2hp Snare (mini drum voice, wide range of tones)

Музыка

Here's the mini (in size not sound) drum voice the SNARE from 2hp. Capable of almost making kicks sound, rimshots, percussion, cowbells and cymbals it's a wide ranging snare module that goes from classic vintage electronic snares to more modern and cutting sound design with snappy noise and softer tones too.

    This is a super impressive little module. I was considering getting the drum machine lunchbox, and I think just this snare convinced me before listening to the other 2 modules 😂

    Wow those raw tones at the beginning actually sound like fairly passable kicks and rim/wooden perc type sounds. Impressive!

    Yeah the last patch I try to make a full drum beat (kick, snare, hat, click/rimshot) by using the one Snare module and modulating it under sequences.

    Except they're mostly digital..and those tiny knobs..and build quality..and if you only buy 2 hp modules, you will run out of power connectors way before you run out of space in a normal sized case. And per hp, they're actually quite expensive. Don't get me wrong, I've thought about buying some myself..but the idea of populating a whole case of micro sized modules sounds bonkers to me.

    Absolutely a small case with lots of sub 4HP modules in wouldn't be nice to use. But a larger case (or multiple cases) with several PICO units and 2hp units in can really add some power to the case which is always nice.

    Maaan you keep making me wanting to spend my money :D This sounds good. I've been trying to come up with an alternative to the DrumBrute's snare, because I find that to be the only sound that I can't tune for the life of me so it sounds satisfying. Based on this video this is already better. Would you have an opinion on comparing the two? Thank you. Cheers, Ttils

    Both my 2hp kick and snare do not have immediate response to decay cv. That's to say, If I send a velocity value to the decay from a sequencer It does not affect until the next step. Is this just the case with these modules?

    Can this thing plug in directly into speakers or a desk mixer? Or would I need a VCA or a Mixer Module tied to this too?

  • @DivKid

    @DivKid

    Hello, you'd need a powered Eurorack case to put the module in. Then something to generate a trigger to excite the module to make a sound. Once that's set the output can go anywhere you like really. Eurorack levels are "hotter" i.e. larger in voltage that line level and other gear. So it may distort the input of other gear. That said most gear has the headroom to take it and you can plug it into a mixer or sound card. This is just a snare sound though so straight to a speaker would be a strange/specialist use case. There's also no volume control. So I don't recommend going straight into speakers. Hope that helps.

    At @4:00 or so, it sounds like the overall volume of the 2hp output is dropping on those rolls... what is causing that? Is the change in volume being caused by the CV modulation on the "decay" parameter? Or is the trigger input velocity sensitive in some way?

  • @DivKid

    @DivKid

    combination of the modulation all together as perceived level changes with length/decay/pitch etc.

    Hi HiFi, this is just a snare any other sounds are just there to set a musical context. The final patch is all from the Snare though, that's happening through sequencing the parameters to move between settings that more closely resemble other drum sounds.
