23 Pieces, Over 50 Outfits » NEW! Minimalist Summer Capsule Wardrobe 2022

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

As promised, here is my minimalist summer wardrobe tour! Here I'm sharing the 23 items of clothing in my minimalist wardrobe and how to build a capsule wardrobe with old and new items to create a personal style that is authentic to you. After a 2-year low buy and no buy year, I was excited to add a few sustainable wardrobe pieces to my rotation. My goal isn't to be an extreme minimalist or own nothing, but rather to own things that I love and love wearing - for 10 years or more! How much clothing do you own and do you need to declutter your wardrobe? Let me know in the comments below!

ABOUT A TO ZEN LIFE
Along my journey to let go of 30 years of clutter, I accidentally became a minimalist and it was life-changing.
Before, I was an emotional hoarder with nothing but the clutter from lost loved ones - and $25,000 of debt - to my name. Now I have a beautiful home in Europe, a happy family, live debt-free, and - best of all - wake up to a life that I’m EXCITED to live every day.
My mission is to help you conquer your clutter and simplify YOUR way to a happier and better life. HERE'S OUR STORY: atozenlife.com/about-a-to-zen...

I own around 85 items not counting pjs, underwear, swimsuits and shoes. With that all I might own around 130-140 because I have a lot of socks for every season or for sleeping. I wear all of my clothes so I am happy with that :) it is way less that I had. I share super small wardrobe with my boyfriend and I hate when it gets too 'crowded'. I also prefer to make laundry less often, when there is only 2 people it is hard to fill washing machine every few days. So I kinda need more clothing because of this fact. 😅

I have 34 items in my closet but that includes sweaters and my long wool trench. I do have some t's, shorts, and hiking pants. But this is what I have for all seasons and I live on a sailboat in Canada. I love linen! When in England I found a lot of it in charity shops and bought 5 pairs of pants alone! I literally had to buy a suitcase to bring it home. But...I packed up my old wardrobe and donated it. I try and go through my clothes regularly as clutter is hard on a boat and if something new comes in I let go of something I'm tiring of. I love the idea of ordering swatches, that's great advice. Thanks!

I live in the UK so have all 4 seasons. My minimal wardrobe (about 30 pieces) is mostly my favourite colours of cobalt blue, emerald green & strong purple. These colours make me SO happy. Because they are all strong colours they go so well together. I have the odd piece (bottoms or shoes) of light grey or navy which go with everything. I used to hate buying clothes & so would buy a lot of “it’ll do “ stuff that I hated. Most helpful piece of advice given to me, by my daughter, on choosing clothes was “if it’s not a “hell yeah, it’s a hell no” now everything I have I LOVE.

My four-season, year-round wardrobe has 35 pieces, not counting activewear and underwear: 15 tops, 10 skirts, 5 jackets/cardis, 5 dresses. Doing the math for the separates makes 360 outfits, without repeating. EVERYTHING matches with EVERYTHING, and some tops are button-ups that can be layered to create even more looks. 35 pieces for more than a year's worth of outfits? Yes, please.

15 hangers, Marissa. That's all the clothing I own for Spring/Summer and Fall Winter! When I travel for a week, I just take it all and still have room to spare. Love your articles of clothing. I'm considering a few custom pieces to replace a few things that I should not be wearing.

I'm not a person who likes to count everything and have a particular amount of items. I always try to have the things that I wear, but I also own clothes that I don't wear very often. This way I feel that I'm not limited to only the things I wear daily, but also I can choose the other ones. I'm this kind of person who gets bored very fast, even when it comes to things. I feel I need constant changes, so I never limit myself with numbers. It feel more freeing to me.

Love this, thank you for the wardrobe tour! I own 54 pieces of clothing (shirts, sweaters, pants, skirts, & dresses). I have 87 total items when shoes, bags, coats, and a few special occasion pieces are included. I live in a 4 season climate and try to make most of my items work year round depending on how I style or layer them. I am a neutrals person so all my items mix and match. Love your channel! 🥰

So inspiring! For the whole year, I have around 50 pieces of clothes, shoes, and accessories and it is about 60% fall/winter and 40% spring/summer. I have 5 dresses, 2 skirts, 4 tank tops, 3 cropped tees, 4 regular tees, 1 long sleeve tee, 1 pullover sweater, 1 button up shirt, 5 cardigans, 4 thermals, 6 pairs of pants, 2 jackets, 1 raincoat, 2 pairs of sandals, 1 pair of sneakers, 1 pair of everyday boots, 1 pair of rain boots, 1 shoulder bag, 1 backpack, 1 crossbody bag, 1 baseball cap, and 1 beanie. I feel good about it! Honestly I could do with less if needed but this works for my laundry schedule and lifestyle.

