#24 Just a finger-joint jig...

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

We are going to make a few boxes and that's why... we need a finger-joint jig. After scrolling around on KZread, seeing a lot of different ideas, we wanted to keep it simple. And because we don't have "dado" blades we went for this system...
after the idea of Jim Steinbrecher.

Good job! I've alao thought that just a jig that allows a defined amount of travel at each step would suffice for me, as I guess dado-blades are out of the question for me. Can't wait to finish my garage and build jigs and other stuff to fill it with. :)

That was a very interesting build. I like that you offset the fingers! So did your twin get his haircut and is he trying the stop smoking also? Thanks for sharing.

Your jig is great. I like not having fingers close to the exposed blade when cutting. Other jigs I've seen do not deal with that. One question I have is. : what material are you using for most of the parts of the jig? It appears to be some sort of combination of wood chips and a plastic like material. I have only seen this in your videos. I am fairly new to woodworking, so forgive me for asking, please. I appear to be the only one asking about this. I would like to know where I can get some of that wood-like material! It is grey and seems very stable, and also is hard enough that the edges do not chip or become uneven with use. I have also seen your video about the child's chair. I plan to build that in a few months. Keep making videos, please! Your work is unique and inspirational!

The material is www.valchromat.pt/ It's a kind of MDF, used also for toys and such. It's available worldwide I think. If you want more information about it you could visit the KZread Channel: kzread.info/dron/ETeXD_3awsQv-9rSdCYXQQ.html Cristiana (Get hands Dirty) works a lot with this material. It's an amazing product for your tools, it seems to have some "grease" in it, works good with tablesaw, jigsaw and router!

Dat ziet er goed uit...is het geleiders houtje de dikte van je blad? Heb je geen afmetingen of tekening want ik ben wel geintresseerd. Great looking jig.... is the guiding pin the thikness of your blade? Do you have a plan for this jig or dementions? I am interested

Nice build and for giving creds. to Jimmy Steinbrecher for his design...but for the jig parts, what exactly are you cutting into, some type of gray plastic?

Your jig has all the features I am looking at. How is it holding up and are you still using it? The hinged keeper is a great idea. You have a ton of videos. Other than #25 have you used this jig in any of them? Any mods to it?

I'm not using it much, but than I can't videotape everything that's going through the workshop. The jig is mostly used when I need to make wooden hinges. I haven't modified it, but if I would build a new one I certainly would make it longer and probably try to figure out a more user friendly way of clamping. Maybe a system with toggle clamps instead of the threaded rod with wingnuts.

A T track with toggle clamps would be handy. Also thought about making a removable waste board on the bottom 2". Also making it longer as well. Will look at your wooden hinges video. I have made some using a scroll saw.

I don't own nor I want to own a table saw... But I do have a router and a bandsaw... I am wondering if this very intriguing solution, which allows interesting permutations, could be adapted to either one of these tools... Any ideas?
