    hello sir could you please explain why you didnt assign the lump mass in (x,y,z)? if we have to do a multi-directional earthquake the lump mass should be assign in all three- direction? thank u again

    in this modal dynamics analysis the output response is with respect to time, is there any analysis type in abaqus that would give response wrt frequency ?

    Hello Dr.Elkady, Thanks for your video with detailed explanation. I just want to know how did you calculate your critical damping ratio in the modal dynamic step. I am working on a displacement base motion problem of a cubic structure in aluminum alloy, but I have no idea how to define my critical damping ratio. Apparently it depends on its material characteristics and its geometry, and it is difficult to calculate with precision, I would like to know how did you proceed to get your value if possible. looking forward to your response. sincerely, Liren ZHENG.

    There are no analytical expression to compute the damping coefficient. However, in litrature, you should find recommendations (based on field or experimental observations) for the damping value. For steel structures, the damping ratio is generally between 1% and 5%.

Exactly, I did find a recommendation of damping ratios of continuous metal structures between 2% and 4% in an article about damping ratios of materials., which is close to 1% and 5%.     Model dynamic analysis is typically used for elastic analysis. Otherwise, dynamic implicit or explicit shall be used.

    Preselected output requests are ignored in sim-based modal superposition procedures (except complex eigenvalue extraction). You must always specify output requests to the output database (.odb) file; otherwise, the analysis will not be performed. A user odb or sim output request is required in a sim-based procedure. Analysis Input File Processor exited with an error. How can I rectify this? Please help.

    All model data can be obtained/extracted from inside the .cae file that is uploaded on GitHub.

    The data are publicly available online, search google for "Elcentro acceleration data". Also, in that regards, you can use data for any other earthquake.
