Similar concept to the French Caesar. And since they used standard NATO rounds, I’m guessing they were planning on this for export sale. Too bad they only built 1 before the war started. But at least it got to make orc chunk seagull food on snake island

@@shuaige3360 The Bohdana is a prototype inspired from the Caesar and use 155mm Nato rounds, but much simpler concept, first built in 2018, but need many years to made it usable, the first shooting campain for tuning from the fire control who is pretty complicted to made (based on a Siemens calculator) was made during the first months of 2022, and look like it's now operative...

@@leneanderthalien Thanks for the information, a pity that when the war started Ukraine did not already have 100-200 of these. But the more I read about this war, the more I am thinking that Russia attacked now because Ukrainian army was progressing fast and they knew that if they did not attack now, would be much harder later to invade.

I wouldn't go so far as to say it was recaptured, but it sure has been denied to the Russians, which is what is most important.

It was recaptured, they raised the Ukrainian flag on the island about 4-5 hours ago. It obviously doesn't have the garrison with the same equipment they had on it but Ukrainian personnel are back on the island.

@Ben Dover that’s my point. The propaganda from Ukraine is too good. Without real support this war will finish Ukraine. They need hundreds of billions. Personally I think the Donbas region supports Russia. In 2014 this region did not agree with the elected government being overthrown. The government of Ukraine walked a dangerous path. Joining NATO when 30-40% of your nation is ethnic Russia was going to cause problems.

@@robdee81 This prototype howitzer use a 58 caliber barell (~9m Long), in comparision the Caesar use a 52 caliber barell (~8m), the 70km range was achieved with rocket assisted rounds, but the Caesar did still reach 70km range with the new Katana Rounds made by Nexter (France)

The Caesar did still flex ad jump, but no problem the chassis is made to hold this on: the cause is the lightweight from the system, only 18 tons (with ammo) for the Ceasar to made it transportable with a simple C130...

@Rob Whitney • Last I heard, Ukraine only has 4 HIMARS currently deployed in Ukraine and another 4 will arrive after the crews complete their training. However, other countries are also sending HIMARS (I think Canada is one) or sending their nations equivalent. Also, the reports I heard was that Ukraine would need over 50, not just 30.

Like the Caesar, the normal use is to fire 6 rounds and leave the position to avoid counterbattery fire, but this need a perfect reconnaissance and coordination between the command center and the mobile artillery unit, and a perfect tune from the shooting calculator who is the most difficult to reach to give a high precision like with the Caesar. But in this case, placed close the Romanian border, they took their time to correct the shot thanks to the reconnaissance Bayraktar TB2

Actually they used the CEASAR and HIMARS to take it back. These heavy trucks didn't get close enough. But together with the CEASAR and HIMARS they will take Cherson back.

Back in the day we as spectators could stand quite close to Top fuel dragsters taking off, you could feel the ground shake and your body would vibrate from the Shockwaves generated by their engine's exhausts, I expect it would be something like that for this guns firer.

We didn’t build more than one howitzer because we couldn’t buy 155mm shells then, but now who knows, maybe they are being made quietly. But our production capacity is clearly limited because of this, the purchases of the same Polish crabs are going on. If our government was more decisive, and did not rely on what would definitely work (gradual begging for NATO howitzers :) ), but would start the production of our howitzers with all the ways to protect production from missile attacks, then a thousand howitzers would decide the outcome of the war, considering how much metal is needed and our cheaper labor force than in Western countries, the financial investment would be offset, but I think the government will not go for it and this is sad

The Russians left the island but the Ukrainians have not gone back to the island to reestablish anything that would protect Odessa. Actually at this point in time Odessa is worthless to either side because the Ukrainians mined the port. That is why no ships are entering it to pick up the grain.

I sincerely doubt the bohdana was used the plant that made it has little to no prior experience building howitzers and also the howitzer lacks an auto loader or even a semi autoloader. So i wouldunt say its a good piece of kit. This vehicle was not even a prototype but a technology demonstrator so i doubt it is even comparable to the caesar or even compared to something like a suzana

