Yeah, the algae by the spout and in the basin are a sign that the water contains no toxins. Also, they only begin to grow when the water is still, there are no algae in the pipes.

I like how you guys give us a different perception of what our city feels like. We've gotten so used to it, that most of us don't even notice all the beautiful details. We never stop to think about the gardening, nor the fountains or the coffee. Glad you guys liked it. BTW, the white dip is called Katuk (Kat-uck). It's not really a dip, more like a side haha

Sofia in its central districs is simply amazing. It has the nicest, chillest vibe, the architecture, the murals, the history are so rich. There are parks, there are coffeeshops, taverns, restaurants. Its nothing like most big cities where the central part is usually super busy and fast-paced. However, outside of the city centre it is not so nice. The more remote neighbourhoods are mostly filled with commie blocks and the infrastructure (sidewalks, streets, etc) is less well-maintained. But to be honest, most of them are getting renovated and modernized as we speak so the city is trending upwards fast. Glad you guys enjoyed!

@@ONWorldTravelYou won't be sorry guys, Plovdiv in particular should feel even better than Sofia. Btw, during your stay you should've gone up in the Vitosha mountain (that pedestrian boulevard you visited is named after the mountain) because no impression of Sofia is complete without visiting THAT landmark. If you can't/won't come back to Bulgaria but still plan to visit the Balkans, then do visit Belgrade (leave New Belgrade out, it's a vast concrete ghetto), I like it a lot, even more than Sofia

Thank you for viewing Bulgaria with your hearts. Sofia changed a lot and our important economical capital but also Plovdiv our cultual capital and Varna our maritime one. You can travel from one end to the other maybe 17km in Slofia and pay only 0,80€ with the cool and clean metro. Do not expect smiles like in Spain, but there are luckily still cool people. Yes, food in BG is so tasty because it is a very arable land and used to even feed the Soviets during commism times. The beaches are maybe not like the Greek, but still very fine sand or clean water or rocky beaches in the north but with very nice views. The ski resorts are good. Bansko is trying to bring more digital nomads because you can find very cheap flats, cheap internet, relaxed vibes, do hiking if you like it because the mountain and nature are super. In Melnik, which is not so far away try divine wine and see their "pyramids" as it is the smallest city in the country. Bulgaria is just so old and diverse and will depend on what you are looking for. Yes, we are after Iceland in spa and have so many places for spa tourism also for curing skin problems. We also have the Danube small islands for kayaking and can go on and on talking about it. The tap water is tasty and especially the one in the mountains or if you spot it with our "modern" roads. You must try the one in the monasteries. It is usually very cold, but very nice. The one in Sofia is very hot because it contains more sulphate minerals and smells like rotten eggs, but very healthy. Also, we have a very old Ottoman mosque, the 3rd largest synagogue in Europe, a catholic church and of course Orthodox Alexander Nevski because of the Russian liberation from the Ottomans. We were with the Nazis in the wars, but still saved the Jews. Wacky history. Summers can get really warm in summer (not as much as Greece) in Plovdiv for example but then you have so many parks to escape the heat because Bulgarians have a strong park culture. Many cities have at least 1 big park, where people gather and just chilll. We have many trees, mountains because of the rain and sunshine and nice landscapes if you get a car or take the (lousy) trains but will see lavander or sunflower landscapes. The rose is important to us. You can even buy rose shampoo, rose oil to hydrate your skin and used in many French perfumes. Of course, ugly Soviet buildings. We are between the East and the West and therefore will find very strong differences. Our language is South Slavic but with a more old Hellenic syntax but Russians will understand it 50% maybe. I mean, you can imagine.....in the Balkans history is very complex. Finally, yes we are very proud of our sour milk, not yoghurt as it is called in Bulgarian because okay Greek one has much better marketing but the difference in the taste is enormous. And yes, we use it and consume it quite a lot. If you have visited a BG supermarket or smaller stores it is almost impossible not to spot it. There is and will always be a huge kiselo mlyako section. The origin of yoghurt is very debatale.

Just one slight correction - the lifestyle is affordable only to foreigners. For comparison - the amount of money a doctor in the US gets per year is the same amount a bulgarian doctor gets in about 10 years. When most people here pay their rent, bills, groceries, vehicle maintenance/fuel, they have almost nothing left to ,,treat themselves,,. (especially in Sofia)

This is complete nonsense. Open event websites to book theatre plays, operas, ballets, concerts, exhibitions, science lectures, cinemas and just look at how many tickets have been bought... Most events are sold out completely, even those with high prices. If you walk around the centre, restaurants are full every day. Тва с киното, театъра и т.н. даже нямам идея що го спомена (не са нито задължителни разходи, нито пък са всеки ден). Фактите са, че повечето хора тук са или НА или ПОД минималната заплата. @@TzvetozarCherkezov These are not a recent development, it has been that way for ages. Whilst Bulgarians are, on general, getting more wealthy than before, especially thanks to the previous decade, I'd argue that the recent years since Covid actually lowered the purchasing power quite a lot. Prices for various commodities, goods and services have went up 2 to 4 times, whilst income is lagging way behind. In my own case, my PP has went down significantly in 2023 - and I've observed similar experiences with the people around me. Not as significantly as during 21 and 22, at least, that is for certain. I am aware that this is not the case for everyone, though - and perhaps things are better in Sofia than here in the countryside. Yet, inflation is heavily underreported in the official statistics, just like in every country, and they will continue to underreport it since it's a major Eurozone admission critera.

@@kamenhristov7756 The purchasing power skyrocketed since early 2023 and is now far, FAR above pre-pandemic levels. For the last year and a half the wage increase is around 10-20%, depending on industry, while inflation has slowed down to 3%. Unemployment is barely 5% and businesses are actually flying in Uzbeks and Tajiks to work, because they can't find people. That pushes salaries up, obviously. Statistics don't agree with what you'd argue. Inflation is not underreported. You either have no clue how it's Mathematically calculated or simply are a conspiracy theorist who doesn't agree with simple Maths. The fact that you even think that it CAN be underreported shows us you don't understand the basics of inflation. If it IS underreported the market self-corrects based on those reports. It's supply and demand. Econ 101. Find somewhere else to peddle bullshit.

@@calincimpianu2161 Not sure what you mean, but fun fact - There are 0 historical sources calling any Bulgarian ruler "khan". The myth comes from the spelling of the word "Княз" (pronounced "Knyaz"/"Knyas") as "Kanas". In all of the correspondence between the Roman Empire and Bulgaria, the Bulgarian leader was called King, Tzar, Emperor, Ruler, and so on but never Khan. On the other hand many Turkic khans were actually called khans by the Romans, which is yet another proof that the Khan title is a bit of a myth. We're still slowly uncovering the truth, so keep an eye for any new data :) Cheers!

@@calincimpianu2161 Possible. "Old Great Bulgaria" is the place where Getae lived. Ancient Greek authors also mention the Sarmatians are from the Getae branch. But Asparukh isn't that much important. He is only the creator of Danube Bulgaria as a seperare kingdom. Before that it was still Bulgarian, but a province of Eastern Roman Empire. “ Vitalian withdrew into the province of Bulgaria.” J.Nik. Chron.LXXXIX-76 Vitalian lived in 5th century, but as you can imagine for the land to become known as a province by the name of Bulgaria it must've been inhabited by Bulgarians for a long time. Asparuh's name actually comes from the word Aspa which means horse in Thracian. Also Esperih. It is well known that the Medes ancestors of the Sarmatians therefore of the Getae family brought horseback riding to Persians, but people who don't know the details often fall into the illusion that Aspa is a Persian word.
