This was quite possibly one of the saddest rounds I’ve ever done. As you guys clearly hear in the video, Elyas gets a 1.53 Average which should be the new club record (IcR) average throughout NZ, beating 1.58 from Jasper. But due to some unfortunate timer stop issues on Solve 4, unfortunately it was disqualified. Elyas was clearly the better solver than me that round, and totally deserved this record. I feel really bad for everything that happened at this competition.
Initially I wasn’t even meant to compete, but due to me being free for a bit last minute, I ended up doing only 2x2 and 3x3 with zero practice, and not having touched a Rubik’s Cube since 8 days. As you guys can see, I was in my formal shirt because I had some important work to finish in the morning and had guests over that evening.
In a way it was nice to see I can get decent averages without practice, but it feels so undeserved to have the North Island Record in such a bad way.
Hopefully Elyas can beat this average soon so I don’t have to have the guilt of having an undeserving record caused by just some bad luck for him 🙃
Other than that, the average was pretty okay. Really happy with solve 2 but every other solve had some major issue at the very least. I didn’t predict AUF on Solves 3, 4 and 5 and mispredicted it for Solve 1. Also a bit annoyed I didn’t see the 7 mover on Solve 4 but I’m glad I clutched up on Solve 5 to get a good average, considering it was a pretty bad no-bar.
As of 29 February 2024, this average ranks me:
1st in Auckland
1st in New Zealand's North Island
2nd in the InterClub Rankings (the whole country)
Hopefully I can get more 1.6 and maybe even 1.5 averages officially soon! And eventually, break the 1.41 :)
