24V CUMMINS STARTER REBUILD with COLD START

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

24V CUMMINS STARTER REBUILD with COLD START! You requested it and I delivered. I finally did a cummins denso starter rebuild video after my cummins starter was not engaging to start the truck. I Checked the starter relay and fuse, but the truck finally died and I figured that it had to be starter contacts and starter solenoid problems. I got a denso starter rebuild kit from our friends at genos garage rather than doing a full cummins starter replacement. The denso starter rebuild kit comes with two new contacts and a starter solenoid to replace your starters old parts with. The starter removal and install process is very straight forward and easy to get done. A rebuild kit is more cost efficient than buying a new replacement denso starter or going to a shop for a starter rebuild service. If your cummins is having starter problems then I suggest getting a rebuild kit and doing it yourself. Hopefully this how to video helps you with everything from starter removal tips all the way to taking care of your cummins starter rebuild and installing new starter contacts and starter solenoid over having to get a starter replacement for your truck! Who wants more cummins cold starts? Winter is far from over here, so there are many more cold starts to come!

Good job on rebuilding the starter. A lot more cost effective way to do it i spent 60 cents for the copper connections and been going great. Thanks . Keep up the good work.

If you ever have to replace your starter or alternator my advice is go with Wilson. When it comes to construction and ag equipment they’re the most dependable brand you can get. I’ve been using them for years on my truck and all the heavy equipment shops I know only use Wilson electronics.

So i replaced my solenoid contacts and plunger and I took apart the motor side and it was clean. The copper was slightly discolored but not much. The starter spins over outside the truck but not while mounted to the engine. I by passed everything by using a power probe to run the starter and still just clicks while mounted to the truck but no spinning over. Outside the truck it will spin like mad

You probably won't believe it but I thought my starter was dead at 474k miles (the original one) would crank real slow after getting to operating temp after I shut it off. so I tore it apart just like you and cleaned it all up before buying a new one... it works yet again. honestly looked just about as bad as yours. there was zero grease left in the gear housing but it really did come back to life with a serious deep cleaning and brushes/ contacts. really wonder how long it will last

the signal wire stud to the solenoid how does that attach internally? the nut is seized onto mine and putting a wrench on it and vicegrips on the stud snapped the stud off flush with the nut, spun the stud and ripped whatever wire is on it inside off so now it doesnt engage the solenoid

Don’t use brake clean use electrical cleaner like QD contact cleaner. Brake clean the outside not the inside. 85% of the time it’s contacts and plunger not rotor.

pure panoRAMa there are 2 ports for electrical and one for coolant so it doesn’t gel while you are driving. FASS has a video about it. I think there are some pretty awesome options for what you can do to make cold starts effortless. Including a coolant heater. Also something to look into if you have the money.

@@keithwolfington7013 I'll jump on the fass page when I get home and watch their video. I do need something to heat fuel since I did away with my stock fuel heater when I did the 12 valve style fuel filter head

pure panoRAMa I found the video on KZread. They have a few different ones. It’s pretty nifty to see the different options they have. The kit is $151 from most places I’ve found. If you want to run two electric heaters you need two kits. I have read that the coolant option is significantly cheaper. But that wouldn’t help on start up. They do suggest using a switch on I believe one of the heaters. Best of luck!
