Great video! Also, how you carry some things can make a difference. I love the Doohickey and carry it on a ball chain necklace for easy access. I have lost things off my keyring before, so I limit what I put on it. Also, it disperses bulk a lot better. Just a note, I know you don't really like the Kershuffles (I do, I have a couple of 2s!) but for a budget knife, sometimes Walmart will carry older model Kershaws at well below their original price, and I have picked up a few good blades this way. Carry on, good sir!

  • @richarda3764
    @richarda37644 жыл бұрын

I found that Nite Ize DoohicKey at the store a while back and fell in love. The difference maker is it's a simple multi-tool with prybar, bottle opener, box tape cutter, but it has the carabiner clip so it's essentially just a keyring to me. With so many additional "just in case" options without greatly increasing the size of a keyring, it's a very efficient use of space. At $4, it's also damn cheap so you have to love that. Having used it for about a year now, I'd highly recommend it if looking for a keyring that can do more.

I LOVE the gerber dime in concept. The back of the bottle opener adds just enough length and has just enough angle to nest in my palm for one of the most comfortable plier in its size. The tool spread is great for me. Aside from the joke files, I have used and like every tool. It rides nice in the pocket. Problem is lots of small quality control things. Plier tips match up, a scale not sitting flat. Would gladly pay that higher price if it's a quality control improvement. U also like the shuffle. The 2.0 not so much but the original I recommend. I need to go back and hear his complaints.

Another good edc pen option is the Tombow Airpress. It's plastic, but fairly robust in my experience. It's got a fat body and it's rubberized so the grip is great. It pressurizes the ink when you click the plunger and the ink is more consistent than the Space Pen refills. A standout feature for me is the lanyard ring. I use a tiny split ring to attach it to a retractable badge lanyard and clip it to my work vest so I have instant access to a pressurized pen at all times.

As a Direct Support Professional, the Fisher Space Pen is a great hefty pen that gets the job done never had it strand me while writing up my 4 or 5 paragraphs of notes. It makes sense to me to be willing to buy expensive stuff cause I tend toward minimalism in some ways, I like to buy it once and get the maximum lifespan and utility out of an item. But, I also have a place for cheaper stuff - easy to buy multiple copies to have one in each bag and not have to think about it, and I can have stuff attached to the outside of my bag or in my back pocket in the city and accept the risk of losing it. Also great for small gifts to tempt friends to join me in my EDC obsession :P

What was surprising to me is how much use i got out of the voctorinox scissors and the Dime box cutter. The quality of the victorinox is superb and holds great though the years, can't recommencement it enough, the quality of the Dime is... acceptable for its price.

I didn’t hear you mention it, but when it comes to the pens the zebra f-701 can also take a space pen insert! You just have to use a toothpick to take a small piece of plastic out of the top of the pen! I have used that kind of pen at work for the past year and I’ll never go back. And it only comes out to about 15$

Midnight manager victorinox is about the same size but introduces a pen function and also bottle opener. In addition a lot of people don’t realize this but the blade on the midnight manager is on the opposite side of the key ring this allows you to use the blade easily while attached to your Keyes. The SD model has the blade on the key side which is a little annoying when trying to cut something.

The refills for the space pen include an adapter to make them compatible with standard Parker ball point pens. That the Jotter uses. And the Jotter with a space pen refill is still less than $20, and if you write a lot the Jotter will feel far better in your hand than the Zebra or the bullet pen.

The most useful keychain scraper I ever had was the parachute keychain. Titanium. But it had a wide area, and when I was operating an industrial laser cutter, it was the most used thing. It could pry, but most useful was the side scraper, which I used A LOT to clean off areas that had labels, tape, grease or some corrosion that would interfere with the laser. And due to the hardness it barely got worn and wouldn't damage the material. It sucks for actually opening bottles though, and I've never used it for anything but scraping and prying.

