There is nothing wrong in working smart not hard. Combine the two and you have a smart professional. Also many of these are "tricks" that you come up with when you are actually doing things, not just "showing up at work for 40 years in a row". Edit: Ok... Nearing the end there are some really unnecessary things :D

3:50 you have a claw on your hammer, you don't need pliers to bend the nail. You could also pull the nail. 4:50 there'sno need to plunge the screw into the bar of soap, just run the threads across an edge.5:00 youdon't need a depth Guage when drilling for an anchor in sheet rock that's thinner than your anchor is long. 5:50 your screwdriver already has a place for using a wrench, it's underneath the nut you needlessly used. 8:26 you're joking, right? All that work for a tiny pair of scissors that won't cut anything because they aren't heat treated which will never happen because they're made from a paper clip instead of quality steel.

I see a lot of these hacks that seem like they take longer than their added value. Hell if I put all my wrenches on a carabiner and hooked it to my pants they’d fall off 😂 I’ve seen so many tricks about hanging pictures too. Some of them look neat until you try them. Here’s the best tip I have for the younger crowd. Toothpaste. When leaving an apartment and you get all your pictures down - fill the holes with toothpaste.

4:05 Alternate Hack... Drilling through wood... Use a smaller bit (half the size, even smaller...) right through... Correct size bit. Drill half way through, flip, drill through from the other side... Result.. a clean hole from both sides... Side hack... Want to drill to a specific depth... wrap masking tape round the drill at the desired depth (Don't forget to re-check the tape as it can move. Side hack 2... Hitting the surface with the drill chuck and making a mess??? Drill the hole through 2 washers.. When the chuck jaws hit the 1st washer it spins it on the face of the 2nd and the 2nd should stay still on the work face so not damage it. I've even hammered nails into wood through a plate with a tapered hole so if I misalign the hammer with the last hits, no hammer smack into the wood... and the tapered hole stops the nail head from trapping the plate (Ok learned that the hard way... ooo and obviously hole at the bottom of the taper needs to be at least 1-2mm bigger than the nail head or hilarity ensues...) cheap modification to this... if no plate available... an old bit of ply... you can just nail it to the surface then rip it away.. can leave bits of ply under the nail tho. I even considered making a flat surface punch... Lump of metal. Hole about 8mm through. Make a punch in the lather at least 30mm dia stepped to 7.5mm. push punch through hole in metal, file down the 7mm end till flush. Use... Hit nail until its close to the wood, (closer than the depth of the hole in the lump of metal....) Now put the metal over the nail, through the hole, and use the punch until it hits the metal... chamfering the edge of the punch helps.. as with the metal so hitting it near the edge doesn't smack a long crease into the work. I usually just smack things with a hammer till there's a couple of nice hammer head circles in the surface and b done with it.... Or use a posi drive screw.

Also, at 6:33, wouldn't it be nice if there was some sort of tool (a bit, if you will) that you could put in a drill to make round holes in things? Maybe available in various sizes as well? Someone should patent that.

A lot of today's kids were raised by parents who didn't take control of their own lives... and these kids want to learn how to do the things they should have been taught from the beginning. Videos like this are great for getting them thinking about different ways to tackle situations. And say what you will, the ones who are seeking this kind of thing out are doing so because they want to learn and grow. I'll take someone like that over someone who was taught "right," but never bothers to grow. As I once told my students, I can teach them the science and the math; I can't teach them intellectual curiosity.

