23CH Grimani Systems & Storm Audio Dirac ART Demo Experience!

Ғылым және технология

One of the highlights of CEDIA 2023 was visiting Anthony Grimani's demo room which was meticulously engineered to have the best possible sound in a trade show environment. This 23CH system consisted of Grimani Systems loudspeakers and new 21" Infrasonic subs, Storm Audio Processing with Dirac Art room correction, Row One Seating, Seymour AV screen and Barco Projection all in a 24' x 16' x10' space. The demo was dynamic and punchy and very consistent sounding for the seating area. The bass was goosed up a bit hot to overcome the noise floor of the show but it never sounded boomy or bloated thanks to proper subwoofer placement and equalization. This is a fully active system meaning no passive crossovers and EVERY speaker is DSP tuned and optimized by the man himself. Anthony discusses the process he uses in designing custom theaters to meet his clients needs. He also uses a new digital standard to connect all of the amplification to the Storm processor with a single Cat6 cable!

I'm so happy for Anthony Grimani's new additions to the audio world! I have no doubt he will do real well in the industry. However, the downside is that a lot of the social shopping we used to do, as well as going to the movies, just don't happen on the scale it used to. Shopping centers around the globe are closing shop do to thievery. Also, with what is going down in Hollywood (Epstein), and P. Diddy (Shan Comes), and all the people behind the entities. I just feel that a lot of social things we used to do will fade away, or change in real dramatic ways. I am in great hopes that Anthony is considering a home line of speakers. Because, I do believe he could be very profitable in this area as well. I just know that if I ever hit the power ball, or inherit a fortune, I am definitely contact Gene, and Anthony! Thanks for sharing Gene! 🙂

Impressive! If I heard correctly, the Strom Audio processor is able to create and assign each speaker its own IP address, as it’s utilizing one cat 6 cable fed through a switch for distribution. If that’s the case, does that mean the processor is able to create as many digital channels as one desires?

Both of you seem to be mistaken. In the Grimani system, each amplifier has its own dedicated IP address, and each amplifier channel is independently assignable. Unlike traditional setups where a single amplifier channel drives one speaker, the Grimani system dedicates an amplifier channel to each driver within a speaker. For instance, a 2-way speaker utilizes two amplifier channels, a 3-way speaker uses three, and a 4-way speaker requires four. Storm Audio can process channels at the speaker level. On a more advanced level, the PowerSound amplifiers divide the audio channel based on whether it's for a 2-way, 3-way speaker, etc. This eliminates the need for traditional crossovers in the speakers, offering unprecedented granular control over sound quality that we haven't seen in conventional home systems. I believe this is the future of audio technology. I find the current trend of active speakers to be lacking. The game will truly change when we see active speakers equipped with discrete digital amplifiers for each driver. Genelec's ONE series monitors are already pioneering this approach.

@pumpituphomeboy RBH Sound already does this with their SVTRS System. Independent amps for every driver. As does Grimani. His amps have built in DSP per channel to control drivers and EQ.

Fantastic guys, turn-key at its finest. 👍Couldn't make this yrs show unfortunately; haven't missed many! Hope you cats continue your multi-part YT series which have been GREAT over the years! Would love a mild departure..... Dedicate an hour stream on overcoming acoustics in "difficult rooms/spaces", particularly larger greatrooms- which we're finding builders are building fewer lower ceiling living rooms and rather an all downstairs large greatroom/dining/kitchen/foyer room! Much appreciated.

I experienced 3 rooms with it at MWAVE 2023 (the first consumer showing of it), and it was great. In the Room Calibration Blind Comparison Room it was so oblivious which one was ART, because the bass was so much better. I had him switch ART off to compare it to normal Dirac, and it was night and day. I had him run all of the blind tests with ART turned off because of this. I'm hoping my SDP-55 gets it, because I'd love to test it at home.

I get the Cocoon sound idea where you have wonderful pinpoint sound in your private movie theater. I'm just not sure I wanna pay $200,000+ for one of his systems. I mean Hey if a part goes out five years from now...sorry...we no longer make that as it's been replaced by a newer model. Maybe no backwards compatibility with future repairs and upgrades. Need a house call for small repairs...that'll be $2000 please. The more complex the system the more that can go wrong. So if your into Home theater mostly and have deep pockets go for it. It's a hard sell for the other 95% of us out there. Might be interesting to see various price points of his different installations and testimonials from happy customers.

People are always at various price points for their equipment, and no problems with that. Anthony has helped calibrate more than 1,000 systems, and the reality is that until abut 8 years ago, he was calibrating other brands of speakers until he decided to develop his own. The focus is really on building a proper room, adding acoustics to make it sound right, and then calibrating the speakers to be as transparent and even-sounding as possible from seat-to-seat. That's important no matter the system, and many of the larger system pricetags include the engineering, acoustics, and calibration, in addition to the speakers and amplifiers themselves. The products are solid, and are designed so that replacement parts are readily available. Things can happen though with any electronic, but the idea is that these are simpler to maintain, including being able to change calibrations and troubleshoot products remotely, so that you don't need to spend as much for a house call. We'll be working on some case studies and testimonials. I don't know how low price point-wise they will go, but I always like to show different levels of systems. Plus even the smalls put out a ton of accurate sound at high SPL, and include the amplification, so it is likely a better fit for those looking to save on the overall spend.

I trust Grimani's knowledge in room acoustics but as soon as he starts talking about his speakers he turns into a salesman. I have no experience with his speakers but according to his website they use dome tweeters for the smaller models, CD only for the large ones, also being active is not special neither. So I'm skeptical them being that great as he says since you don't see his speakers used in big projects nor I can see rooms at AVS but you can gather many with Alcons, Wisdom, Ascendo etc. By the way, Alcons and AScendo are highly regarded but no award for them so it seems to me that CEDIA awards are meaningless. Sorry if I sounded rude, didn't mean to :)
