If you get here in the spring the the Rodeo and Rodeo carnival are a must, The Tunnels in Downtown, Discovery Green, Heritage Plaza building, Buffalo Bayou Cistern, Kemah Boardwalk, Galveston Beach (especially during Mardi Gras), The entire Museum District, The Post, Woodlands Waterway, HPD Memorial architecture by Buffalo Bayou, Lake Conroe, Space Center Houston, Budweiser and St. Arnold's breweries, if there are concerts Miller Outdoor and Cynthia Woods Pavillion, Memorial Park, Houston Zoo, The Galleria (if you like shopping, ice skating, and the waterfall), The Alley Theatre and really entire theatre district, The Texas shaped pool at the Mariott Marquis, Buffalo Bayou kayak tour, Typhoon Texas Waterpark, Emancipation Park (good concerts there also), Moody Gardens, Gus S. and Lyndall F. Wortham Waterfall Park, Freedman's Town, China Town, Rice Village, The Heights, River Oaks, Washington Ave, Matagorda Bay, Memorial City, E-Do, Midtown, Downtown in general, and I would say going and seeing the Astro Dome (although they need do something with it to spark more interest). I will say that if you are into hip hop to take a visit to Screwed Up Records also. I won't even name all the restaurants and bars, because there's too many.

Surprised you didn't visit Shipley Do-nuts. It's a Houston staple. Chicken and waffles at The Breakfast Klub is also a must. Kim Son restaurant for Vietnamese food. Greek food at Nikos Nikos in Montrose (the gayborhood). Hiking and biking in Memorial Park, shopping in Post Oak, Bellaire (Chinatown & Little Saigon), Houston Zoo, etc.

I grew up in the 70’s with Polish Homes, Tin Hall, 59 Ball Room, Western Swing, DanceTown USA, and Gilley’s original in Pasadena. Quite a few of my classmates were extras in “Urban Cowboy”. I live in Tennessee now and many of those dance halls are gone. Makes me sad. I have a lot of good memories of all of them.

@@kaylamorshedi6679 Keep in mind I will speak in terms of greater Houston because some things are spread out. Monument Inn down south in LaPorte is a legendary seafood house on the ship channel where you can eat delicious seafood and watch huge ships pass right in front of your window. The Farmer's Market on Airline near the Northside and right across the street El Bolillo the Mexican bakery. Chinatown in SW Houston near the beltway offers an experience like none other with all the varieties of shops and Asian cuisine. Definitely tour Hong Kong Market! The Mahatma Ghandi district in SW Houston offers a huge variety of Eastern Asian/Indian businesses and several middle eastern businesses. Someburger in The Heights is cool and been around since I can remember. Corkscrew BBQ in Spring is probably the best BBQ in the Houston area. It sells out quick so get in line when they open. Once they run out for the day it's too late. Ninfa's in East Downtown Houston. This is where Tex-Mex started in Houston in the 70's. We are thankful for Mama Ninfa. For nature the Houston Arboretum has many trails to view local plants and wildlife. I hope this helps! Enjoy! If you like drums check out my channel.

Also, the Science Museum, and a few of the other museums here, offer free Thursdays during the week. The science center has I believe a 3 hour window, while the Art center has the whole day. And the art center has 3 buildings to explore. Its definetely worth your time.

Just as a nibblet of further info - the bat colony is smaller here, currently, as a result of Hurricane Harvey and the subsequent flooding. It essentially drowned something like 50-75% of that colony in particular and yet to recover fully. I don't believe it was ever more massive than the Austin colonies, but the bats were one of the big losses due to the storm.

I think pops need to give a little more credit to the movie, now granted, the book is good because of its very visual description with words, and emotion, the movie condensed it all into one simple image, or a scene, you no longer need to read 3 pages to get an idea of what the Durin's Door looks like, you can now see Durin's door in one second. The books are great, The Hobbit is my favorite book actually but the movie also serves a great purpose of introducing people to JRRT's world without reading the books. As for the city, that butterfly exhibit... oh my... as someone who went to practically all the available butterfly exhibits nearby, that looks like a fantastic one, all the socal ones are "temporary wire nets" essentially, that looks absolutely impressive. Way better than even the San Diego Safari park's butterfly exhibit two months ago.
