25 CRAZY LAWS You Wouldn’t Believe America Would Still Have (If It Weren’t For Civil Rights)

If it weren’t for the civil rights movement, America would have extremely crazy laws. These crazy laws would have made living in America a nightmare for some people. Today we are going to share with you 25 crazy laws you wouldn’t believe America would still have it if weren’t for civil rights.
We’re thankful that these crazy laws are no longer an issue. However, history has a way of repeating itself so we must be careful. See our full list of 25 crazy laws you wouldn’t believe America would still have if it weren’t for civil rights (and our photo credits and sources) and be sure to leave us a comment on the video to let us know which laws you think were the craziest:

Can you believe that at some point in our history there were crazy laws against inter-racial marriages? That our schools were segregated between white and black people? That it was illegal for women to vote? We’re not making this up. Our history is full of crazy laws such as the Indian removal act of 1830 or state laws against homosexual acts between consenting adults. The good news is that these 25 crazy laws are no more. It’s sad to think however that at one point in our history, they existed.

❤❤❤❤❤ My father spent his whole life never admitting he was Native American. He was adopted by a white couple who insisted he was Caucasian, which was obviously not true. I never understood why until I learned as an adult how Natives were discriminated against. I'm heartbroken my father didn't live long enough to embrace his true heritage.

@@debbylou5729 he was a very brown man being raised by very white people. I am also a brown person. Nothing makes a brown person white. I get what you're saying about his "heritage" being American. What you're referring to is his culture. My mother is also Native American. Our tribes go back 10,000 years, along with our cultures, which I guarantee you are not White, or European. He was robbed of his culture. I have moved to our reservation and I'm learning the culture of which we were all deprived. I make an effort to restore this culture in our family for the coming generations. French is not a lost culture, beaten out of your ancestors by the Catholics and Europeans who decided it was savage. You can't compare the two. I am by no means indicating that I am a victim. I've been very successful and I don't see my skin color as a deterrent That's the beauty of being American; opportunities exist for anyone willing to work for it. Harsh Fact: The reality is that a person with seizures is quite limited in what they can safely do. It is illegal to discriminate against you, unless the reason for discrimination is valid. You aren't going to be able to get work as a Truck Driver or a heavy machine operator. Can't do any kind of job where sudden unconsciousness and flailing about could cause harm to you or those around you. There are some jobs where you'd be fine.

He and my stepmom have weekly dr visits and meds that equal over 2 grand a month on his 2300 retirement checks. My son and I moved in with him last winter as housing and age almost put them on the street. My father and I are native Americans and our own tribe being 2 states away cannot help us.

#26 Children's Civil Rights. Prior to the 1980's children were considered property of their parents. An abused child had little to no recourse. Parents even got away with murder of a child. Children could not sue their parents for any permanent physical damage. I remember a widespread belief that "good" children were so lovable that they would never be abused so if a child was abused, that abused child was not being "lovable enough".

I think we feel shocked sometimes about our prejudice elders(the things they say!), but forget these civil rights battles were being fought and won fairly recently. Imagine the world they grew up in! But we need to be mindful that we are still battling for these freedoms and they still remember and experienced so much that we can't even imagine. We must continue to fight against injustice so that our children can grow up free. We still have a long way to go. These attitudes will not disappear over night, but we need to be thankful of how far we have come, even though we still have a long way to go towards equality.

Just a reminder many U.S states don’t have laws preventing discrimination in the workplace based on sexuality or sexual orientation. Someone can literally get married to someone of the same sex on Friday, have a honeymoon on the weekend, and be fired on Monday when their employer finds out. The vast majority of Americans think U.S federal anti-discrimination laws include LGBT protections when they don’t, so I thought I’d shed some light on that.

Are you guys interested in history ? If so, you need to do some specifics on slavery. The jailed irish that were sold to americans to get rid of the cost of jailing them...how about blacks that were owned as slaves by free blacks or by north american natives ? These parts of history are often ignored. How about through history of how the side who lost wars often became slaves to the "winners"...this shows all the similar types of slavery that existed through the history of mankind, and is very interesting. How about the chinese and korean slavery to the japanese in the first half of the last century ? This would be extremely interesting when we talk about the history of rights. I would love to see what you can dig up and present on these things.

Mystogan Edolas I hope you are wrong, but I know it is not popular to show how mankind constantly repeats itself and really learns nothing from history because we are always on our own side. Selfishness rules history. Thats why we have financial breakdowns every 80+-10 year cycles. At those times the financial hurricane starts...when we get into the eye we always brag that we're smarter now and it will never happen again. Than the greater speed comes in and our mouths drop and we want to blame someone else. Pride always knocks us down.

#21 ~ Wrong! The 3/5th compromise was reached to decrease the number of Representatives in the Southern States where politicians were attempting to use the number of slaves to solidify power. The 3/5th compromise prevent this attempt to rate slaves as the same political value as a freeman. The North was under no delusion that Southern Representatives would argue for the rights of slaves and only accepted any appraisal to prevent the South from failing to join the fledgling Union as well as still provided a means to derive Federal taxes. Indian Removal Act and Japanese Internment ~ Brought to you by the Democratic Party Yeah Abortion ~ Number #1 LEGAL killer of Americans (notice how most Planned Parenthood clinics are in poor/minority neighborhoods ~ Margaret Sanger would be so thrilled to see eugenics alive and well in the 21st Century). The attitude while presenting this video totally ignores historical realities and attempts to judge the past by today's standards. You even used the LGBT denial in WWII as horrible yet just glossed over the government employment act in 1952 ~ the security of State secrets was the motivation in both cases not some believe about the ability to fight. The government could only act on what the medical sector was feeding them and the Doctors and APA at the time were claiming homosexuality was a mental disorder. You are also fooling yourself if you think employers don't discriminate against age ~ the government does it as well by denying training programs to older adults.

