25 Travel Tips (Hacks) for the Airplane

Here are 25 travel tips and hacks for when you fly in an airplane. If you have not flown in a long time or if you are an avid traveler who commutes to work, these 25 tips and travel hacks will help you while you are on the airplane.
When you travel, this first tip for the airplane is to download your airline app to find travel tips before you get on the airplane. Many airplanes have an onboard entertainment system that you can only get to through the app. One of the airlines lets you know where the plane is coming from and where you are on the standby list and how many seats are open and more.
Another travel tip is to take all the items out that you will need during the flight and put them in the seat back pocket before you take off. #airplanetips #traveltips

Reclining our seat back is something my husband and I don’t do. We want the person behind us to be as comfortable as possible, without our taking part of their space. Also, we don’t put anything in the seat back pocket. We don’t want to forget anything, it’s germy and we don’t want the person in front of us to feel any tugging. Thinking of others is just part of being a thoughtful, considerate fellow passenger.

If I need to adjust my seat, I usually tell the person behind me that I’d like to adjust, and to tell me if I am in their way. Generally, I only need a tiny adjustment, just enough room to put my sweater rolled up at my lower back.

Marilyn Heras go check with TSA on their Facebook page. You can ask there, or check the current regulations on the TSA site. The problem with any of us answering is that regulations can literally change overnight. What was ok last week might not be today due to some threat they learnt about yesterday. Always travel with the idea that you might have to lose stuff on the way through TSA & just let go and move on. When you get to your destination just buy another. It’s not just about faster lines. Sometimes it’s a threat that they just learnt about or the agent is having a bad day. If you argue with them you could trigger a major search and miss a flight as a result. Ask them, print out the response but if your TSA agent says otherwise shrug your shoulders, let it go and keep moving.

I never use the pocket with the exception of readind the sky mall magazine. Once I put my cheap head phones in there, reached in and found a very old used diaper. Left the headphones in there for good. Most airlines also charge for wifi. Download books, videos, games that do not use wifi before you fly to save some money.

Love your channel! Not the same old ideas everyone else is throwing out. I need to get with loading the airline’s app, or at least photographing the boarding pass. I agree on pulling out your necessities before putting the smaller carry on under the seat. Research shows that the seat pocket is one of the most bacteria-ridden areas on the plane, so I always carry travel wipes and wipe down all surfaces (buttons, food tray, armrests touch screens, and around the outer and inner edge of the pocket). Then I have my device, glasses, book, etc. in a large ziploc bag and tuck that into the pocket. That way my hands never touch the grotty inside of the pocket. Super idea with the blue tape...not much is more frustrating than having to hold a cord just so into a port for ages. Finally, I carry a hoodie AND a wide pashmina or scarf. That way I can be extra warm, or roll up the pashmina and use it for lumbar support on long (6 hours plus) flights. The pashmina also can double as a blanket. Thanks for another terrific video. 💕

Awesome tips, as usual. And as a flight attendant I have to say thanks for pointing out how busy we are at points of the flight. I want to provide the best service, but there are times I cant focus on one guest when ensuring the safety of everyone. The only tip I would sort of disagree with is taking your personal items out of your bag and putting them in the seat back pocket. We regularly find jewelry, cell phones, IDs, Wallace and all sorts of stuff in the seat back pockets. Plus some of those Pockets aren't always secure. On older aircraft some of those pockets may have tears or holes where your personal items might slip through.

I saw that and I think she meant and said personal items such a book or a tablet. Maybe even hand sanitizer or a snack for the flight. Nothing more or important and irrelevant. Unfortunately people often placed important and irrelevant things in those seat backs and they shouldn't. I try to remind everyone with one final announcement when the door opens and hope for the best 😌

Bonnie, people usually put their bags in the overhead compartment near their seats, so you shouldn't have a problem. If there isn't room, just ask the attendant for help. (on a side note, I always watch where people put their bags when I'm up front, just in case a passenger tries to take up space in the front when they're sitting further back. I don't think it's fair! LOL!)

Amen on the airline apps! A text from the airline alerted us to a fog delay that would have been a vacation disaster. An airline rep was able to reroute us, allowing us to drive to our connection (closer to our home) and we were able to get to Korea when all of our plans needed us to be there. Double silver lining is that returning to the connection airport, rather than the original one saved us many hours on our return. And it was far less expensive than if we had booked through the closer airport in the first place.

Thanks for the suggestion to download the airlines app. Yeah, I heard that they are VERY expensive also. Insurance won't cover a CPAP just so someone can travel light. Hi Laurie! When we flew on American from Miami this month, the kiosk printed out our boarding pass with TSA precheck at the top. We were surprised since we had never applied for this. It was nice, just wondered if this was unusual. Thanks! I enjoy all of your tips.

Love your tips! I use Portion Pack Snack bags (3.5” x 5.78”) for the liquid items (lotion, eye drops, chapstick, hand sanitizer) I want easily accessible during the flight. It is the last thing into the 3-1-1 bag. After security I move it from the liquids bag into my in-flight comfort bag which goes into the seat pocket

I was worried about my short layover too but what helped is to download the airport maps before. I had a 45 min layover in dallas. My flight landed in one terminal and the connecting flight was in another terminal. But I saw that there was a free airport train called the Skylink that easily took you to each terminal.

Your tip regarding the lady who couldn't carry her luggage made me think of a travel tip that I use and I don 't know why I didn't share it before. But because airports are huge I can't walk very far especially with luggage but when you make your reservation ask for special assistance because walking is difficult and someone will meet you when you check in at the airport and wheel you and your luggage thru security and to your gate and even if you want to get something to eat to take on the plane. But get to the airport 90 minutes before flight boards to make sure you get to the gate in plenty of time. When you land at your destination a person will be there waiting for you to help you to go baggage claim it you need to go there or help with arrangements leaving the airport.

If you have Netflix and the wifi is not working like it has done to me, use the download feature and watch your shows offline. This actually worked out really well on my last flight because the wifi would not work with my phone. the flight attendants are like Nurses and CNAs to me they are heros in the sky for putting up with so much and taking care of everybody. I am partially disabled and I let them know before hand and checked in with the flight crew about what I can do on my own and what I would need help with. Knowing how many rows back my seat was and knowing which side of the plane it is from both directions made their job easier. I always choose a seat around 24-30. its in the backish part of the plane without being close to the bathroom but is usually nearer to an attendant that does the safety demonstrations.

@@TravelTipsbyLaurie i stumbled onto your videos last night and have been watching them all night. Those 5-15 degree days were the worst! My little brother and I had to go out to the car to warm up every couple hours. He had data service which was good so we watched shows. We didn't have any food that wasn't something you at least needed water for except the snacks I always keep in the house. (We are both in our 20s and those snacks saved us) I will be subscribing soon. A lot of the things you have talked about I actually used my first flight alone which I knew about just from the TSA website because I knew if I wanted answers I could just go to that website and search.

We will be flying to Alaska next yr. Going United, which we’ve never flown on before. United has a smaller personal item requirement and it’s driving me crazy because I carry a backpack. But most backpacks are larger than United size for personal item 9x10x17 where Delta is 8x14x18. Most are 1/2 larger, 17.5”, will that matter???? How picky or STRICT are the rules? I bought a Jansport half pint but it is only 4x9.8x11.2 “ and am afraid it will not hold what I need for my personal PLEASE help
