minutes. No, the display of sex is on par with the display of gore for this movie. Is it also taking the piss on overblown action scenes? Then why do we get like 10 minutes of Gallahad murdering people? Also a joke? No, not really. It's just that nowadays we do things more extremely than in James Bond's time. Both our killing and our sexing (in movies) is bigger and goes further.

    See, given how much Kingsman parodies and satirizes spy movies and their cliches (whilst also being a decent spy movie itself), I took the last scene to be deliberately making a comment on the "sex as reward" trope? Its going so far with it, princess + buttsex is the one of the rarest "rewards" you could get, but not only does it actually happen- the VERY LAST SHOT is getting ready to show the act itself. They don't even do the "winky face implication they totally did it in the butt guys"- they show us a shot that wouldn't be amiss in a POV porno intro. It plays the trope straight, then goes further with it, then goes EVEN FURTHER. It completely messes with the audience expectations, whilst also calling attention to the weirdness of the trope itself. I kinda love it.

    I think that's the danger of parodying something that is pretty ridiculous already. Viewers can't differentiate your parody from the real thing. I've seen far dumber "sex as reward" examples in films and video games that take themselves seriously. So to really nail it, they should've come up with something even more inexplicable and over-the-top.

    Also, the whole reason people in prison hate Paul Crewe is because he threw games. He was told if he didn't throw the game, Caretaker's murder would be blamed on him. Caretaker dying shows character development in two ways: 1) He is able to show real compassion for someone other than himself 2) He understands that there are things more important than winning. Caretaker's death was completely plot necessary.

    I didn't actually know that. But that aside, I still thought it was an important part of the movie. Not great, but needed. The plot was for the guards to hurt AS's character, and they got the wrong guy. They could have just SAID that it happened, and kept the film visually the same, but I feel like they kind of had to show it so the audience would believe it more. And as an event itself, it closed the second act by galvanizing the team against the guards and showing the lengths the guards will go to.

    That's kind of a lame defense. It's already a bit of a joke in Bond films and this is honestly no different except for the language being just slightly more graphic. If you're going to parody something, it's needs to be over the top to the point that it's showing how stupid the original is. This is really just repeating what the Bond films do with nothing added to make it funnier or to highlight the ridiculousness of the scene.

    Warning: This comment is really long. I also thought that the anal sex scene in Kingsman was weirdly placed. On the one (very remote hand) its interesting for the fact that the woman brought it up instead of being coerced by her rescuer, but that pales in comparison to all the points DOB brought up about the sex-as-reward trope (that only ever seems to work to the guy's benefit, but that's a whole other kettle of fish). From the perspective of context within the film, though, it also doesn't make any sense. It's completely atonal for the character of Eggsy, who went through an intense boot camp with an attractive blonde badass named Roxy and never once did he (or in fact anyone else, including the poncy jerks who washed out) objectify her in anyway or imply she wasn't up to snuff because she was a woman. He is a sweet kid with a rough life who cares about his mother and little sister so much he asked Roxy to call them and make them take precautions to save themselves when the evil plan was enacted and he thought he was going to get gunned down by cronies. And now this same kid discovers a kidnapped princess in a cell in a remote mountain base of an evil maniac and jokes that her release is contingent on her giving him a kiss? No, sorry, that does not sound like the character we have spent all this time with. And the scene when he actually takes her up on her offer? Here's a few other things currently happening: Roxy, who launched herself into the stratosphere by retired tech from the Reagan years and freefalled all the way back to earth, is currently abandoned on the frozen tundra awaiting a pick up from the only two Kingsman who are alive/aware of what happened. His mother and sister and best friends whom we meet earlier in the film do live, but Eggsy has no way of knowing that, since the sim cards were active for several minutes and we see his mother come within seconds of stabbing his little sister to death with a kitchen knife before he defeats the baddie and saves (most of) the world. Also, there's a ton of other people in those other cells, having no clue what just happened, if the world has torn itself to pieces and whether any of their loved ones still exist. Also, Eggsy earlier watched not only just a literal ton of people get their heads blown off, but he is also a newly minted killer and only hours earlier saw his mentor get shot in the head from his mentor's perspective through the Kingsman glasses. Maybe adrenaline could fix any of that and give him a boner, but anal sex requires a lot of prep work and I doubt he would be able to keep that chemical high long enough to get her ready to go before he crashed and probably went into shock. Also on the topic of prep, did he do any? Were there condoms and lube in those cells? Hard to believe there would be. I get its supposed to be an homage to the Bond films that end with Bond shagging some leggy blonde, and this film had already firmly friend-zoned Eggsy and Roxy so he "needed" to bang some other leggy blonde, but since it comes at the very end between two characters who had never met, it feels incredibly forced and awkward (not to mention incredibly dubious, the princess doesn't even get to leave her goddamn cell first) in what is otherwise an awesome, very well-executed movie. So it bothers me. A lot, apparently.

    @kevin willems It's a remake of "The Longest Yard" in which Burt Reynolds played the QB. The guy who murders Caretaker is an arsonist. The warden uses the threat of pinning the murder on Crew to get Crew to throw the game. That's the point of the scene in an otherwise dark comedy.