Shaving cream makes a crap hole filler. The Vaseline trick works for spray paint, not brushed. Cardboard is a good one. Why hob a nail over? Marking the spot with toothpaste marks the wrong spot. (about half an inch too high.) TP rolls are ok, but velcro takes up less room. Paper for layout is great, while you are at it, mark the paper with where the hangers need to be. Decent caulk trick, not necessary with smooth surfaces. Not sure about the saran wrap on the paint can. I may try it, but a proper paint tool works fine. Vacuum is good, if you have the extra hand. Dividing a board is good. Tape is handy if you have trouble with finding the end. Magnet is good, hadn't thought of that one. Wrench extension should be on the other prong, it won't slide off. Again, Why hob a nail over? Use the right length nail. Using a backer is great. Using a coin in a pinch is OK, better to use the right wrench. Better is to tap the end of the screwdriver into the board for a starting hole. Same here, screw does not need lubrication. Marking the depth with tape is great, I do it all of the time. Not sure how well this would really work. you would get better results pounding it in backwards with a hammer. Use a countersink or forestner bit. Elastic band trick does not work. Why put a larger threaded nut over a hex that was designed for a wrench to apply torque? Would work, but other options are more efficient. Would work. Seems like a waste of space, you couldn't lay the outlet strip down again. Use Velcro ties or a TP tube. Wood vice jaws are OK. Very difficult to use with a hammer. Other better options. Good idea, there are easier implementations that are better at getting ALL of the dust. I cannot see this as a tool hack. That would be a HUGE bottle cap. And why bother for a 50 cent box cutter? Works, but makes a HUGE mess and now you have paint infused water to dispose of properly. Board is a good idea. Why is she wearing bunker gear? Old shoes, might work. Doesn't stay on well. Trust me. Magnet is better, this wouldn't hold as you ran out of screws. I don't know what was on these tools. but plain vinegar would have been better than a soft drink. It "can" work. Waste of space, make a tool box with similar holes. Never leave chisels loose like this. These won't stay on well anyway. Somewhat useful, but only for a couple of wrenches. Easier to cut one from a single board, more compact as well. Use the proper chisel. That bun mesh won't protect your hand. This DOES work well. Final Score: Useful: 15 Wasteful/redundant: 18 Doesn't work at all/bad idea: 8

If you're going to leave a saw blade sticking out into a walkway, or store wood chisels in an open box along with screwdrivers, etc, - you probably shouldn't be allowed to play with sharp objects. And if you think the ideal solution isn't hanging the saw vertically next to a wall or toolboard but putting a length of pipe insulation over it, or of cutting up a glove to cover the business end of a chisel rather than storing chisels in a place that WON'T bugger up the tips and risk cuts, then you DEFINITELY shouldn't be allowed to play with sharp objects. I'm sure that anyone who disagrees will write their replies with a crayon.

2:30 BETTER HACK!!!!... Get a nail, punch holes in the bottom of the slot the lit sits in (You know, where all the paint sits and glues the lid on.... I usually just put in a set close together in one place, say 1/8 of the circumference, then use THAT area to wipe the brush.... Result... The paint flows back through the holes into the can, you wipe the rest with the brush and wipe off the brush... (rinse repeat.. figuratively, don't rinse the brush till done). You can even sit the far side of the can on a strip of wood, old ruler etc, and help the paint in the channel flow through the holes instead of run round the lip. When done, clean the brush and run the brush round the channel into the holes (I take it you're cleaning what ever is in the can with something that doesn't hurt if a little makes it into the content (ie water with acrylic paint etc.) Now when you close the lit... there's no paint to glue it shut.. and little secret... the lid seals on BOTH sides of the channel, so the holes are sealed from the atmosphere, so they don't actually compromise the contents.

I thought a lot of ideas were great! This is for those of us who, unlike the critics, do not already know everything.

3:38 Ladies, if you ever walk into the garage and you see your man with wrenches in this position (particularly when working on a vehicle), back away slowly and close the door quietly. One of two things is about to happen, most times the worse option happens.

If you don't wanna actually cut anything yeah their great paper clip metal is soft enough to be bent by a child you if think that something that some will hold an edge you need to go back to school and take a corse on molecular structure of metal makes about as much sense as making knife outta piece of aluminum foil

A pair of child's safety scissors is 10x sharper than the paper clip scissors and they still can't cut and their made from proper metal

My first treehouse built out of disassembled fences didn't even have those. We may have gotten the wood free but at least we bought the right nails.

First: tool hacks for people who have no idea how to use the tools. Second: you spent all that money to buy things to make things when you could have spent a tenth of the amount just buying the damn thing.
