You didn't mention the other tabby pattern. In British usage the cats with vertical stripes down their sides are called mackerel striped after the fish, while those with the cinnamon bun whorls are called classic. My current beast is a classic tabby and my first was mackerel striped. He looked just like the cats on Egyptian frescoes.

That circular pattern on either side is also referred to as a bullseye pattern. I've had one classic tabby in all my years. Oh he was beautiful! He was orange or ginger colored and he had the sweetest demeanor. I got wholly attached to him. Unfortunately, he didn't live past one year old. He got out of the house and was hit by a car on the highway in front of our house. I was beyond devastated😢. I miss his sweet and affectionate personality.

I've had a number of tabby coated cats over the years. My current one, Merlin, who's a chocolate/tan/buff American domestic shorthair with a bit of Maine Coon thrown in there, is the most "velcro" cat I've ever had. He follows me around like a puppy dog. If he isn't in my lap, he's always within my reach. He absolutely has separation anxiety. If I don't tell him, "See you later, I've gotta leave the house for a few hours," and give him pat pats or a chin scrub before I leave the house; he gets his feelings hurt and will walk around the house "yow yowing" for an extended time. I know this because my son told me of Merlin's behavior. He's a sweetheart most of the time; but he has a seriously feisty playful streak. Something odd I've noticed about him is that he huffs and sighs when he's agitated or irritated or impatient. It's hilarious, and I giggle each time he does that. He's something else for sure! But, I adore him, just like he adores me, as I am undoubtedly his person. I ♥️ 🐈s!