I carry a nite ize doohickey and a Swiss army classic SD everywhere I go and that's the lightest, most useful combo I've found. I've had a Leatherman micra for over a decade but it's a lot heavier and I really don't need all the excess weight when the little Swiss army knife and doohickey do everything I need. I love the doohickey cause it's cheap and clips on my keys and doesn't weigh anymore than an extra key. Plus the box cutter edge is super nice for when you wanna cut tape but are concerned about damaging the contents of the box. I use those two tools daily and honestly prefer them to a lot of more expensive options because I'm less worried about losing them. For me, the best edc multitool is the one I always can have with me, and that combo is so much more comfortable to carry than anything else I've tried. The micra is great but after awhile the scissors will dull and the tools on it aren't much more comfortable or usable than the classic SD, so I don't see it as being worth the weight. Plus with the Swiss army knife I get a toothpick and I dont use that often but when I need it I'm always so thankful it's there.

I use Parker jotters with Fisher space pen refill, I recently treated myself to the Fisher ag7 which is the pen used on the apollo missions. And the form factor is similar to the jotter.

I mean I understand why a lot of guys enjoy extensive EDCs just to be ready but I have carried a gerber suspension multi tool and a gerber air ranger folder in conjunction with smaller cheap flashlights for 3 years straight and had zero issues. On top of that I've used the gerber suspension and the air ranger in heavy duty construction work and field dressing animals.

After a SAK and a flashlight, most of my EDC is cheap stuff I pick up and put in my pockets: rubber bands stored on the end of my flashlight, a stick pen (useful as a general purpose stick-like-object), a few folded sheets of paper, a leftover shopping bag (my most useful item after my knife and flashlight, flattens to nothing in the back pocket), 3 to 4 feet of paracord (great for bundling and carrying stuff, as a cat toy, etc.), and a lighter in the winter. I find that things which can be consumed and replaced often have more creative uses then things I have to preserve.

Taylor, check out an Ace Hardware sometime, you "I am sure have seen" they have a key holder that you just snap your key ring on an a slight depress, an they are off. If you work where having keys are a several time a day thing, I honestly don't think you can beat them. Sorry I dont recall the name, though I have used them for over twenty years! Love what you do!

I watch a lot of your videos (and others). I never see anyone talk about nail clippers. Yes, you can use mini scissors for some issues, but sometimes you really need proper clippers. I use mine almost daily. They're Victorinox, I think they were about $12 from Amazon, and they're so thin I carry them in my wallet. Would be interested to know your opinions on nail clippers for edc. Thanks, and keep up the great work. Seriously, great info, great presentation.

Damn, I've had the F701 for over 10 years now! Didn't know they were popular in the EDC community lol I'm 27 now and that pen works just as well today as the day I bought it. The ONLY reason I bought it is because of the way the weight of it is distributed, it makes it PERFECT to twirl around your thumb for fidgeting. Takes a lot of practice, but when you do it right, it makes you look like a ninja lol

Joseph if need to get a multi functional pen . Look at B2 skill craft it's a brass with black cerakote . It's .5 pencil and blue, black or red ink. So you wouldn't need to carry multiple pens . Very slim profile pen I have been carrying mine in the machine shop I work at . My carry in the shop is B2 pen and Milwaukee inks all streamlight stylus pro which has been modified of course a 6" scale . All rides in our red cap work shirts . I carry other tools to help me in the shop when I away from my tool box . I carry a Milwaukee 6 and 1 RZR screwdriver I carry a metal tin with Milwaukee quarter inch drive hex bits from 12 mm to 3 mm carry Milwaukee torx 10 to 20 various Philips one two and three Robinson flat drivers 2 in extension a Craftsman 1/4 inch ratchet knipex Cobra XS pliers and a right in the rain poker pin it's a lot to carry .I carry it in chums surf wallet . These little tools can help me in anything in the machine shop from changing inserts to getting into a panel of the machine or just tighten various fasteners.

Leatherman Micra is basically a fingernail kit in a tool. I find it heavy -- take it on travels but don't like to carry it. If you want a file, scissors, knife in one small light package get the Victorinox classic. I have given many as gifts and everyone keeps it on their key chain and they find it so handy. The knife is small but is sharp and it does cut! I bought the Zebra F-701 pen for my nephew and he loves it. Personally I use disposable plastic pens -- Zebras always write well, I find. Can't say enough about the Olight I1R EOS rechargeable flashlight -- has helped me many a time in dark stairwells, getting my seat belt on in the back of car etc. I recharge it about once every 4 months on my computer. Makes a great gift. Those steel cable aren't the greatest -- I found they unscrew over time so I stopped using them. Thank you for another great video!
