    Speaking of that pesky ringtone, was once watching a video of yours with my EMT bf asleep in the room. When your pager went off, he BOLTED out of bed and started freaking tf out thinking he was late to a call. 😂😂😂 He complained saying you used the most annoying ring and it was the one he despised the most. 😂🤷 I now watch your videos with earbuds as a result. 😂😂😂

    Hi, Siobhan. I adore your videos and they were a part of my decision to pursue medicine following the Bachelor’s degree I’m currently working towards. Would you ever consider doing a full week in your life? So that we can see more of the work-life balance, things like how you spend your days out of the hospital and the number of hours that you end up being at the hospital vs. at home?

  • @Bellg

    @Bellg

    I'm thinking about doing the same (study medicine after bachelor) but I can't stop obsessing over if i will be to old then.. do you worry about that aswell or is it just me (because i tend to worry a lot lol)

  • @kiki-qf3qx

    Belg it depends on how old you are now. but if you graduate high school and work full time towards becoming a doctor you should be about 26 by the time you achieve it and for me that is an okay age! i worry about being old too to do all the things i want (i want to become either a dentist or doctor ) to do, but you'll still be very young trust me!! don't worry about all the years it takes, it's going to be worth it.

  • @Bellg

    @Bellg

    5 жыл бұрын

    @@kiki-qf3qx I already graduated High School. It's just that I struggled a lot with my health during high school which caused me to be absent a lot. I live in europe and in order to be allowed to start studying medicine one needs to pass a standardized state exam and that's the obstacle i've yet to overcome.I'm almost 20 now so now i'm just struggling a lot with wether or not I want to actually pursue it or just give up and go do something "easier". I'm not sure how much time I would need to prepare for the exam. I'm just having a hard time coming to grips with the fact that life threw obstacles on my way which prevented me from starting at a younger age. I know it may sound ridiculous since i'm "only" 20 but to me it's a big deal. I could try to get a BA in something else i'm passionate about (something easier) and preparing for the exam during that, at least then I won't be left empty handed if it turns out medicine isn't for me after all... uggh so many ifs and buts.. sorry If i bored you lol

    Love the videos. Is there an actual valid reason as to why 26 hour shifts exist? With the known effects of sleep deprivation I would think that a position as critical as a doctor would have required daily rest periods. If truck drivers are forced by law to take 8 hours after hitting 14 hours or so. It seems to smack of potential mistakes being made.

  • @elisens

    I have to say, watching your videos has actually helped with my fear of doctors and hospitals. I had some medical-related trauma as a teenager and for years I couldn't even go to a hospital without having a panic attack. Something about watching you calmly and cheerfully do your job in a hospital has helped remove that anxiety. (Still physically flinched watching you explain that probe-to-bone test... some kinds of pain you just don't forget haha.) Thank you for sharing your career with us. I may not want to work in medicine, but these videos are helpful to me all the same.

    Guess theyve done studies and shorter shifts have higher patient death rates due to the required communication and coordination. Regular shifts would have 3 times the amount of people whove only been around the patients for a third of the day so there can be a communication breakdown potentially between doctors handing handing shifts off.

    Hey Siobhan! Just got back from a long day at the hospital getting bloods and regular medication as usual😉But everything didn’t go to plan ! I’ve been having low blood sugars this past week but didn’t realise!Doctors diagnosed me with diabetes!!!! And mabie thats why i’m always low enery and sick all the time😔But not surprised cuz my granny had the exact same, until she passed away on my birthday (the week i was in hospital for 2 weeks with a lung infection) ??Remember??

Omw to the hospital...........i’m not suprised if i get admitted for the third time since discharge last week! And i’m not suprised either if my teacher Amanda drops in ! Ugh I feel like I’m just getting sicker the last few weeks!

And you're just so positive and sweet. Keep up the hard work!! Nurses and doctors don't get enough credit for what you guys do.

    I find these videos so interesting. My dad actually has been a diabetic for 35 years and went through dialysis -> kidney transplant -> and now he is facing wounds on his feet (like you mentioned in the video) and they are trying to see if a hyperbaric chamber will help heal the wounds.
