3 Bikes in One, AJP PR7

To celebrate the dual feats of completing 10000 kms on the PR7 and hitting 25000 views mark on my KZread channel, I thought I would do a quick roundup of the 3 distinct ways I use my PR7.
I am by no means a typical PR7 owner, I have not set out to build the ultimate rally machine.
My desire was to have a bike that could do just about anything I asked it to and do it well! In my videos I’m attempting to show the broader capability and appeal of this special motorcycle.
I keep an open mind when sourcing equipment, selecting upgrades that are as flexible and durable as the PR7 itself. Which is why many of my choices differ from the norm and will split opinions, but hey! We all have opinions don’t we ;-)
Thanks to
Marc Morales AJP France for sourcing me an agent, the bike and continued advice.
Patrick and Camille @ Central Motos, Périgueux for the warm welcome and reliable service.
Jeremy Adine @ Bergerac Moto Sport for servicing and parts supply
Lomo Watersports for giving me the option of great products at low prices
The ‘Man in Front’, for adventures on the edge, thanks mate!

I bought a new 2022 model in Nov last year. I rode it in Australia a few months ago. I covered 9500kms, with many serious off road tracks. I carried a Giant Loop , a dry bag with tent, sleeping bag, cooking pots, stove etc , weighing about 20 kilos, and a 6 l fuel bladder, so quite a heavy load all up. The suspension worked perfectly over all sorts of terrain, including many technical difficult tracks, gravel roads and sealed roads. No high speed work. The fuel economy is not great and the 17 litre tank doesn't cover the distances required in Australia. I am getting to grips with the Samsung tablet, and I like it. I am just now setting one up on my KTM 890 Adventure.

Fuel economy is much lower off road in low gear work. I have got the claimed mileage on long road trips. I am considering changing the rear sprocket to a 38 tooth, as I feel I have plenty of scope to do that with the 1st gear ratio and it will improve long road section speeds and drop the engine revs. Hopefully it will improve mpg a little too. The PR7 does handle weight well, even with my dropped suspension. Having traveled around Australia as a child, I can understand the need for more miles in the tank :-) I only carry 1.5 ltrs as a local emergency supply, France can have a few gaps between stations too. Also tuck in 3ltrs more if covering distance. Thanks for the info, always good to hear the experience of others ;-)

Thank you! I hope to make the future videos a bit more interesting. Playing around with the Insta360 One RS camera at the moment, its capability is astounding. There is a 4k link in the description of 'Insta360 One RS Part 4', if you would like to see a high resolution example test of what it can do. Ride carefully and thanks again :-)

I have 200 miles on my 2023 US model PR7. It is winter now. Bad time to buy a new bike. The suspension it fantastic. If it is reliable, it will be the perfect motorcycle (for me)

I certainly have no regrets for purchasing my '21 PR7. Reliability is good, just a few things to watch out for.... Keep a check on expansion tank top, make sure it stays tight. Generally check bolts during these early days, particularly the engine guard. I would recommend a couple of well placed cable ties to secure it incase the single bolt works loose. I actually lost mine and unbelievably have no idea when it came of. My riding buddy had the manifold bolts work loose early on, so worth a check. Most importantly, make sure you waterproof all electrical connectors, especially the groups either side of the frame behind the radiators. They are in direct line of the front wheel water through off. Be precise with the rear brake adjustment, there is a fine line between a full pedal and brake binding with the subsequent over heating of pads and disc. If you maintain the bike I am sure it will meet or exceed your expectations. Thanks for the comment, hope you enjoy your new bike ;-)

Mine is the US model. I don't have any emissions bs to mess with, but I do have to jump through a few hoops to make it road legal. The US version is off-road only due to some silly importation rules. That means it is exempt from emissions compliance. The US version comes standard with the Doma exhaust and high performance tune, but is missing the turn indicators and mirrors. In that configuration the engine has loads of power. The low and mid range is very strong. I haven't pushed it hard at high rpm, I'm still breaking it in. I love the suspension and handling off-road. As with my other bikes, I will change the oil much more frequently than the recommended intervals. With the high performance tune and lots of dirt riding, clean oil and filters are important. My main concern with reliability is mostly because of the race tune. I am impressed with the build quality of the chassis, and most of the components seem to be high spec stuff. Many riders of other bikes would pay several hundred dollars for an aftermarket saddle as good as the one that came stock on the PR7. I am pleased with my purchase. I definitely will grease all the electrical connectors, thank you for the suggestion. I am also looking at various options for luggage. None of my kit from my KLR will fit the PR7. Im looking at small to medium capacity rackless setups that are not ridiculously expensive. I think I have my rear bags picked out picked out, but I am looking for a small to medium tank bag that fits the PR7 well.

Good to hear you are pleased with the bike. I change the oil every 2500kms which works well, I don't ride mine too hard though. I have spent several 8hr plus days in the saddle and it is pretty good. While riding with a group of riders last year.. all sporting custom or sheep skin saddle mods, they all started feeling the pain around the same time as I did, so I think it is easily good enough. I can't make any suggestions for a tank bag sorry, I went down the handlebar bag route which was sufficient for my needs. Good luck on your search and enjoy the ride :-)

Hello, thanks for the video on the PR7. Can you elaborate on how you water proofed the electric connectors that are positioned behind the radiators? @@markp87PR7
