Freezing cold temperatures and very heavy frost keep up busy trying to survive in this harsh environment despite the potential life threatening hazards. Off grid Winter camping in a canvas tent requires teamwork as well as cold weather survival training and SAS survival skills. Bushcraft cooking and bushcraft camping is always challenging when living off-grid in the wilderness. Maintenance and upkeep on our equipment is a priority to keep the winter camp running smoothly. Surviving in frigid cold temperatures down to -40°C is completely doable as long as you follow these basic tips on how to set up a hot tent for winter camping with an internal frame. This method will work with Hot tents, Wall tents, Canvas tents, Outfitter tents or prospector tents. Join us for our winter camping adventures in a hot tent AKA Wall tent, Canvas tent with wood stove, Outfitter tent or a prospector tent. Follow me for bushcraft and survival skill and outdoor cast iron cooking.Check out this in-depth look at my clothing system that I use for cold weather camping. If you have ever wondered how to dress for winter activities this video may be helpful for you. Understanding how to layer your clothing for cold weather will make the difference between an enjoyable time vs an uncomfortable time.

As a South African that was a decent-looking potjie. I know it may be difficult but the meat should have been flowered first, brown it remove it then put the onions that would have thickened the sauce as well. This is the second video I have watched and was cool to see the pot lol.

I am from South Africa A few tips using the cast iron pot (potjie). Brown meat and onions, then reduce the heat so that it barely boils. The idea is to cook very slowly. Once you add vegetables, don't stir until 10 minutes before the end. I add my rice straight into the pot and it cooks perfectly in the pot with everything else. Don't use to much liquid A little corn flour at the end to thicken the sauce. Main secret is slow cooking on very gentle heat. Otherwise the food can turn to mush

@justdynee The camp is exceptional, really good setup. It's all great to see, I love that kind'a stuff, the next best thing to actually being out there; it is kind'a an escape even just enjoying watching these videos. ...but what's it all worth if you can't share that with the woman of your dreams who is so full of life, smiles, and just a really bright happy spirit. It's the best of both worlds and I don't see many other videos with such a great tag team ;) Everything is really cool and well done about the adventures the host is sharing, take it with a bit of humor. Happy winter angels and happy couples enjoying and sharing the outdoors,... all really great things!

I would definitely try this type of camping. I have cooked quite a few things camping, since I did a lot as a Boy Scout. I think for winter camping I would do either spit roasting something over a fire, or a tomato and ravioli/tortellini soup.

Bring along a firearm or two if you're spit roasting in the middle of the woods, in the middle of the winter, when food supplies are down for wildlife. The majority of animal attacks in the wild don't get reported. Most likely you'll just get curiosities, have fun, but be very careful. My friends and I have had to hop on sleds and ATVs to run out to go help Flatlanders who are trying to brave the wild, we respect your sense of adventure, but please do it carefully. Those of us who live off the beaten path are your 911.

Great video. Pronunciation. Is poy(like toy) key ( like for a lock) koss ( like the Americans say hoss for a horse). Poy-key-koss. Then you will sound exactly like a South African. That pot is also wonderful for making bread as well as Pap (pronounced pup), which is a starch stiff maize meal. When you hungry, it makes you happy. You will have to look up chakalaka sauce. That’s its own rabbit hole. You made me happy, thank you.

Enjoyed your video. Fancy cooking to. I use to hike in the Adirondack Mountains at -40° below zero. Our food was restricted to what we could carry. When I saw you scoop out the food from the pot the lattle had holes in it. I'm sure the broth was excellent to. The camera didn't show you putting any of it on your plate. Forget splitting wood into tiny pieces. Soak a big chunk in Firestarter and toss a match on it. Save your energy.

How about one day or such, making an extra small tent just for your stash of fire wood, keeping it dry from the elements possibly happening over night while sleeping or even during the day, making 2 stack, old stash 1 side, new stash other, having the new stash dry out as long as possible

Very beautiful place! One thing with these videos that everybody who has spent any time in the north will know, you can't fake cold weather, you hear it from the footsteps in the snow.

A magnetic automatic closing door would be great to keep the heat in the tent

I got to try this I have an extra magnet door strip. I thought we lost it and just found it with the Christmas decorations. I hate zipping and unzipping every time I go in and out of the hot tent.

You may want to try using the Dutch Oven on the tent wood stove, bet those legs would fit in the top opening. Saves making two fires and running in and out. I'm ready for some lamb stew for breakfast, swear I can smell it.

It seems like a cast iron stove would radiate way more heat so you burn way less wood. But I’ve never lived in a tent.

Looks great, and I especially like that Dutch oven. I’ve never seen green beans, garlic and zucchini in stew. I’m not sure she really likes it. I’ve always stuck with taters, onions, carrots, ranch packet and sometimes stewed tomato’s.

You cook like me exactly, but keep the skins of vegetables; all vitamins are in the skin For example; iodine in the skin of carrots… Use brown rice or whole grain rice than white “dead” rice…
