24 pounds of cold processed soap!

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Nothing fancy today. Uploading directly from my phone but hey.. it's a start 🤣 Today we're making a 24 pound cold processed batch of our gravity scent! It's my second attempt. The first try was yesterday and I totally messed it up. Thanks for watching!

    Thanks! Some scents we sell a lot more than others. Those are the ones we need to make bigger batches for. That way we're on top of things a little better. Some fragrances won't behave well enough for me to even try doing a bigger batch just yet...lol. So, it's a partial transition. 😁

    I think it's better to be worn out than it is to be burned out, you can get rested up and go again if you're just worn out but it's not as easy if you are burned out or both. Sorry you lost all that , that really sucks.

    Is the mold constructed like you usual loaf sized ones, or did you have to change something to accommodate the added weight?

  • @unclejonssoap

    Built the same way. 3/4 inch plywood bottom and 1x4 sides. Seems plenty sturdy.

    You could try to re batch the one that seized. I had to cut up a whole bar and melt it down once. Add the oils you forgot finish it out hot process. Maybe could save you some?

  • @unclejonssoap

    @unclejonssoap

    It was so lye heavy that saponification was already done. It would have cost more in time and materials to try to rebatch. And cold process soap really doesn't melt down well any way...lol. All a learning experience.

    I would love to hear about how you got into selling soap! I’ve always wanted to try my hand at it but I just feel like it would be a waste as I live in a small rural area in MD and have no idea how id my market soap

    I talk about it a few times here on the channel. I might add a video that a friend of mine did for me about our beginnings 😁. It can be tough to get started. But the best way is at farmers markets and online when starting out. Gotta build a brand. That's The key.

  • @unclejonssoap

    Each batch will be a little different. Some soaps have colors and some don't. This batch of gravity should have some swirls but I wanted to get a successful big batch done first before I mess with that. So, these bars will be a little plain but still smell amazing😁

    I have a question. I am brand new to soap making. I have ideas on what oils I want to use. My question is... how do you know how much of each oil you should use. For instance. If you made a Olive, Coconut blend how do you know how much of each oil you should use or is it just experimentation?

  • @unclejonssoap

    @unclejonssoap

    3 жыл бұрын

    Some is experimentation and some is knowing what each oil brings to the table. Such as hardness, bubbles, lather stability, conditioning, etc... There's a site somewhere online that does help explain what each one does and how it acts I'm soap. But, most calculators show you the properties of your finished bar when you add it to the recipe. So, if you add just one oil, you can see exactly what it's properties are. Do that for each oil you want to use and then you have an idea how much of each to use, percentage wise. I just wouldn't start out with more than 2 or 3 oils for the first few batches while you're learning.

    I would also get on a lye calculator and start experimenting with that. That's where you'll learn the finer details and home your recipes.

    just wait 24 hours and then clean the bucket and wa-la you are washing out soap instead of oils

  • @unclejonssoap

    @unclejonssoap

    3 жыл бұрын

    Still easier this way for me. Because after 24 hours the soap is hard and stuck to the bucket. A little dawn dish soap and it's clean in just a couple minutes and I don't have a mess to come back to the next day 😁