I LOVE your capsule! You look terrific and anything but boring! Well done! Very inspiring. Especially getting swatches. I went to count- including in my laundry. I have 59 items total not counting accessories or overcoats. I’m happy- I live with 4 distinct seasons ranging from very hot summers and very cold winters. Four times a year I pull together a 22-23 item seasonal capsule from that 59 item year round wardrobe. 8 pants, 10 cardigans, 7 pullover sweaters, 27 tops. 4 dresses. Dress-up stuff is 3. I also have 2 spring coats, 2 winter coats, 1 pair boots, 3 pair shoes and 2 sandals. 5 purses. 2 evening clutches & 2 dressy sandals. 3 bathing suits

  • @eileencarroll6418

Perfect for you. I love your colors and prints. You do have the advantage of making laundry loads with 3 additional people. If I only had two pairs of shorts, I would wear one to the gym, shower and wear the clean pair in the afternoon and I would have to wash 3/4 empty laundry loads every night if I wanted to dress for similar weather or activities the next day. I live alone and launder for one. My summer wardrobe accommodates going to the beach every day for at least an hour. I like to have enough bathing suits and exercise pieces to wash a full load for that type of fabric care. Plus a few extra pieces in case my schedule or health does not alow me to wash on the day I wear the last piece of a type. I like a little flexibility. I also do not put much in the dryer, so I need enough of those pieces to get buy until I wear enough to make a full laundry load. I really like the way you chose quality pieces that were right for your skin tone, personality, body shape, environmental sensibilities, and that all the pieces work with each other in many combinations. I am working toward that and find your story and thought process inspiring. Thank you for sharing.

I love the new pieces you've picked out for yourself, they look SO good on you! I for sure have more than I can count off the top of my head, but when I started watching you during quarantine it really opened my eyes to how I can get rid of things, even when it's hard. I'm fairly comfortable with the amount of clothes I have, but there are a few pieces that are either sentimental and I'm not ready to give them up, or out of season and I need to readjust once we get there to see if they're really serving me by staying in my closet. Have a beautiful day!

I own about 60 items (not counting undergarments) which are for the entire year. In PA, it can get chilly in the evenings during the spring, summer and fall, so I just leave everything in my closet year-round. I probably decluttered at least 30% of my wardrobe over the last 3 or 4 years. I'm pretty content with what I have. I have become more intentional about what I buy & where I buy it. I would like to find one more pair of nice black pants for work, but since I work in a school which is out until August, I've got time to find just the right pair. 😊

