2x Broken SEGA MEGA DRIVE (Genesis) CLONES - Can I FIX Them???

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Here we have 2 portable Sega Mega Drive (Genesis) handheld gaming devices. One is my own and the other was purchased faulty from eBay. Can they both be fixed?
Merch is here!!!!! www.puddlt.com/my-mate-vince

Remember that this is just for entertainment and I am not an expert in these repairs. The processes in the video may not be the best way, the correct way or the safest way to fix these things. I do love fault finding and trying to fix broken things, so I hope that comes across in this 'Trying to FIX' series. Many thanks, Vince.

Very nice Vince, I enjoy your content. Just a suggestion, flux is your friend. A dab of flux will make your life easier and solder joints cleaner. The low melt alloy has no flux in it, and flux is mandatory for it to work properly.

My tip for low melt solder would be the Mechanic XW5 which has Bismuth in it to reduce the melting point It's melting point might be slightly higher than the chipquick, but it's still very low (140°C or less). You get a 40g roll for about 12€, which is like 1/5th of the price of ChipQuick.

you should try low melt solder paste instead of these expensive low melt sodler wire, it is soooo nice to use. for example you like to solder a multi pin cpu chip like on used in a master system just pull a line of solder past over all contacts, melt it with 180°C hot air only and it will suck right on to the pads with the perfect amount of solder it is sooooo much easyier to use. also available as higher melt not only low melt version. i do not use anything else anymore.

I'm guessing liquid spill. Sometimes you can get away with a wash, sometimes you need to RnR the part to wash under it, ala L Rossmann, so as to remove the slight continuity of the liquid residue between parts.

The Sega Genesis Ultimate Portable Game Player could have been a decent handheld if: -The menu graphics were stylized with Sega flair -Every ROM was playable with the option to switch between regions -SRAM and save states were supported -An extra speaker was built in for stereo output -A better rechargable battery was installed -A lanyard with a Sega logo was included * Sigh * Neto Bootloader and battery mods can only go so far. Is there anyone on the net who has actually managed to fix/update the Firecore emulator itself?

The at@ames megadrive/genesis machines are not worth the plastic they're made of =/ Now, their ATARI handheld, that is a decent machine. Even includes all the difficulty switches and BW/Color. Oh, wow, Altered Beast sounds horrible but that's AtGames' fault, not yours. Usually when people are demonstrating the poor music emulation on AtGames consoles, they either use Streets of Rage 2 or Sonic the Hedgehog. This is the first time I've heard Altered Beast's music twisted through the AtGames wringer and, yeah, it sounds way off even taking into account that I'm only hearing an audio recording of a tiny speaker. And that's a pity because I otherwise really like the design and the screen (well, I'd prefer the one with six buttons, but the North American version of the Sega Genesis Mini had the three button problem as well when the fighting games on it were designed for six buttons but at least you can buy a 6-button controller for the Mini).
