29 HOURS to travel Frankfurt to Glasgow: The priority was money over time, but was it worth it?
What would you pay to travel between Frankfurt and Scotland? A one-way fare to Edinburgh with Lufthansa was £373. They also offered a one-way fare to Glasgow for £579. I did it for £58, but it wasn't overly comfortable. It was a memorable adventure, which makes it priceless. Join me on this 29 hour journey from Frankfurt to Glasgow. #FRANKFURT HAHN #FLIBCO #RYANAIR

It's so damn refreshing to see a real video showing real cost-saving options and experiences for real folk - instead of all those channels proclaiming "look at narcissistic 'me me me' reviewing first/business class" shite.

Totally agree with you. It's one of the reasons I'm subscribed. I'm wondering whether my flight Valencia to Belfast tomorrow in a middle seat with Ryanair will also have a vacant window seat. 😂😂
Brilliant video! So much better than the channels that just carp about shortcomings in Business class. Keep going. The number of subscribers will grow!

@@janetmackinnon3411 I agree! My channel has a following of -let's say- folk mainly like me, not the youngest or most tech savvy in many cases. I sometimes feel a bit daft making a point of saying 'Subscribe FREE!" but to many subscribing to anything usually involves a monthy fee. I have even said 'click' to watch the video if I have put a link on visitscotland or whatever.
If you're on a tight budget, it's best to leave arriving at Frankfurt Airport until later - the food prices there are exorbitant. The cheapest flights of national carriers from FFM to the UK are usually via KLM. If you travel out to Hahn, there's also a costly coach ticket to get you there, and Hahn is really run down these days. Sometimes it's easier to get a coach to Cologne airport and fly to Manchester, where you can catch an onward coach or train. If you're really adventurous, catch a coach/train up to Düsseldorf and fly from there. BTW: Many years ago, FFM airport had a cinema, so you could take in a movie to kill time.

Very true about Frankfurt airport cinema . 1988 ish saw Jaws 4 there with Michael Caine in English. Lived in and around Frankfurt with a few other Brits , mid '80s , saw quite a few films in English . Frankfurt had a large American forces presence then , presume they catered for them .
Always nice to see a young man enjoying his work!!
As ever, you have my admiration pal, rotten journeys like that are usually cos you need to go somewhere for an important reason, not for KZread content! Your channel reinforces my view that if you can afford it, pay the extra money for a comfortable journey with adequate rest and the minimum of hanging around public transport hubs. In general they tend to be unpleasant places. I travel from Leeds to London a lot (Tottenham fan), I always book in advance (so much cheaper) so a 1st class ticket can be cheaper than an 'on the day' standard fare. Complimentary food and drink, first class lounge at Kings Cross... lovely!😁
I haven’t flown with Ryanair for 12 years. I don’t ever plan to again except as a last resort
Apart from saving a lot of money this journey certainly provides some adventure. The worst part for me would be the hours and hours sitting around waiting for next leg of the journey. Plus I'd happily pay extra to avoid Ryan-pirates-Air. Well done Scott for calling their bluff - twice! I presume there wasn't a cheaper flight to e.g. London and a train back to Scotland.
Glad you made it. Great video.
Imagine enduring a journey like that and realising you've arrived in a dump like Glasgow.
Hugely wry and entertaining as ever Scott
Loved this video. Absolutely captures the experience of budget travel !
I'm writing to the King to suggest he give you a gong! Your journeys seem to tackle the limits of human endurance! I would be dead or at the very least end up like a worn-out dish-rag. As a consolation to you, I enjoy your quirky videos. Many thanks.
Franfurt ish -Hahn Airport has recently been bought by Swift Conjoy who aim to deliver "concept upgrade and turnaround of distressed or under-performing assets across Europe." I think Scotts journey comes under this remit.
Brilliant video once again, always look forward to your uploads!
great video scott. Enjoyed it as always.
Yep a long way home but well worth it for your subscribers and loved the lights of Glasgow. Look forward to your travels on here/

I am right now on a 30 hour Odesa to London journey. First leg is a 16 hour Ukraine Railways Odesa to Przemysl, Poland, then in the morning, Polrail to Rzsezow, then Ryanair to Stansted, NatEx to Stratford and Elizabeth Line home. I am currently just a few miles from Moldova. Probably could see it if it wasn't dark. Odesa is further from London, than New Zealand, by quite a margin. I pity anyone riding this train stock on the TransSiberian...

Nice one. Scott keep. Them. Coming 👍👍👍😊
That was entertaining. I don't know why you gripe on about Ryanair seating policy! They offer a middle seat for free. You opt for a free seat that will be a middle seat. Their booking system obviously is programmed not to put passengers who pay for seats next to freeloaders! Sounds a win-win to me... The marketing is excellent. Persuade people to pay for a better seat. Your solution exploits the flaw in the system, saves money and you get a window seat anyway. Of course not everyone wants a window seat. Some just don't like to see how high up they are. Also the widow seat usually has limited leg room due to the curvature of the aircraft body. And a window seat means disturbing two other passengers when you want to go to the loo.
Nice one Scott Love your videos 👍👍👍
Well, that was a long way round for a short cut! Well done for figuring it all out and lasting the course. (Subscriber)
Next time you have so much time at DUB, there is a pub about 5mins walk from terminal 2 that serves excellent food and of course a great pint. It’s keelys, a gastro pub. Leave the terminal and walk to the right, towards the Radisson Blu hotel, pass the hotel and the pub is in front of you.
Great video again👍🏻
It's bonkers you had to go to that effort to get home, but you saved a heck of a lot of money. Great channel btw - been a subscriber for some time now.
Superb
I have never been on a plane and I probably never will, but I like these informative video's a lot. Seeing this one I am more convinced that my way of travelling during daytimes (train, ferry and a connecting bus/tram/metro) is the best choice for me. Most times it is certainly not the cheapest way to get at my destination, I know that, but I like it.
Love your videos. Mid 80's lived in Frankfurt, used to take tram , mainline train and bus to my workplace. Everything ran bang on time

Another interesting video! I stayed in the Dublin T1 Lounge a few weeks ago and I had a good visit (though I didn't have to pay) but that Burger King in DUB can be quite bad experience wise. Love to see you do an easyJet flight in the future, loved watching the German travels!