    Loved Shaun of the dead but I would have said that 28 days later would have reinvigorated the zombie genre. Until 28 days later Zombies were never really threatening being slow, stumbling, and bumbling... Shaun of the dead itself parodies this in many of its scenes.

    I'd say it was more a combination of 28 days later & Resident Evil that resurrected the Zombie genre, as in the same year 2 very different approaches to portraying zombies getting reasonable success showed studios that it's worth the risk.

    The part of kingsman I love is the awkward scene they didn't film, where Merlin has to go and let them out. To ensure privacy, the door and hatch are closed. That door will auto lock. Both can only be opened from outside. With the hatch open he could have reached through to enter the code himself, if he remembered it.

    Kingsmen had a lot of cool details (chic with sword leg prosthetics) but I really was disturbed how the story had Eggs struggle over the command to shoot his puppy dog companion while the girl actually DID shoot hers (fucking selfish bitch) to stay in the Kingsmen (even though there were blanks in the guns)... Eggs didn't go through with it but he actually considered it and pointed his gun at the puppy... the movie was pretty heartless and I didn't give a shit about any of the characters either way.

    An Evolving Ape You're talking about a movie where the whole plot is about joining a secret organization that gives people the license to kill. In some cases, this organization will order its agents to kill former colleagues who've gone rogue. The dogs were meant to be a rough approximation of that internal conflict. If it felt uncomfortable, it's because it was supposed to. That's hardly a fault of the movie.

    In the remake Unger does actually ask Crewe if he could be on the team and Crewe says “No”, but it is more clear in the original. The remake made it seem like Unger thought it was reasonable to kill Crewe for the guards which is weird but Caretaker dying I think over shadows that hit and most importantly keeps the movie in line for a remake IMO

    Yay! More OPCD! And you completely nailed the issue I had with the ending of Kingsman. Yes, it was a joke. Yes, it's parodying how Bond films have a reputation for ending with him getting to have sex with the Bond Woman of the Week. I could see it for what it was the first time I saw it in theatres and yet that scene still felt really out of place. If they wanted to mock the trope rather than just perpetuate it, then I feel like the joke would have landed better if he assumed he was going to get his obligatory congratulatory bang only to be denied in a humorous way. The way they did it just fell flat in terms of humor for me because the "punchline" was too predictable. Still loved the movie, but it did take the wind out of my sails a bit by the time the credits rolled.

    The Chris Rock scene happened because this movie is a remake (starring Burt Reynolds) and the equivalent character was burned alive in the original (in the original, it was a lightbulb rigged to catch fire, which is why in the remake there is a focus on Chris Rock turning on the light before he turns off the radio causing the explosion). The character setting up the explosives almost compares to Ephialtes (the misshapen character) in 300, seeking revenge for a perceived exclusion. Not disagreeing that the scene is bizarre, but it's not totally out of left field.

Ahe has shown herself to be a very strong willed woman because turned down the offer that had her in prison in the first place when many people didn't. A strong woman chose to have sex with an attractive guy and initiate it on her terms. Isn't this the apex of true women's equality?

    A bizarre scene which really annoyed me was in the movie The Judge where Robert Downey Jr made out with a girl at a bar who was possibly his daughter but then turned out to be his nephew because his brother had sex with his old girlfriend. The scene added nothing to the film just cringe and it created a rather awkward subplot which really took away from the movie.

    shadowmasterp much of cracked, if you go to their site, is deconstructing the effects of media on our conceptions of reality. Of course it's just a film, but the media we consume defends and promotes certain ideals. On the simple end, if you've never touched/fired a gun your knowledge of guns will most likely come from movies. The thing is, movies are mostly very bad at guns. Sounds, weight, operation, etc. It's fantasy. BUT we think we "get it" the kings man thing is only slightly more complicated

  • @shadowmasterp

    Most morals of the story don't hold up in real life either. "work hard and you'll get ahead", sure works for about 5% of people the rest just meet people who were already ahead in life and kissed up to them or did something immoral and got away with it. "slow and steady wins the race" not if you in a competitive environment. "the nice guy get the girl" until she get bored or meets someone with a seven figure income. "the nice girl get the guy" until she gets old. life is ugly and full of contradictions the older you get the more you come to realize that.

    As soon as I saw kingmen in the thumbnail I knew it was going to be the butt sex scene. That scene was so weird, all of the stuff about it being problematic aside (although I completely agree with what you said), it just doesn't work in the film. It breaks the pacing and makes no sense. It also sucks because it's literally the very last scene, so this great movie ends with you having a sour taste in your mouth. Also, other people have said this already, but Chris Rock's character in the longest yard died in the original movie that it was based on, and I think probably the original had a little more justification for it.

