25+ gothic book recommendations for a dark and stormy spooky season
Take a shot every time I say the word "gothic" in this video lol
Gothic books are perfect for the gloomy, spooky, fall season (and my fav recommendations to give) - they're atmospheric, dramatic, dreary, sometimes very scary, and give you that nice cozy existential dread we love around October. Not all these gothic books are gothic horror, I do have some gothic romance and gothic fantasy in here too! Hopefully you'll find at least one good book recommendation that will make your spooky season that much spookier. Live your best tortured gothic heroine life 🖤

The Hacienda and Vampires of El Norte, both by Isabel Canas, are the most atmospheric creepy gothic books I've read! It you liked Mexican Gothic you'd love these.

I wanna read mysteries that aren't famous from specifically the 30s or 20s. I'm actually a beginner in reading, so how can I find stuff?? Authors, catalogs, titles? Shouldnt we have modern magazines organizing vintage authors by genres?
I next need to read mysteries of udolpho, I'm reading things in order, so I've read her first three. Castle of Otranto is fantastic
Some excellent recs!! I technically am still reading Summer Sons as life came along and kicked my ass and I didn't want to tab anything! But I'm hoping to pick it up again soon!!

Omg I know!! I need to read all the short stories that go along with All the Murmuring Bones next 👀
I'm not much for the Gothic at the moment, but you never know when a good recommendation might come in handy! If only I wasn't 100% with Heartstopper rn, I don't think I'll be able to focus on the spooky season 😂😂

Ugh I’m loving it so much
Do I do a lot of short comments, or a really long one? Also, love the gothic heroine shirt, I am currently wearing a vampire fang bottle filled with blood and a necromancer spellbook necklace. Anyways, I agree that dread is an important part of gothics in general, and I actually include it in the definition when I try to define it to people. Some other gothics on my tbr that I didn't see here includes The Hacienda and The Vampires of El Norte. I didn't know the political history behind gothics and I found that quite interesting. If you ever do a deep dive on gothics I would watch it. I did actually know about most these books, because I too love this genre but they can be a pain to find so when I hear about them they do stick out. Have you heard of the Tales of the Weird series? It is this series of anthologies that are all horror stories. I have read Evil Roots: Killer Tales of the Botanical Gothic, and I have physical copies of Tales of the Tattooed, From the Depths, and Heavy Weather: Tempestuous Tales of Stranger Climes. There is also this other one which is a gothic and dark fantasy series that are from flame tree publishing. I am saying this because if you go to site and go to books its under that category, and there are so many. It is really worth a scroll to see what there is. There are also myths and tales and collections of certain author's works there, but it is worth a look and I have quite a few. I am currently reading Spirits and Ghouls Short Stories and Haunted House Short Stories. I have recently got a few new books, because I am in the mood for gothics and darker books in that direction, and one of them is The Last Tale of the Flower Bride which I am very excited to read. I also for A Study in Drowning and Rogue by Mona Awad. You definitely boosted They Drown Our Daughters on my tbr, because it didn't occur to me that it will match my current mood but now...I may be picking it up soonish. Great video, and I am looking forward to the next.

Ok well now I want a vampire fang bottle filled with blood. I thought about adding the Hacienda but it actually wasn’t my favourite! I’ll definitely look into the Tales of the Weird series though, those sound amazing. I am SO looking forward to Rouge by Mona Awad it’s one of my most hyped books of the year 😍 I’m glad you enjoyed the video!
I really wanted to enjoy Caleb Williams, it put me to sleep five nights in a row before I gave up, whereas the monk was downright deranged
