2D massage chair mechanisms move only in two dimensions: up/down and side-to-side. 3D massage chairs move in three dimensions: up/down, side-to-side, and in/out. This allows the chairs to provide deeper or lighter massage based on the massage program and the user's preferences. 4D massage mechanisms can change the speed of the roller's motion to more closely mimic the movements of a human massage therapist.