Ukraine is a name given by Poland meaning outer lands. The land of the RUS before the Mongolian invasion was very large. The name RUS is a Norse name which means men that row; there are no men that row in Moskva. So Moskva adopted the name Russia while being a Mongolian vassal, essentially traitor to the RUS; and all the Czars were Mongolian-Finnish. The Culture of the Mongolian was centralized power, and that cultural imprint was passed on to present day Russia. Ukraine’s real name should be Kievian RUS, or Kievskarus! Russia began in Moskva by Batu Kahn and Novgorod conquered much later, still no connection to the Rus. Putin & Lavrov should be ashamed of themselves, the USSR was an occupation; it never had the status of a sovereign state and due process of law that would be associated with a free society. Even today the mentality of the gulag exists. There is no freedom of press and speech, people are arrested for speech, there is no due process of law, and the religion is state run making it a totalitarian theocracy. As such, it did not deserve to exist in a free world; and history has shown such totalitarian organizations fail over time and author in many gulags. The true culture of Russia is Finno-Ugric and Mongolian, having nothing to do with the RUS (Kievian), expect borrowed as in the sense of Hellenized or Anglicized "forms" as a comparative reference. The centralized form of Russian politics is a very Mongolian imprint on culture. The actions of Putin seem to be another Mongolian invasion of Kiev; here I suggest as to the correct metaphor. I believe so. Putin & Lavrov insistence to have purview over eastern Europe also seems like paying tribute to the Mongolian Horde. Moskva started as an agglomeration of Finnish tribes, combining a Finnish name meaning cows water and developed by Mongolian culture. Mosk means cow and Va means water. The RUS are men that row, Vikings, Norse, established Kiev 400 years before (750 AD) Moskva even thought to exist. The name Russia for current nation is totally inappropriate. The current Russia started in Moskva; how misleading is the name Russia coming from Moskva that has no connection to the RUS. All the lands should be returned to Kiev; the West of Russia to Finland, and the East to Mongolia. Russia’s place on the globe appears as a temporary aberration in my view. To use threats of Nukes publicly strikes at the heart as adolescent behaviour; surely any nation or person that issues such threats and being an ally to such while not even having war imposed on them is not fit to rule. This would include allies of Russia. Oh yes, I remember, Russia didn't invent the bomb, they stole it in the 1940's and gave it to Kurchatov. Russia struggles with an identity crisis since its beginnings unoriginal to the ethnic groups. Its errors are numerous, 50 million killed by Stalin in WW2, allied to the Nazis to kill the Poles for their defeat in WW2, Holodomor where millions of Ukrainians were killed and grain stolen, and constant antagonist with Europe. We even have the Holy Mother announcing Russia’s errors at Fatima. Russia is a Mongolian culture and all the first Czars were Mongolian and Batu Kahn is the author. Oskold was the grandson of Ragnar the king of Sweden, his name is old Norse and spoke old Norse, the name Rus is old Norse, he settled peacefully in Kiev and the Slavs made him king, he brought Christianity to Kiev with his son dir...his burial mound is where St Nicholas church is built, Oleg wasn’t even in Novgorod when this happened, and Oleg is not a Rus nor old Norse name. The Slavs called Oskold the name Askold. After came Dir, Oleg was a pagan who assassinated Dir, Oskold becomes the first dynasty...later when the line of kings get to Vladimir, he is captured at a trading post by the Mongols, the post is called Moskva, and the king killed. Moskva as a city was a Mongolian invention, and Novgorod becomes a part of that Russia by conquest, although having nothing to do with the Rus. Oskold line is Ragnar, ironside, Oskold from the King of Sweden Ragnar. Oleg is via Rurik coming much later. The accounts of Oskold are within the time, Al Mamun an Arab writer of the time wrote of Oskold, the Russian chronicles come hundreds of years later. In much the same way accounts of relevant history are better understood by those of the times, much like the Bible, dating to the original times makes the account authentic. The Russian chronicles are merely a tale and inaccurate. Kiev was a city over 1000 years before Russia even existed. Kiev was Kievian Rus before Novgorod and when Oleg arrived. Putin is kidding himself if he thinks any part of Ukraine belongs to Russia. We can see that Israel belongs to the Jews, similarly all the lands around Kiev of Kievian Rus belong to Kiev as a single nation and city state. Russia's beginnings are a wanting child begun as a captive insurgency having nothing of its own; a captive state that was reeking in servitude to Mongolia and invented by Mongolia. The entire culture of Russia from Moscow is Mongolian centralized power, a pagan culture of no empathy and Christianity. The Christianity is tainted as a state religion or theocracy and politicized. History is often obscured by being written by the ones in charge. The history of Ukraine has been obscured by the Soviet Occupation and cultural appropriations. Moscow in an attempt to appropriate a history not its own, rewrote the narrative of history to cover up its compromised origins; Kiev and Ukraine is a history much older and more civilized; making contributions to civilization. Russian despotism becomes the blueprint, foundation & model for every despot nation, look at its allies; the error of its ways has spread throughout the globe; much like the message from the Holy Mother at Fatima. Those that are sympathetic to Russian atrocities can find similarities in their own histories. Ukraine has a democracy at a local level Moscow never had and fears. Russian boundless ignorance is a type often found in the poorest of nations, and usually the poorest have a history of the hardest tyrants over them that also inflict poverty, physical and spiritual, on others they attempt to subjugate, a reflection of their own lives, an abomination of desolation. Askold was in Constantinople in 860 and Oleg arrived in Novgorod not until 862. The Arabs referred to Askold as the Slavic King or King of the Slavs which he had been for a while. Pontius says Askold brings Christianity to Kiev from Constantinople and a bishop. Ragnar the Norse King of Sweden was born in 767 AD, his son Bjorn ironside was born in 796 AD, and grandson Oskold (Askold) was born in 820 AD. Askold arrived in Kiev in 840 and had a son Dir, Both become King and the first Christian dynasty. Askold dies and gets a burial mound in a park in Kiev. Dir follows as King. Dir is assassinated by Oleg who is a pagan. Nobody knows who Rurik is or who the father is . Oleg is a generation away from Askold. Olga of Kiev builds a church on Askold’ s burial grounds. Pontius of Constantinople says Askold brings a Bishop and Christianity to Kiev. Russia much later is a Mongolian invention...