+zach mussid ~ How gullible, you really believe the Democrats became Republicans; I really feel sorry for you. Is it not the modern Democrats who argue that minorities cannot make it under the same standards as everyone else? Is it not the Democrats who argue that minorities would be hurt by insisting they possess I.D.s to vote (even though every legal minority already has one)? Is it not the Democrats who invoke racial epithets whenever a minority chooses to wander off the reservation and follow another path? Is it not the Liberals in Hollywood who continue to make the "White Savior" films to prop up their belief that Whites are superior to minorities and must follow the DNC way of government handouts... Get with the times child, nothing changed except the Democrats overt embrace of Socialism and Big Government to hide their racist core.

    1. Don't care 2. You may as well argue against a 'war against murder' all the 'war on drugs' ever did was attempt to stop the flow of illegal substances from outside and inside our borders. It was as effective as the alcohol prohibition and impact all races. To claim a higher percentage of Blacks (54%) than Whites (47%) dismisses cultural glorification drugs in Black neighborhoods. 2. (2nd one) - that is a socialist argument and you are actually arguing your race is incapable of obtaining higher education (sorry I don't agree). Add to that your contention that wealth improve education, which has been thoroughly debunked by the failure of the Dept. of Education to even maintain worldwide standing while injecting billions of dollars. The highest education dollar per student is in D.C. and they are also among the lowest performers. Additionally, land obtained in conquest is not 'free land'. The vast majority of land ownership in the U.S. is in a handful of people excluding everyone else not to mention the plethora of land seized by the Federal government (which in reality should own no land other than D.C.). Your arguments are based on your feelings and not a rational reading of studies. You claim the South turned because Republicans embraced bigotry while posting an article that demonstrates the Southern strategy was to replace ingrained racism with economic and individual freedom concerns. You claim their has been insufficient time to 'catch up' while ignoring the success of other minority groups like Asian immigrants and recent immigrants from African nations. You also ignore that success in education is tied more to cultural support than financial strength of the schools. You claim Black schools get 1/6th the funding of their White counterparts as if schools have been re-segregated. If 1/6 of funding goes to 'Black schools' isn't that still more since Blacks are only 1/12th of the population? As for less qualified teachers that is a nation-wide problem due to entry qualifications to college with respect to pedagogy have dropped in the last few decades. Finally, what you fail to acknowledge is the reality that the standards are the same, yet it is the culture that differs. You continue to support the Democrats who oversee the failure of the schools and scream it's the Federal government's fault your schools are bad failing to realize the vast majority of education funding and control is conducted at the local level. If you have had five decades of educational failure and the local school boards who control the funding have been solidly Democrats for over six decades then you are yelling at the wrong people. If your school board prioritizes administrators over teachers and structural improvements (as often happens) that is the reason a school fails. Hopefully the push for school choice will be enacted and failing schools will have to answer for their substandard performance.

Before responding maybe you should brush up on your reading comprehension as your responses are grossly wide of my comments. Also if you had the ability to interpret the written word you would have noticed I stated the Federal government's involvement in education proved a negative correlation between what they spend and educational achievement. The rest is simply you bloviating on your feeling and I couldn't care less about how you feel. You spam a thread with opinion pieces and then accuse me of trolling. I gradated from High School in a small village in southern NM in the 80s and I clearly remember how they had to bus in Navajo students from the Mescalero Apache Reservation in the mountains down to where we were in the valley, about 30 miles one way. They were divided between our school and a couple of larger cities. I don't remember anything specific but I do remember an atmosphere of real tensions and discrimination against them. It was unfair and very sad.

In my opinion I agree that women have the right to an abortion if They are raped or if incest is involved Or if they had a one night stand or if a father doesn't want to be involved But if the father wants the child then they should not be allowed to get an abortion If they don't want to have a relationship with the father or have the child then they should sign the rights Away and give a child to the father to raise I think that is fair reasonable in my opinion I've known a lot of women that use abortion as a birth control Option and that is shameful

Yes you are right about that but we're allowed to have opinions that's what makes world a great place right And sometimes abortions are the right thing to do in the right circumstance But sometimes that woman that has the right to Do whatever she wants with her body Has a little body inside of her That should take priority over her decision If there is a father out there that wants to raise and love that child Sometimes abortions are the right thing but sometimes they are not For instance I was engaged to this woman one time We both wanted to have a child We tried that she became pregnant We broke up two months into her pregnancy And I told her we could have the child I love to raise it with her Or if he did not want that I could raise it without her But no sense we were not together she wanted to have an abortion Even though I want to raise my child You do not plan a child and then want to have an abortion when things don't work out That is selfishness And in cases like that I think the father should have the right by law To say no to an abortion if he wants to take the responsibility For that child In my opinion that is a fair compromise

But men will not be permanently damaged by the fetus nor will they go through the pain of birth. delegalizing abortion does nothing more that make them unsafe. I agree that fathers should have some say but not equal to the womans. and in my state its only legal to three months. 12 weeks means there is no brain or beating heart. its not a person at that point. In relation to point number 10 - gays in the military. You might find it amusing perhaps but during World War 2, at Prime Minister's Questions in the House of Commons, a Member of Parliament asked Winston Churchill if he would be considering extending conscription into the military to homosexuals. Churchill's response, as recorded in Hansard, was, "What !!! And close Harrods? [a bespoke department store in London] Never !!!"
