    In the first days Shimano only manufactured sprockets by stamping them out, later they were deep drawn to produce the Hyperglide profiles and also to strengthen the sprockets through the forging process, the older cranks still had the old distance, so they were mounted with washers to correct the position .

    Thank you for the nice video. If I may, two little pieces of advice from me: 1. When you use detergents to clean your derailleur, you should deassembly the entire part and lubricate it (especially the mainspring and derailleur cage spring). 2. It would be a good idea if you level the ends of the cables with a locksmith's file or an angle grinder to prevent damage to the Cable End Crimps

    Honestly I'd be cool with the primer grey that laid down real nice on the frame. If I started sending it down I already broke the seal so anything goes I got one I can't save the paint on right now I don't have the confidence to reproduce the factory colors. But I will spray the hell out of it with some primer and ride the s*** out of it. And occasionally have to explain to the cops why I'm riding a painted bike😅 I was pretty naive back in the day a drugged out homeless guy try to sell me a bike I'd be like hold on a minute did you steal it 🤔? Oh really your mom gave it to you? I got 10 bucks for it right now.😮

    You can't use V-brakes with an old 1989 cantilever brake lever, they take different cable pull. The levers will pretty much bottom-out the same time as the pads hit the rim.

  • @garysprojects

    I explain it in the video about the pull ratio , it works depending on that , for these specific levers it does

    those brake levers will also let you run u-brakes which iirc only bmx levers will let you do now. By that same logic as well they should also work for disc brakes too right?

  • @garysprojects

    @garysprojects

    3 ай бұрын

    Mmm not sure it depends on the pull ratio of the disc brakes , road disc are short and mtb are long , it’s best to match the lever pull with caliper

    Thank you very much ! I painted that rim in my Kona chute video more details , it was just cosmetic at the time , I don’t think it does anything to the rim. Braking wise nothing has really happened function wise , I think a little paint came off that’s all. Paint is black exterior house latex based Hope that helps , Cheers !

    @@garysprojects Awesome thanks, I'll check out that video:) I have some crusty old semi-deep rims that are in okay condition but have seen a ton of use and just look really beat up. Want to give them a second life but was worried the paint might reduce friction too much or whatever.

    I was working on a customers bike the other day, a Kona Lanai, it had a front 3x8 derailleur, a top pull shimano altus, the limit screws had to get spun out pretty far for the limits to work, is that normal for some older derailleurs? Just looked kind of .. weird to see 2 tall limit screws standing up from the derailleur