Ukrainians historically called themselves “Русини” and spoke the “РУСЬКИЙ” language, which has nothing to do with the Russian language, but with the word “РУСЬ”; or the Rus’, the term Russian itself was invented by Peter the Great who himself was a Tatar who descended from the Christianized Crimean Tatar family the Naryshkins on his mothers side. The “Russians” then known as Muscovites barely spoke a Slavic language at all aside from Old Church Slavonic and it wasn’t until the 1500s and 1600s that a distinct dialect even developed. The Zaporozhian Cossacks (Who also identified themselves as RUSYN) wrote about how they couldn’t understand the language of the Muscovites, because these Muscovites, especially the lower class commoners, spoke various Finno-Ugric languages and not a Slavic one. The Ethnogenesis of these “Russians” continued until about the mid 1800s, when the well known Russian lexicographer Vladimir Dal’ wrote in a letter about the various Finno Ugric peoples of central and northern Russian getting Russified, and I quote “Чудскія племена у нам все русеютъ т сливаются въ одинъ, великорускій народъ”. This translates to the Chude (a Slavic term for various Finno Ugric peoples) are getting Russified and are liquifying (literally) into one, Velikorusskiy (Great Russian, an early term used to describe the Muscovite ethnos) people. In fact, Dal’ talked about the Russification of Finno Ugric peoples many times, like in his letter to the Russian Historian of Ukrainian Cossack origin Mykhailo Maksymovych where he mentioned the Russification of the Karels in the Tver Governorate, of the Chuvash and Mordva in the Nizhnegorod, Penza, and Simbirsk Governorates, and about similar things happening to other “Peoples” in Perm, and Vyatka Governorates, while also calling out the Russian Slavophile Pogodin. In Dal’s dictionaries for the Russian language, the words “Ruseyut” (literally Russified) and “Slivayutsa” (literally Liquifying into, being spilled into, used in this context to refer to a people abandoning their culture and SPILLING or LIQUIFYING into the Muscovite ethnicity) are mentioned. Even the modern Russian language, which has been standardized reformed and slavicized to the point where there are almost no dialectal differences by region, is still full of Turkisms in the form of vocabulary and pronunciation, as well as occasionally sentence structure. Saying Russians are the forebears of the Rus’ is like saying the Romanians are the true Romans.”

Today 10% of britains are rus; there is no rus in russia, more mongolian. in russia 1 woman dies every hour of domestics violence. although they are a large nation geographically, they are small in population and have an economy less than texas. the problem with russia has to do with origins. whereas as ukraine had christain influences back to byzantium, greece, and europe, and also the slavs are peoples that originated along the dnieper, makes ukraine an indigenous peoples with christain roots. the slavs moved west, and south, and later north. Meanwhile to the north were finno ugric, and then mongolian. Mposckva at the time of the invasion was a trading post, nothing there. And what became moskva was a purely mongolian invention. Moskva to become russia was a mongolian creation. At the invasion, kiev was destroyed, but moskva created; slavs were still in the kiev area. in less than 100 years kiev was liberated by Lithuania; but Moskva was under mongolian influence until peter the great, over 500 years. during kievian rus, ukraine was the name used, its not a new name. much like we refer to the united states as america, kiev and its lands were refered to as ukraine. ukraine and the slavs are the indegenous peoples along the dneiper. 20,000 rus arriving in kiev does make kiev rus or moskva even less. the story presented by russia is purely apocryphal; the dates conflict with historical events. Olga built 2 churches for huskydr or oskold or askold and dir, none for oleg. askold and dir were buried where churches built, no recoed of oleg honored. oskld was in ukraine 1 generation before the tal of oleg's arrival in novgorod. novgoros and rostov were conquered lands, not indigeous to the mongolian rus, who were not rus, another deception.

