The fact that you guys have talked about even if someone checks a gun and racks the slide or charging handle in front of you and then proceeds to hand it to you and you yourself checks it actually reminded me that its the exact same thing that I do to my younger brother even though i trust him with my life than most of my family has really opened my eyes that not only my brother but myself at some point has had the knowledge and taught gun safety by someone else properly and grew up knowing what we always thought was common knowledge but opened my eyes to the realization that not everyone grew up that way and somehow unlocked some long lost core memory of mine and i really appreciate that and the fact that you guys are talking about all of this and trying to get people to acknowledge that no matter what, the safety around firearms lies with you and the knowledge of the user/owner of the firearm. Thank you for all that you guys do and the knowledge you put out there!

My mother left her career to raise me and my siblings and I am eternally grateful to have a parent around all the time. She started a day care business from home so she could still bring in some money into the house. You have options, be there for your kids it’s so important.

I’ve always tried to tell people that human being weren’t meant to live in cities stacked on top of each other like bugs surrounded by concrete asphalt, metal, plastic, noise, etc. with zero privacy.Crime rates in cities are what you get when you force that way of life on people and remove them from enjoying the beauty and peace you get when experiencing nature right outside your door anytime you want. It blows my mind hearing city kids see a deer or a pine cone for the first time and not know what the hell it is.

Mrgunsandgear changes the 4 rules of gun safety to "know the status of guns at all times" rather than "treat all guns as if they are loaded". I like this because it forces everyone to instead of immediately assuming a gun is loaded to immediately checking the gun to ensure it's loaded for carry or unloaded when out of service.

IQ isn't going to be downstream of education. That is to say, you can't teach someone and increase their IQ. The average IQ is going to be downstream of nutrition and other environmental factors. For example, the more lead you have in your drinking water, the lower your average IQ is going to be. So average IQ being correlated with gun crime might give us an idea of where to look to improve the crime. The same things causing worse nutrition and more environmental hazards may be the driving factors for a lot of crime.

Agreed but from what I've read the lead cases are pretty rare. And their explanation that it's "affluence" or poverty is discounted when comparing poverty stricken areas. I think the best explanation is from Thomas Sowell...it's culture. US inner city gang culture, where most gun crime happens, is standardized across the nation because it's subsidized by the government through welfare programs. Diet isn't important there, and IQ raised a few points per generation won't help toxic cultural beliefs. Edit- IQ doesn't correlate to morality, if that makes more sense.

So, service guarantees citizenship, and something given has no value? The main issue I have with mandatory service or taxation in lieu of service is if a person doesn't support the governments choice to go to war or support a proxy war. If you were only ever used in the defense of your country then that would be ok, but then the government starts the old "In order to better defend your country you must raze someone else's country on behalf of this other country we are friends with, also unrelated look at all this free stuff we have now." I am trying to be less owned by the government, not more owned by them.

Check out Robert Heinlein's Starship Troopers. It poses an interesting question- should everyone have a say over how society is governed if they've sacrificed nothing for that society? Participation in voting and government requires service although it's not required or penalized if you don't. National identity is promoted through shared hardship in service and politicians are less apt to push for military intervention because they were all soldiers once. Not sure if it would work but I see the rationale.

Switzerland is neurtral and hasn't been envolved in war for over 200 years. Our Militia is only for selfdefense. We don't export arms or ammo to countries at war. So no proxy wars neither.

Our founders based the 2nd amendment on the English common law right to bear arms for self defense AND the Swiss Constitution right to bear arms as a militia so States could fend off a Federal Army

What do you mean. You can be armed in your home. How else would you defend your home? We are talking about leaving a loaded firearm out irresponsibly

Not having a firearm laying out with children around is different than disarming. Having it holstered and in your controll 100% of the time is much different than leaving it on the table or stuffed somewhere.
