Iirc Auto Gimbal has been removed from pilot guns atm. Will be granted to turrets initially and possibly return to pilot guns at the cost of a server blade.

About time these guns got some love. Really wish these had stayed hitscan but this is a close second with that speed. I wish the ION had this type of firing mechanism. Charge the capacitor and shoot 1 huge blast instead of being just a slower repeater. ION should be like a flying tank, similar to the railgun on the idris, just scaled down. I think they could do a bit more VFX on the guns while charging. Maybe that back circle has some vapor effects similar to the mantis. Or like the handheld railgun. Something to make them stand out a bit. 10:50 Curious what the manual gimbal mode lock vector does

4:50 "distortion damage" - they started 3.23 EPTU with 50/50 physical/energy damage, then changed to 100% energy damage previous week. I track changes through Erkul DPScalc - havent seen words about Singe distortion so far.

It seems they are also changing damage output when using gimbal ‘modes’. ‘Lock mode’ has the most dps, when a target is caught (‘boxed up’) automatically in the hud’s center, but it will not remain ‘boxed up’ when another target gets near the center it will change lock to that target. Less dps, when you press the button to ‘target’ it (‘Target’ mode), even less dps when you lock a subtarget (‘precision’ mode) and finally the lowest dps mode will be ‘auto gimbal’ mode. Erkul already reflects these changes and you can check there what the dps penalty is per mode. Roughly when using ‘target’ mode you have double the dps compared to ‘auto gimbal’ mode. Furthermore they have changed (and are changing) projectile speed all across the board and it will be quite hard to use mixed setups. Regarding projectile speeds, size 4 weapons have very good dps, but they will get the lowest projectile speeds. I think this puts, for example, the new Mk2 Hornet at a slight disadvantage again, but balancing was likely needed anyway. Cheers Foxy o7 Edit: changed around the order for Lock and Target mode, but not their descriptions, as I mixed them up. Also added slightly better wording for Lock mode.

Man I got nauseous.. but checked, and thankfully (apologies to you) you're wrong. I was afraid they really went off the deep end. The order is different: LOCK most damage. TARGET next. PRECISION next. AUTO GIMBAL least damage. At least, according to Erkul. EDIT: and I don't really get what TARGET is.. lock is fixed, target??? precision is the subtargeting new mode and auto-gimbal is gimballed. But Target??

@@Godwinsname I mixed up Lock and Target mode naming. Will correct above post if YT will let me. Lock mode is the hud automatically locking the target near the center of the hud in a box. It will lose the lock to whatever is nearest to the center. At least that’s how it appears to be. Target mode is when you press the button to keep the target ‘locked’ in the box and it won’t lose lock if it runs out if the center of the hud. Does that make sense? Cheers o7

@@skullhqx Thank you, but it does not make sense to me. Lock should be the old fixed mode: no gimbals, just fixed weapons. Target.. idk.. I'm assuming you have targeted your opponent anyway. Shouldn't even matter anyway. What you describe with Target sounds to me like auto-targeting mode.

The Banu Defender is one of my main ships. I have been used to putting on new weapons every time. It will be nice to have a 'potentially' viable weapon for once. Thanks for posting! BTW - I've seen the increased damage on Erkul, so was interested to see what it was like...

For the big deal with the gimbals is that for master modes and for cone conversions and cone fire, every mount will be gembled including turent so since they are doing that all gimbals are one to one now. This was in some patch notes weeks back. And this will be going into live

@5:40 "Power to EM is 1.8, Temp to IR is 2". It's power hungry for this weapon. This is a multiplier for EM/IR emissions that depends on other parameters not visible in the screenshot.

8:22 "loose distance in SCM" - I usually fly close to target in NAV at max speed, then switch to SCM in like 3-4km. After switch ship drops speed much faster than it would do using thrusters.

At first I felt these were too cumbersome. But the more I think about it, the more it makes sense. It explains why you'd want a second crew in a Defender. They can effectively focus the weaponry while the pilot focuses on flying. These weapons will be great mounted onto turrets as well. The BMM is going to be a MONSTER when it gets its big ones. I just hope we get the old green trail effects like before.

There is yet S2 "Strife Mass Driver" which have 5km(s) range/speed with decent alpha 525. I wonder if CIG will let it stay as it is. It would be nice sniping cannon. Some nimble ship like m50 could use it for "hit'n'run" warfare.

I hope they will slave one of the hercules turrets to the pilot at least for balance with this change. Maybe the smaller wing turrets would work best.

