You use a lot of WD-40 for cleaning. Have you tried mineral spirits (maybe called “white spirit” in your country)? It’s cheaper and just as effective, with less smell. You could have soaked that freehub body in it overnight to clean out the old grease before adding the new grease.

  • @garysprojects

Mmm I haven’t tried , I have low odor version of wd40 so that helps but I will look into it thanks ! Cheaper is good for me 😂

Awesome vid as always. A few things: - The hub you pulled off is a UG (Uniglide) hub and needs a threaded last (small) cog to fix the cassette onto the body. The spline pattern is differnt to a HG hub since all the splines are the same width unlike the HG where there is a larger groover/smaller spline. you can make it work with a HG if you file down the splines on the casette and use a cog from a UG cassette to thread it onto the hub - If you refurb a hub shell you would usually go with oil, not grease (i recently had to repair a UG hub where i flushed the gunked up hub with WD40 and put in new lubricant)

  • @garysprojects

Thank you mate! Ahhh yes Uniglide ! Thats it. Haha yes you are right the splines were all the same size and didn’t fit when I tried 😅 That’s cool knowing its possible to make it fit. Thanks for the info , very helpful cheers!

I am using a DX hub with a uniglide body but has a 7 speed Hyperglide installed. There could be a time that the transition to HG had used the same spline designs as the UG ones.