I sympathize with the Frankfurt Hahn stuff. Have had to deal with that joke of an airport several times. I've now resolved that I'll only use it on the departure or return alone of a trip, and treat myself to regular Frankfurt for the other leg.
Cracking video

Highly enjoyable but painful !- my company tried to save money once by sending me from Manchester to Gatwick to wait all day for a flight to the Channel Islands- I lost the will to live after four hours walking around the building site that was the terminal !

The long layovers are the killers! Easily 10 hours at Istanbul.
Once had to travel from Aberdeen to Esbjerg via Glasgow Heathrow Gatwick Frankfurt Billund... Took nearly 24hrs when the direct flight is under an hour.
I grew up near Frankfurt, but I`ve never been to Hahn. Applied for a job there, years ago, but got rejected. Maybe not so bad after all ;) Like following your trips!
Hi , how are you ? Very useful video and really enjoy .
Great video(s), Scott. I once got a flight(s) from Vancouver to Glasgow for around £300, with what I thought were stops in Calgary and Nova Scotia. After buying the ticket I noticed it was layovers, it took me three/four days to get to Glasgow in all. I would not recommend 24 hours - midnight to midnight- in Calgary Airport, it's nice enough but not for 24 hours. Least I got to wander around Nova Scotia.
Your videos are quite amazing and informative. I am from India and will be moving to Belfast soon. Then I have plans of touring Europe. Your videos will be handy. I am a subscriber btw.

Plan a week ahead and you could have got a flight from Dusseldorf to Newcastle for as little as 60 Euros, Metro into Newcastle Central station and straight up the East Coast Mainline to Scotland.
I enjoyed that. To call Ryanair pirates is an under statement. Pay the bare minimum and roll the dice I say, and you got a good result in the end.

Problem is everyone follows suit. If you book Easyjet and don't pay for speedy boarding it means there's only one desk for you and that one is only available as long as there are 0 speedy boarding people waiting. Even if Speedys have other desks dedicated to them. So after Ryanair now EasyJet became another non-starter.
🍁You are more adventurous than me Scott! That was brutal i could not have done it. I would have paid more money and gone from A to B. 🤦♀️🤣🤣
Hello~ I will subscribe. I remember using Dublin Airport lounge for the sole purpose of shower... I remember the lounge was pretty minimal.. I was traveling from Burlington VT, USA to JFK, to FRA to DUB, to MAD. Strange itinerary but it was cheaper to take the LH to DUB, then Air Lingus to from DUB to MAD on a separate ticket than to take LH from JFK to MAD. Actually, I was on my way to Japan but the reason for stopping in Madrid was to see someone that I had met in Sydney, Australia six or seven years before and had lost in touch but miraculously found on LinkedIn or something. From Madrid, I flew Qatar Airways via Doha to Tokyo. I had 7.5 hours in Doha and I was supposed to be on the "Transit Passenger" bus but I decided to get out and got on the "Arrival Passenger" bus and got out of the airport. I had a good time in town, had dinner, sat in a coffee shop, visited art gallery, souvenir shops, strolled along the water, etc.
Maybe I misunderstood/misheard but during the day you can get a return to Dublin airport from the city centre for much less than €25! The hassle is an 1hr + sometimes there and back on the local buses.
I enjoy keeping you company and the randomness of your travels. How much did you save for your long way round return journey out of interest. It kept us entertained even if it unfortunately means you get little sleep 😀👍
Interesting. I used to fly Ryanair from Glasgow (Ayr Prestwich airport) to Hahn directly. Didn't know the connection doesn't exist anymore.
I flew Prestwick to (Frankfurt) Hahn on Ryanair's first flight on the route in the early 2000's. A businessman in front of me stood at the aircraft door. He looked out at the tiny terminal and said loudly in a very posh voice " Could someone tell me where the F*ck I am because this is definitely not Frankfurt?" Hahn had been an American airforce base and looked exactly as if it had just been abandoned.
Kealy's pub is 10-15 mins walk from where you did the video in Dublin Airport. Lovely pub full of locals and airport staff, very nice staff there and way cheaper than the airport. Standard Dublin Bus ticket to city centre is €2.60 each way.

Excellent video from a money saving expert 👍 PS I'm a subscriber of 6 months or so
Blimey, 78m away. That’s like having a secondary airport for Birmingham in Manchester or Bristol near enough
At Hahn they say the delays are due to staff shortage. This is a useful excuse because it’s a problem impacting all industries in Germany. Out of their hands. But in fact the real problem causing delays is that some of the parking spots can’t be used due to cracked tarmac. Big knock on effects. I had to wait over one hour in the plane in August …
And you made it Scott you allowed plenty time thankfully and the money you saved its crazy difference never flyed budget yet seems you play within Ryanair rules n get there cheap just don't get caught out seems the way anyway Scott g8 video as allways thanks
3:50 yeah I've always been surprised by the number of people sleeping rough in Germany, it's almost as if it's ignored by the media.

Most Germany Airports as far as I know have NapCabs in the airport for around 20 euros.
