This list is one of my favorite ones so far. I'm a 60 year old woman from down South, and my Mama was born and raised in Fountain Inn, South Carolina. She and my Aunties were always spouting off some kind of Old Wives Tale. And since my Mama was the youngest, they were mostly old, and eithe.r married or widowed. So I thought it meant just the group of them talking and spouting something off whenever anything happened to cause them to say something they had memorized. Almost like they were afraid that if they didn't, something bad would happen to them. Most of your list I knew, but there were a few that I had never heard of in my life. I love learning something new. Thank you. I love your show!!

The correlation between dental problems and pregnancy is well known. That is why, in the UK, pregnant women get free dental check ups/treatment. The OWT about red sky at night is very old. When I first heard it though, (in the UK) it was "red sky at night shepherds delight, red sky in the morning shepherds warning". The explanation of why this happens is also very true. This is interesting: "In a separate study comparing Buckwheat Honey with Manuka, scientists found that Buckwheat honey had greater antioxidant activity than Manuka, and exhibited equivalent antibacterial activity against the bacteria Staphylococcus aureus and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Both honeys show great abilities to restrict the growth of bacteria in lab conditions. However Buckwheat could fight some bacteria that Manuka could not. A recent study found that buckwheat honey is more effective than over the counter cough syrup at treating coughs in children! Buckwheat has also been shown to improve heart health, help manage glucose levels, and is gluten free and non-allergenic."

"It takes money to make money" I heard this aphorism plenty of times during grade school (I'm now 67); from my grandmother and her friends, when they sat down for coffee cake and a gossip session (I made the coffee cake). Usually they were talking about how Grand Marsh would grow into a city. What they talked about, usually was where the money would / should be spent - - more especially by whom. I heard long & boring (to me) conversations about who should advance the village's growth (with money invested).

That's true for raw, unpasteurized honey, but the stuff sold in most grocery stores in North America, like "Billy Bee Honey", is processed, and often mixed with high fructose corn syrup or other ingredients (that for some reason, they don't have to include on the label. 🙄) It loses a lot of its healing powers, unfortunately. The tips and "health hacks" posted around social media rarely specify which type, or how much. (Same with cinnamon, which has some great medicinal qualities. Benefits increase IF you buy the less kind (Ceylon) from a health food store. The type sold in a bottle or pouch in the store is the cheaper, and therefore more popular type of cinnamon (Cassia), and is good for helping to regulate blood sugars in diabetics. )

An "old wives remedy" that I keep proving true everytime I use it or give it as advice, is: "a slice of onion in the sock while you sleep, reduces the time a sickness stays with you" it only works if on the bottom of your foot, however. Your feet have the most absorbent skin on your body, and absorbing the nutrients/antibiotic properties of the onion directly into your skin helps it get to where it needs to go faster. Since proper sleep involves laying down, & sleeping is when your body does it's mending the most, it's the perfect time for it to absorb the onion's helpful stuff. Ofcourse you could always eat the onion too, but for some reason, it won't help as much as when it's put on the bottom of the feet while you sleep. I've also noticed that those who go with unwashed feet, unwashed shoes, or keep their feet cooped up in stinky sneakers all day, end up getting sick more easily. I'm a flip flops kinda gal, so I'm glad my habits of what kinda shoes I wear helps keep me healthy. I haven't been sick in 4 years, and counting.

Later they told me that "poop flows downhill" means people above you in the hierarchy keep all the good stuff for themselves and pass the bad stuff like unpleasant tasks to the lower-downs. Thing is, Dad was a plumber. When a big part of your job involves keeping the toilets working and the pipes running, "poop flows downhill" is literally a useful thing to keep in mind. (He said the third thing to remember was "don't bite your fingernails". That one, I think, *is* specific to plumbers.)

I think the term "actions speak louder than words" does not allude so much to hand or body gestures' being more communicative than speech; rather, it refers to how one's actual behavior --- i.e., behaving himself, keeping his word, checking up on you to see if you need anything, etc. --- is a much more convincing/meaningful indication of one's caring and honesty than his just verbally professing to be such a great person. (And of course, the reverse can be true, also --- you may hear really bad things about someone from certain folks who do not happen to like him for whatever reason, but then if he treats you exceptionally well, you can figure that most likely those public-smear comments are just idle rumors, and should be discounted. Many times, people who are jealous of someone with superior morals will badmouth him just to make themselves feel less inadequate.) It's kind of like someone's claiming to be very reliable about paying back a loan --- the only way to determine if he is truly that conscientious is to see if he regularly comes to you with actual cash, rather than flimsy excuses.

