Funny you mention the Kansas City airport. That was our home airport when I was growing up. Pre-9/11, all of the gates were wide open. As soon as you walked into the terminal from the outside, you could walk directly to the gate and it was only a few steps away. Post-9/11, they built the walls around the gates and there was just no smooth way to do it. You’re right, it’s odd, but it’s a 9/11 thing and it didn’t use to be so weird. Thanks for your videos! I love them!

A REAL ID/Drivers License will be required to fly within the USA starting October 1, 2020. This is NOT the same as an Enhanced ID/DL; states with just the Enhanced ID/DL are not in compliance with the Federal REAL ID act. However, a Passport or Passport ID card can also be used instead of a REAL ID/DL for flying within the USA. Check with you local driver's license bureau sooner rather than later if you plan air travel in the future.

My adult son and I are flying international this fall and I have a couple of questions. When I go online 24 hrs before, do we check in separately? I paid for the tickets so they have both of our names on them. When we do check in do we get all of the tickets for our whole trip? Appreciate any help, I've learned so much from your videos. Thank you so much.

You check in for both of you since they're under the same reservation, you get boarding passes for one direction, so if you have a connection you get to check in and get the boarding pass for that flight to but for your way back you have to check in again for that flight.

Jean, that will be great. I'm not sure about what tickets they will give you; if you are connecting, they will give you those tickets. If you can go to a kiosk a couple hours before the flight time, someone can help you. if it's unclear when you are online. You can try calling the airline, but wait times are horrendous. Thanks for watching!

If you have a question regarding security, it is more than fine to ask an officer that isn't in the middle of doing something they need to concentrate hard on. Don't small talk, but it is fine to ask questions, or compliment them on being so cheerful despite it being so early in the morning (they do appreciate it, I assure you). My best friend is a TSA officer, and the last time I flew, she was working and had a couple minutes free after I went through security, so we were able to just talk - day instantly made.

i have TSA precheck and there doesn’t seem to be a standard across domestic airports as to how to proceed with the screening process. it’s a bit frustrating! also, my husband wears an insulin pump and even though he notifies the TSA agents that he can’t go through x-ray it is always a big deal that costs us valuable time. maybe a video addressing these issues in the future? love your videos!

Thanks for letting me know Mary. Yes, I completely agree that it is not standard. Have you used TSA Cares? It's on the tsa.gov site and look at disabilities...don't know if this will help (always have screenshots of their site in case they want you to do something else): www.tsa.gov/travel/special-procedures

Hi Laurie Love your tips. I have a question and would like to know your thoughts about anti-theft bags (is there really such a thing?}. I am planning a trip to Europe (from Canada) and have seen many anti-theft backpacks and cross body purses. What are your thoughts on these bags? Are they worth it?

  • @kathygann1180

I have some Travelon purses/ backpack and love them. When my son went to Europe, someone slashed the guide’s fanny pack and got all their tickets and money. Travelon bags have metal mesh so they can’t be slashed, wire through the straps so they can’t be sliced, and rfid shielding plus locks on zippers, and a way to fasten them to the table or chair so a thief can’t run off with it.

Doing things by phone is great but oddly, on a recent international flight with AA, some 2-dozen people who had checked in on their phones, were called up to the gate desk with their passports, etc., to prove their ID. Very strange. I prefer checking in 24 hrs ahead of time and printing off that hard copy.

Have you been using Global Entry coming back into the US? I am flying back in October from outside the US on a Saturday and understand that is the busiest day at that airport and Global Entry was recommended. Now I have a card that can go into a Kiosk to bypass Customs? Looking for info from someone who has used it. Thanks.

You know here is a story. Flying from DFW to SFO on American I took a carryon, no issues it was within the correct size for a carryon. Coming back, I was MADE....to check my carryon at SFO and paid full price for it, like it was a regular sized suitcase. I even explained to the American worker "hey this is a carryon, flying to here I did not have to check it" SO...now I am freaked out. I sort of don't trust airlines with taking a carryon now. I wonder how often this happens?

I had a small roller bag that I knew for a fact would fit in the overhead of the small plane I was taking. She said, we ask everyone to gate check because we won’t have enough room. Then she saw I had priority, was boarding first, and changed her tune. All of a sudden, my bag was just fine to be taken on board.

  • @kimadamson67
    @kimadamson675 жыл бұрын

If you have an IPhone, you can add your boarding bar code to your wallet. After You have checked in online, there is an option to have the code texted to you .Do that, and you’ll notice a small icon below the barcode that reads “add to wallet “ click on that and it will automatically be in your phones wallet. I’ve also saved concert and other event tickets that way, and been scanned in at the gate using either my IPhone or Apple Watch. Pretty cool! And fast!

If you are at home...print that ticket bar code. It is a way to present the ticket if something goes wrong with the phone (forgot to charge maybe). Many airports like Charlotte, Baltimore and orlando have a app with gps maps. Will help prevent you from getting lost...or help in finding the fudge store you love (Thank you Terminal B in Charlotte) Also Government Employees, Military and their families get to use the staff and tsa precheck lines FOR FREE. So wave those ids around instead of your driver's license I had a friend who was a tsa agent tell me this. Don't pack light colored powdered make up....ESPECIALLY NOT WHITE. Sometimes they have ingredients that cause your bag to be pulled aside. Liquid or gel make up is a safer bet for speed. Also width is generally 8 to 10 inches for carry on Also being in a hurry makes you much more likely to be pulled aside for a random security check. Love the video by the way.

I had bought cheese on a recent trip and got pulled aside due to the “blocks of suspicious items” to have my carryon searched. Additionally, I have had a knee replacement and it often sets off the metal detector. I am then either patted down completely or am sent through the x-ray instead. Is there some way to advise of the knee and be x-rayed and bypass pat Downs?

  • @TravelTipsbyLaurie

Yes, cheese. And some cheese cannot be brought here from another country at all. I THINK you can ask for a private pat down, but I'm not sure of anything else you can do. Thanks for watching!

I experienced a very embarrassing and even a little painful pat-down going through security when I wore a pair pants that had a small decorative tab below the waistband and just slightly left of my belly button. It showed up on the x-ray portion so the had search, by a female TSA involved her putting her hand forcefully in my groin area...so please be warned...snip off those decorative metal name plates/tabs or don't wear those pants when flying, it was uncomfortable to go through that.
