2nd Gen Federal Electric Type B -- 8/5/23 -- Alert -- Guernsey, IA

Ғылым және технология

For the first Saturday of August, I headed down to the tiny town of Guernsey to film this Type B in action for the Keller-Wierson Siren System test. In late 2022, the Poweshiek County EMA upgraded their siren system with the help of Missouri-based Table Rock Alerting Systems amid the 2020 derecho, and as part of the upgrade, TRAS put this Type B back into service with the predominantly Sentry siren system. Prior to late 2022, this siren has been standing there doing nothing, despite having a refurbished motor from what I've heard. I attempted to film this siren in May, but the test somehow got cancelled. Since the weather was good on the first Saturday of August, I felt it was the best day to head to Guernsey for the siren test. It is not as loud, as evidenced by the fact that you can hear the Sentry in the background despite only being less than 75 ft. away from it, but it was still cool to hear this dinosaur roar to life.

Sounds wonderful! Nice 10-porter! Seems like a lot of 2nd gens are 10 port for some reason.

0:14 I thought that sounded like the Sentry in the background for a second.

It surprises me Federal became successful when their first siren was this piece of garbage. These 1st and 2nd gen were obsolete from the moment they hit the market, easily outclassed by Denver and Sterling sirens. It's one cool looking and sounding machine though 👍

@@iasirensandmore3868 indeed they did. The original double headed fedelcodes were the most efficient designs they have ever made to this day

it helps that their second and third sirens were widely popular those being the model A and model 2
