Lots of good information in this discussion. However, it is not exactly correct to say the 60 or 65 indicates how tall the tire is. It is the ratio of the width of the tire to the height (not the diameter but the distance from the rim to the surface of the tire). In the late 60’s and the 70’s it was a big thing to have 70 series tires on your Camaro or Firebird, and they were consider very sporty “low profile tires”.

What a great and informative video--and exactly what I want to accomplish with my new (or at least new to me with 8000k) 2021 Ram 2500 Longhorn with rear air suspension. Man--it is so nice and Gucci with that brown leather interior! Anyway--one thing you didn't address either in the video or questions & answer was rubbing with the taller and more narrow tire. I am looking at two brands in the same (LT295/65R20) size versus the stock Firestone LT285/60R20. Can't decide between the BFG K02 All-Terrains or the Nitto Ridge Grapplers. Both look really nice and sit just above 35 inches in diameter and 11.7ish in width over the stock 33.5 inch Firestones. The BFGs will definitely rub at full lock on the front inner sway bar on both sides but both reviewers said it is not a big issue. No rubbing on the front or rear against the plastic wheel well covers they say. Do your new Nitto Ridge Grapplers in that size have any rubbing issues at all? Please let me know the details as this will make a huge difference in which brand I select. I have 35-inch Nitto Trail Grappler mud terrains on my 2003 Jeep Rubicon and love those so I am inclined to go with the Nittos provided they do not rub at all. Let me know! Looking forward to hearing from you. Thanks--David "Tipper" Gore (Retired--USAF Pilot)

Nice video. Wider tires actually do worse in snow than narrower tires. Not sure how much of a difference it would make from an 11.5 to a 12.5 but nonetheless narrow is better for snow. Also wheel width will determine height too. So those tires you bought are approved for 8.5-10.5 wide wheels. Well they will be taller and skinnier on an 8.5 wheel than they will be on a 10.5 wheel. The wider wheel “widens” out the contact area of the tire and so that makes it a little less tall.

It also bypassed the tpms low pressure light so I now run 45 psi in the fronts and 28 psi in the rears with no warning lights.

FYI powerwagon wheels are 17’s and BEFORE you go down in wheel size make sure you are able go down in wheel size. Sometimes your stock wheel size is required for your truck do to things like brakes size or other requirements depending on how your truck is equipped from the factory. Sometimes you can run smaller aftermarket wheels as they can be more customizable to clear things that are in the way. I know with my 1 ton on my rock crawler everyone wanted to run 15’s when 17’s are required but there are companies that figured out how to get 15’s to fit by running different backspacing and trim more material off the wheel. Note: if you are going to tow with your truck make sure you buy wheels that can handle the weight of your truck when loaded down. Safely is number 1 before anything else. When towing it is even more critical as you don’t want to cause a wheel to fail to overloading it or cause a accident because you thought it would be cool to run a smaller wheel or a wheel you like but did not fit your application on how you are using the truck. Try not to put your life and other motorists life’s at risk just because you want your truck or car to look better. I am not saying this to scare you but I am saying this as some don’t realize one thing can effect everything if you try to cut corners. I have seen first hand what happens to wheels / tires if over there weight rating. You also put your trailer at risk if it happens when you are towing. If you can safely run smaller wheels and get the correct weight rating for your loaded down weight on your application then you will be fine.

Coming from actual measurements not the web… Also, measure your tires fellas, 35s are 90% of the time actually 34 or even 33 1/2” tall. I’m sure a lot of people know this but there’s a lot of misconceptions out there. The new GM heavy duty trucks come with 34” tires stock if you have the 20” wheels (275/65r20).