CIG mentioned a while back that they wanted singe cannons to be powerful, but difficult to use as a reason to have a gunner in the second cockpit. The idea being that the pilot concentrates on evasion and lining up shots which the gunner readies the weapon and focuses on firing at the right moment. It will be interesting to test that and see they've gotten closer to that. Also. since the capacitor charges as fast as the weapon it seems like one could put all power into shields and thrust.

here is why CIG is very likely to do a Ship wipe when 3.23 goes live: - Currently (3.22) the Banu Defender comes with 4xS2 Singes. - You can only get S3 Singes if you buy the Defender after 3.23 - Current owners wont be able to get S3 Singes unless there is a Wipe.

the change on the gimbal is new in 3.23, you can dynamically switch in combat from fixed to gimbal, if you use gimbal your rate of fire will be lower but the aim assist is the same

They removed the n-1 gimbal requirement for the Master Modes combat rework. They've said that all weapons will now be gimballed, except for 'obviously' hard mounted weapons, such as the Ares Ion and Inferno.

6:10 Big Alpha damage is not necessarily good. Yes, when it hits it hits hard, but when you miss you miss all damage. And wtih "fire on overcharge" mechanic it is very easy to miss at short range. Contrary to small Alpha weapons where you hardly miss all shots, more probably at least half will hit. Singe and Mass are more of support sniping weapons, probably may have sinergy with component's targeting on big targets. PS I'd try to use Singe for shooting off components on ships flying in NAV mode.

But the gimble change didnt seems to work for all ships atm. Some ships with a S3 nose turret like the C1 Spirit can mount S3 weapons... Other Ships like the Terrapin also with a S3 nose turret only can mount S2 weapons... Why? Dont know... maybe its not intended but then i want a good reason why it is like this. Change it for all ships... or remove it. But this half and half bs isnt good. Also to activate auto-gimble mode is holding G as default configuration. Thx

As long as i can stick to my fixed weapons I am good. The gimbals feel very unintuitive with k&m and are outright blegh with Hosas. (Personal opinion and all xd)

Limiting the rage to a paltry 1500 meters *and* requiring a charged shot makes no sense. This is a sniping weapon. You can't use those at short range

@@cpt_foxyloxy Balancing became an issue. When they first came in with the new tuning's they had a 5km range with 5km per second velocity which immediately saw them becoming the meta weapon for a patch or two on the PTU before tuning passes. Think less sniper weapon and more of a cannon.

What's the point of gimbal if there is no auto-gimbal? I'm not understanding why anyone would go gimbal and have all those drawbacks to fire rate and weapon spread but still have to manually aim the crosshair like you would with fixed.

So on the Tachyon Cannons, no sir they don't do "very little damage" dps and alpha are two different beasts. You can have a fast repeater do say 400 dps but 50 alpha then, you can have the Tachyon, slow and hard hitting, but the initial damage is a powerful hit, since time between shots doesn't matter for first shot. Slower firing, but harder hitting like 9mm vs 50 cal.

So what the profit having gimbaled weapon? Your fire rate gets slower in gimbal mode and you loose about 30% dps this change even worse than was before between s2 and s3 weapons was not so huge diffrence in dps than its now. Ships like cutlass not loose anything its still will use x4 s3 fixed weapon but ships like Freelancer loose their turets because use it in gimbaled mode and loose 30% nobody will want.

Both the Singe cannons and Ares Ion feel almost impossible to use in this state, due to the lousy shot timing mechanic. Holding the trigger down and praying you can bring the target into the reticle at the precise moment to fire isn't fun, and really doesn't make any sense as a design feature. If they're going to use a charge-up mechanic for these guns, they need to work like a bow, you hold the shot until charged, and fire on release so you can actually time the shots. I would really prefer an alternate uncharged continuous fire mode as an option, maybe switching with the gimbal or stagger switches that already exist, but that would be adding even more unique mechanics to these weapons.

I thought gimbal will shoot slower. So it’s a trade off more accuracy less pure pilot damage.
I hope they will slave one of the hercules turrets to the pilot at least for balance with this change. Maybe the smaller wing turrets would work best.
CIG mentioned a while back that they wanted singe cannons to be powerful, but difficult to use as a reason to have a gunner in the second cockpit. The idea being that the pilot concentrates on evasion and lining up shots which the gunner readies the weapon and focuses on firing at the right moment. It will be interesting to test that and see they've gotten closer to that. Also. since the capacitor charges as fast as the weapon it seems like one could put all power into shields and thrust.

I've noticed that as well, giving full power to weapon don't make much difference

here is why CIG is very likely to do a Ship wipe when 3.23 goes live: - Currently (3.22) the Banu Defender comes with 4xS2 Singes. - You can only get S3 Singes if you buy the Defender after 3.23 - Current owners wont be able to get S3 Singes unless there is a Wipe.
the change on the gimbal is new in 3.23, you can dynamically switch in combat from fixed to gimbal, if you use gimbal your rate of fire will be lower but the aim assist is the same

to fire the weapon you hold down the button and does it fire automatically once it's charged or does it fire when you let go of the trigger? Thanks.

You just need to hold down the trigger and maintain aim on the enemy, once charged, it will fire automatically

3.23 - yeah, gimbals changed. Basically all weapons are gimballed now

It was included in my game package
They removed the n-1 gimbal requirement for the Master Modes combat rework. They've said that all weapons will now be gimballed, except for 'obviously' hard mounted weapons, such as the Ares Ion and Inferno.
I just dont like how short range all weapons are. I hope they will make weapon range much much greater as they discussed sometime last year.