    I was taking a script writing class when Kingsman came out. The scene goes to the overall theme that it is not the station in life you were born, but your actions which make you Noble. This is supported by scenes such as when Colin Firth's character beats the crap out of the thugs at the pub, which Eggsy later repeated (Manners maketh the man), and the tension between Arthur and Galahad over only nominating people of aristocratic families for the Kingman

    even if it was a parody of bond, James bond almost always got to know the ladies he had sex with and there was always something leading up to it. SOMETHING..this is saying u not only get rewarded with sex by being the good guy, (which isn't why James bind would get laid, he knew how to charm women). In this scene they have the women literally degrating herself (tho she wants it in the movie) it's obviously something overtly sexual that YES should've been left out, and btw its so unrealistic. "if u give me a kiss" he says. "wanna have butt sex" lol...obviously a guy wrote that and didn't even take enough time to give the princess a personality or any reason to want to have butt sex with a total stranger.

    No, but it happened in the original movie The Longest Yard is based on because it's a botched attempt to kill the protagonist but instead kills his buddy. Don't be lazy! Find another movie where the context doesn't make sense.

    Bunny Cop did you forget about ghostbusters? It's on this list because there is no context in the film about it. If you seen the originals, you have your context. Ghostbusters is on this list because a couple scenes got cut out (aka the context) and the scene makes no sense without it.

    also even in the Adam Sandler version it did have an impact. The warden tries to black mail the main character by threatening to pin his death on him.

    Agree wholeheartedly on the Kingsman buttsex scene. I know most people defend it saying, "It's a James Bond reference." but I don't buy that as the entire rest of the movie makes clear (and even says flatout) "This ain't that kind of movie." It was just such an out-of-place scene in an otherwise good film, and if you factor in the ethical problems that Daniel brought up, it makes it even harder to watch.

    kradeiz I had such a hard time with her use of the word "asshole". I'm not offended by that word in the least, but she's supposed to be a princess, right? They tend to have at least a facade of class.

    "It's not that kind of movie". What kind of movie? No, it's not a "Bond-style movie" in the sense it's not a thriller/serious movie. It's a satire/non-serious movie. But! But... But it takes a lot of spy movies tropes and put them in a non-sensical context to make a laugh. The movie is not saying "we do this because James Bond did it". It says "James Bond gets sex in the regular with hot chicks because reasons and because he saves the world, we're taking that trope and stretch it to infinity, now there, enjoy your satire!". Clueless people are clueless.

    „Ethical problems“ And we‘re back in victorian times, when people had to be protected from all this media that perpetuates sinfull behavior and lude conduct. Come on. It‘s a joke about a princess offering anal sex. Of her own free will. Don‘t make this a moral conflict

    Introductions and presentation are everything. I have been testing it for over twenty years. Content and integrity are secondary. Primary is negotiating people's feelings -often behind their back to their face, so that their feelings may be convinced to direct their attention toward your work with an open-mind and a positive disposition. That being said, a joke is quicker and less redundant than a summary of intent.

    Ugh SO true about the Kingsmen scenes. Loved the movie, but that was the dumbest couple of scenes ever. They mentally took you out of the plot and away from the characters, making the movie feel like some horny teenagers fantasy. I can't roll my eyes hard enough. I get that it's supposed to be funny/a bit of a parody. But to me, the "joke" felt really cheap and didn't land as well as some other spy jokes.

    Brandi Nichole yeah totally, like I get the joke and it could've been cute if she'd said something princessy like "it would be an honor" or"..well, I could Knight you?" But they way they did it felt cheap and unrealistic and juvenile.

    I was really surprised when I heard about how (excuse the pun) butthurt people were about that scene. I thought it was kind of funny, more the „laugh out loud because it‘s shocking and unexpected“, and less the „laugh because it‘s cleverly thought out“ kind of joke, but I didn‘t think it was out of place or didn‘t fit the tone. And I REALLY can‘t stand when people talk about this „perpetuating a toxic mindset“ or whatever. I mean, the movie is pretty clever, with how everything used in an action scene is seen or used beforehand, to how the main conflict is an interesting moral concept (the greater good and so on), to the awesome cinematography in the action scenes, but all I hear people discuss is the butt scene. But what did I expect?

    I haven't seen it, but the only way it could work is if it WAS Eggsy's fantasy. Maybe it way over the top there as a hint that the whole thing was his fantasy. Bodyguards with sword legs? Maybe. But saving the world on your birthday and getting to anally bang a princess held prisoner like he was Mario? I am thinking it was all his fantasy and I haven't even seen it. Which if this is the case I expect a retraction from Cracked because that would make it kinda cool. Kinda like how people thought American Psycho was all his dream because the ATM told him to kill a cat. Only that wasn't intentionally done to make the viewers aware it was all just a dream, maybe this was.

    The funny thing about the ghost fellatio scene is that it actually *does* make sense to me. Every time I've worked a stressful job (specifically, one where I sleep in close proximity to a bunch of other guys while still technically *at* work), I've started having _vivid_ but incomprehensible dreams about the job. A few got sexual. But usually it was just yelling at deer trying to cut in line.

    Thank you for addressing such an important topic. As a woman, even now, if I said anything even remotely criticizing scenarios where any woman used sex as a reward I would be attacked unmercifully. Until more real men like you stand up and publicly (AND privately) renounce this inappropriate male behavior that makes women feel pressure in our everyday lives, it will continue.