Looks like it works well, im sure their plenty of kraz units laying about now, just wip the gigant 152mm off and glue them crapy akward m777 on them, wont be seem as much as being flogged a dead horse when future payments have to be made..

Unfortunately, we have few 152 shells and it is difficult to implement in engineering terms, to do this quickly we need to change the body. And all the surviving factories that could do this are being repaired with armored Krazs and armored personnel carriers. But this idea is already being used for cannons 57mm automatic cannon 70 rds / min for territorial defense forces. We have a lot of shells of these calibers.

@@Leo-yr5jb good idea, them corn flowers could be stuck on lighter truck bodies or maybe pickups, just less accuracy due to rock, but then cut the trails in half turn them 45 degrees and bodge a sliding mechanism for gradients so they can lock in place on the ground, havnt seen many of this mortar though from both sides compared to last time. Why is that, if find one and it survives this, id love to buy one for my house museum,lol decommisioned of coarse...

Recapture? Or driving the Russians off the Island with sustained artillery? There are no new reports of Ukrainian military actually landing on the Island which affords little protection due to its volcanic landscape. There is also a debunked photo of the Ukrainian flag being raised as it has been proven to be old, pre-conflict footage of the Island. So please clarify.

Agree 100% but Ukraine/Zelensky/The U.S. secret team (which planned, supported the 2014 coup 100%) need ANY "victory" even if it's only a symbolic one. They are fearful of the European, U.K., U.S., etc., people learning the truth about their designs on Ukraine for the last decade plus. Even the Pope chastised the West for "poking the Russian Bear". The West doesn't care about the Ukrainian people and I hope one day they'll be able to throw off their neonazi oppressors. Zelensky outlawing ALL opposition parties is all one needs to know. Fortunately, the internet, despite the widespread censorship (by the western democracies!!!!), will always allow for the truth to find its way to the global consciousness. The only way is to disgest content from a multiple number of diverse platforms to arrive at one's perception of the truth. As the western mainstream media has purposely been slowly consolidated and monopolized by 5 politically aligned megacorps (which own 90 - 95% of ALL MSM), their daily "talking points" are issued early each morning. Slowly the people of the World are seeing this "fake news" for what it is. Some, though, still watch CNN, the BBC, etc.. Done. Ukraine drove a speedboat over, checked for survivors, and hoisted a Ukrainian flag a few days ago. Then they left because - as the original Ukrainian defenders realized after a fit of bravado - occupying the island is basically suicide. It's a tiny exposed island with no cover and very little fortification. Russia can't reasonably occupy it without also holding the coast, and Ukraine can't reasonably occupy it without long range anti-ship missiles and air defenses capable of stopping drone and cruise missile strikes. It is kind of amazing how much kit the Russians wasted there.

Russia can take back Snake Island whenever they want, after they have taken Odessa.

NATO could set up production of Ukraine weapons in a NATO country. Cheaper to have Ukrainians making their own weapons, and there are plenty of Ukrainians outside of Ukraine who can take part in their manufacture. This serves two purposes. 1 Makes Ukrainians outside of Ukraine a active part of the war effort. 2 Creates weapons that can be exported after the war which creates manufacturing jobs. Ukraine could even make more of these............

I'm too lazy to rewrite, I'll copy my message from my other post, the reasons for this whole story: We didn’t build more than one howitzer because we couldn’t buy 155mm shells then, but now who knows, maybe they are being made quietly. But our production capacity is clearly limited because of this, the purchases of the same Polish crabs are going on. If our government was more decisive, and did not rely on what would definitely work (gradual begging for NATO howitzers :)), but would start the production of our howitzers with all the ways to protect production from missile attacks, then a thousand howitzers would decide the outcome of the war, considering how much metal is needed and our cheaper labor force than in Western countries, the financial investment would be offset, but I think the government will not go for it and this is sad

but at the end, this island is useless for both sides.

Ukraine didn't retake the island, they haven't placed troops on it and they said themselves they won't. It is a no mans land now as it offers little protection to the defenders from artillery and air attacks. As of right now no one currently holds the island.

Serpent Island is the territory of Ukraine, it was temporarily occupied, now it is liberated, it has always belonged to Ukraine, like Crimea, Donbass, Lugansk and TD. Is it really so difficult to understand, you do not need to seize your own territory with your troops, you just remove strangers.

costs only for Snake island: Russia 1billion (1000 000 000$) material losses and many soldiers, Ukraine, a few million, zero soldiers losses, some small Bayraktar trown missiles, some aircraft bombs (SU27 during first bombings) , 4 Neptune missiles (on 2 ships) and 2 Harpoons (1 ship), 1 Bayraktar shot down (not confirmed) and some 155mm shells...