You have to set a keybind for it, (not sure what the default is), but you can find it under Keybindings > vehicle - weapons, scroll down a bit

Why not compare the singe cannons to the laser cannons? Not sure I understand the comparison with repeaters.
Well for once in Tachyon is said to be an Lightspeed Matter.
What do I think? I think that was a lot of contradictory statements. Other than that, the changes to gun size doesn't matter, they'll just rebalance everything so it takes a specific amount of time to kill.
Looks like they need to have a charge up and hold fire function... By the time you get charged, you might not be nose on.

6:10 Big Alpha damage is not necessarily good. Yes, when it hits it hits hard, but when you miss you miss all damage. And wtih "fire on overcharge" mechanic it is very easy to miss at short range. Contrary to small Alpha weapons where you hardly miss all shots, more probably at least half will hit. Singe and Mass are more of support sniping weapons, probably may have sinergy with component's targeting on big targets. PS I'd try to use Singe for shooting off components on ships flying in NAV mode.

But the gimble change didnt seems to work for all ships atm. Some ships with a S3 nose turret like the C1 Spirit can mount S3 weapons... Other Ships like the Terrapin also with a S3 nose turret only can mount S2 weapons... Why? Dont know... maybe its not intended but then i want a good reason why it is like this. Change it for all ships... or remove it. But this half and half bs isnt good. Also to activate auto-gimble mode is holding G as default configuration. Thx
As long as i can stick to my fixed weapons I am good. The gimbals feel very unintuitive with k&m and are outright blegh with Hosas. (Personal opinion and all xd)
Are you running Vulkan or DirectX?

Currently DirectX with highest graphic setting, haven't tired Vulkan yet, heard there are still some problems, but will be testing that when it gets more stable
Glad they are changing up wep specs cuz clones with diff skins sucked, hopefully they change back the components the same like they used to be as well
Limiting the rage to a paltry 1500 meters *and* requiring a charged shot makes no sense. This is a sniping weapon. You can't use those at short range

That's exactly my thinking. Charging with high alpha, it should behave like a long range sniper.

@@cpt_foxyloxy Balancing became an issue. When they first came in with the new tuning's they had a 5km range with 5km per second velocity which immediately saw them becoming the meta weapon for a patch or two on the PTU before tuning passes. Think less sniper weapon and more of a cannon.
The gimbal change is new to 3.23
...try Ion, I think it has same mechanics as Tachyon Cannon
These changes are quite old, we know this for weeks. There are a lot of changes comming with 3.23 . There are also a lot discussiona at spectrum, espacially regarding the Mass Drivers an Singes.
They said they'd change that. Now you get a penalty for using the gimbal on fire rate
What's the point of gimbal if there is no auto-gimbal? I'm not understanding why anyone would go gimbal and have all those drawbacks to fire rate and weapon spread but still have to manually aim the crosshair like you would with fixed.

So on the Tachyon Cannons, no sir they don't do "very little damage" dps and alpha are two different beasts. You can have a fast repeater do say 400 dps but 50 alpha then, you can have the Tachyon, slow and hard hitting, but the initial damage is a powerful hit, since time between shots doesn't matter for first shot. Slower firing, but harder hitting like 9mm vs 50 cal.

yes indeed, I said they do very little damage was the singe-2 before the change, right now, the singe-3 is indeed like the 50cal, just wish the range could be longer.

@@cpt_foxyloxy That's one thing they need to address. For example, Area series size 7's should by all means have a much longer distance with more damage right now they are right at a size 5 even listed as a 7.
The change to gimballs is 3.23.
The removal of auto gimbal to pilot guns in 3.23 is so annoying :/ Really hope they remove that change.

So what the profit having gimbaled weapon? Your fire rate gets slower in gimbal mode and you loose about 30% dps this change even worse than was before between s2 and s3 weapons was not so huge diffrence in dps than its now. Ships like cutlass not loose anything its still will use x4 s3 fixed weapon but ships like Freelancer loose their turets because use it in gimbaled mode and loose 30% nobody will want.
Both the Singe cannons and Ares Ion feel almost impossible to use in this state, due to the lousy shot timing mechanic. Holding the trigger down and praying you can bring the target into the reticle at the precise moment to fire isn't fun, and really doesn't make any sense as a design feature. If they're going to use a charge-up mechanic for these guns, they need to work like a bow, you hold the shot until charged, and fire on release so you can actually time the shots. I would really prefer an alternate uncharged continuous fire mode as an option, maybe switching with the gimbal or stagger switches that already exist, but that would be adding even more unique mechanics to these weapons.
I mean you didn't aim very well, it doesn't need assist
Again, Singe are the worst weapons now, DPS got nerfed to hell, and the press and wait for shot release is really bad.
the ranges are awful with the balance pass. worst dps in the game by far and its not even close. and they also have half the range of anything else. not even remotely worth using. dumb nerf