I would agree with you on matters such as faith...you cannot just talk the talk you MUST walk the walk, day in and day out, until it is your life and resides in your heart. I disagree, though, in many other areas. WORDS can: - Communicate with our comrades, our opposition, & those of neutrality - Stop wars - Prevent misunderstandings - Change world views - Bring hope to the hopeless - Calm the distraught - Mend broken hearts - Educate the pupil - Create: Literally anything you can think of, your own sandbox on paper! - And for those of use who desperately need it, take use to another place for a while, to be someone else, in a different life, with different challenges and burdens, in a whole different plane of existence...so we can get a much needed respite without having to leave our house or our body. And THAT, Shari Chambers, is the incredible power of talk of WORDS. And yes, I believe the pen more powerful than the sword. I believe it to be the most powerful tool Humanity possesses... To set aside the pen and take up the sword, is easy to do. But, think long and hard, first. The cost is only our humanity.

Here's one for a woman wondering about her future with a man: "If you want to know how a man will treat you as his wife, watch how he treats his mother." If a man talks down to his mother, ridiculing her opinions, and treating her like she's worthless, he will do that to his wife. He may not be doing that to you yet, but he definitely will. Sadly, I've seen this verified much too often amongst my friends and family.

You sound like you are the kind of girl that's very easily led around and was taken advantage of by a man in a suit or you are a very forgettable female who never walks out with the alpha male, in which case, it's easy to reject what you can never have (coming from a man who likes the kind of woman that wearing a suit and tie attracts). It's like this, you have to make men work for you, to court you properly. Take pride in yourself, and demand your man take you seriously and respect you enough to wear a suit and tie for you... otherwise you will keep meeting beta males and losers who think that swiping left or right makes him a stud as opposed to approaching a table of women in a bar. ;-)

@@normalaird8262 yes... you are right, character is more important than the surface things... unfortunately, it's hard to wear your character on your sleeve... In general, (I never said all women), women tend to like men who know how to present themselves. This gets you in with more women than not. You are confusing Marketing with Sales. I am speaking of marketing, getting your foot in the door. After that, it's up to the salesperson in-store to sell the product. That's where someone's personalty and character shines through. The reason you need to market yourself, is because, a typical woman gets approached in bars often, and they need some sort of defence mechanism to weed out the weak so they don't waste their entire night with some "nice guy" who just not going to try and "close the deal". (and ladies, you know what I am speaking of). This is why women will give a guy many sh!t tests when he approaches her in a bar. She is trying to see what kind of character he has. This is, again, where the marketing comes in... dressing like a slob won't get you very far with most women, in fact it will be the first sh!t test a guy typically fails. If a woman rejects you for dressing in jeans and a t-shirt, shame on you. If a woman rejects you for dressing up nicely, then shame on her. For a woman to say these things doesn't matter, tells me that she isn't used to being approached in bars that often and her options are limited, therefore, she has less standards.... and is not the person that any male wants or should take advice from.

Rubbing many coats of egg white on a burn, makes it heal faster. My mother taught me this. Egg white is full of protein and if you have a burn on your skin, whether from a flame or hot surface, or from a sunburn, rubbing several layers of egg white on it, allows the skin to directly absorb that protein, therefore making the healing process go much faster. One must note that the egg white cannot be immediately washed off. In actuality, it should not be washed off for at least 8 hours and should be reapplied at least once. I personally still use this to this day. In 2014, I had severe 3rd and 2nd degree burns, that I didn't go to the hospital for, for 3 days. During those 3 days, I applied egg white. When the doctors took me into surgery to most likely do skin grafts, they determined that the grafts were not necessary. I have the proof to back this up. They did still use the cultured pig skin, to cover the burned areas of my body. The (lack of) scaring of my skin, would make anyone question my burning at all. Again, proof through the UNC at Chapel Hill Burn Center, one of only two burn centers in North Carolina. I also have pictures to boot.

The tips and "health hacks" posted around social media rarely specify which type, or how much. (Same with cinnamon, which has some great medicinal qualities. Benefits increase IF you buy the less kind (Ceylon) from a health food store. The type sold in a bottle or pouch in the store is the cheaper, and therefore more popular type of cinnamon (Cassia), and is good for helping to regulate blood sugars in diabetics. )