Hi, there Marissa I so love your videos. Over the years, I have gone up and down the sizes. At the moment, I'm up. So I've been spurred on to de-clutter my one wardrobe and chest of drawers. I have only ever had one wardrobe and one chest of drawers of clothes, and this is considered minimal when you look at people like my sister, who has 6 double wardrobes of clothes, she swaps the Summer Wardrobe out for the Winter Wardrobe, stored in boxes in the loft. It takes her two full days, she is the most unhappy and depressed person I know. All those things have not bought her happiness. I have so few truly valued items, that if we had to put our belongings in a boat or sink - the things I would put in the boat are, my husband, both my children, my cat, 4 pictures, 1 statue, and 1 crystal paperweight, all gifted by my family or bought over twenty years ago and still sparking joy. My relationships bring me happiness, going out for a nice meal with my husband and two adult children, helping older friends with their shopping etc, talking with my neighbour who lost his wife and is so lonely, donating things to a local school that is in a really poor area, ie making them home made play dough and saving them cardboard boxes for junk modelling. Unlike so many, I have never succumbed to fast fashion and the pursuit of shopping as a hobby to fill some emotional void in a person's life. But this is the second time, I have de-cluttered all my clothing and this time, I realised, yet again, I bought too many things. I had already discovered the Joy of Tidying by Marie Kondo and this meant I had a lot less this time round, but now combining the two ideas of minimal living , I am trying to be far more selective when I re-purchase things in my new size. I am using a 2 or 3 out, 1 in policy, only buying things I really love, SPARK JOY and are practical for me. I have even managed to use the out and in rule to de-clutter some areas by 4 or 5 out one in. I love Linen, cotton, stretch jersey, think comfortable, yet practical. I also think that prints and colour are suitable for a minimalist, life doesn't have to be monotone and boring. I realised that the jeans belts I use with my clothing actually makes holes in the t-shirts, so have found new belts that do not have an exposed prong. They are quite expensive, but as you point out quality over quality is essential. My other more frugal and sensible sister who is my old size is going to take the t-shirts with the holes and use interfacing to repair them and wear them, as the holes are so small you can't really see them on, but not suitable for re-sale in ebay. I am going to sell the jeans belts on ebay, buy the new belts and that way my t shirts will last for ever! I have bought and sold on ebay for over 11 years and buy new, very selectively. Your videos have really changed the way, I look at things. My husband and I do live a very sustainable, frugal lifestyle ... we upcycled orange pine furniture which we bought when we got married in 1987, with a pot of grey emulsion, some oak wood stain and £20.00 worth of crystal handles from Amazon, why do people throw so many things away, when they can be given a new lease of life? The transformation was stunning, our bedroom was the first room we de-cluttered when we renovated the furniture. I honestly thing it is the most relaxing bedroom I have ever slept in. Equally, I never gift things to people who do not want them! I can't say how much your videos have touched my heart. I have de-cluttered 146 items, by donating to charity, ebaying or gifting them to schools/friends since April 2022, thats 2.3 items a day and made a fair amount in the process. Still a fraction of what they cost, but more than enough to cover the cost of the new and second hand lovingly owned items I have bougtht on ebay. I am determined to live as sustainable life style as I can, by recycling, donating, using ebay to buy and sell to keep my carbon foot print low and to live frugally. I still have way more stuff than you do and I don't think my husband would ever allow me to be as minimal as you, but if everyone in the planet held onto things a little longer, bought a little less I am sure we would be in a far better position than we currently are, people might be happier than constantly trying to "Keep up" and have more time and money to do the things that really matter in life. Stay Well and thanks so much for being such a positive role model to people out there!

I have around 150-200 things, schoes and jacked included, for all 4 seasons and all my hobbies. And I love it. It is the right amount of clothing for my lifestyle. If I am shopping, I know what I am looking for to a t. And if I dislike a tiny detail of the garment it is not right for me. If I buy something, I always get it tailored. I care for my stuff a lot. If something breaks, I get it fixed. If something is not fixable anymore, I can either buy the same garment again or make slight adjustments. I will replace it. I found my style. My eye for quality got much better over the time. I am now investing in garments that will last me my lifetime (coats, suits, traditional cultural clothing). When my budget allows it I want to buy shoes that will last me a lifetime. My budget for clothing is higher than bevor becoming minimalist and for me, it is worth it. I am paying the full price of production and the environment. I dislike when logos can be seen. I call it minimal because there is no pain. There is no "need" to satisfy by shopping. There is no envy, no comparing, no caring for each and every trend. I don't have to keep up with it. I like dressing in the morning. I like myself when I look into the mirror. I get a lot of compliments because I love myself. I like my stuff and take great care of it. But it is not a hustle to take care of it. I am happier with my minimal... *essential* lifestyle. My definition of minimal wardrobe might not work for you. I just wanted to give another example to people searching for their way.

I am a minimalist who loves color 💛 I’m in a bit of a transitional phase because I’ve lost 55 lbs, but I generally ascribe to the Project 333 template. I also base my wardrobe around gray/black- meaning everything I own can go with gray or black. I don’t have brown shoes, pants, or skirts. I got that idea from another minimalist, and I really like it.

Your new striped linen dress looks FABULOUS on you! I'm with ya on wrap style being so flattering. I have lots of wrap style items in my closet with a small waist and large rear end. There is usually a little more fabric on the bottom to accommodate the rear 😂 I've got way too much clothing. I love wearing colors and like to mix it up too much to go completely minimal. I got rid of about 40% of my clothes last year but I still have at least 200 tops, dresses, and jackets in my closet. Then an unfathomable amount of pjs, undergarments, and workout wear in my dresser 🙈 I do live in the Rockies where the temp ranges from -30 to 98 degrees. Regardless, too much stuff and I need to reevaluate lol. LOVE the new pieces though 😄 I'm obsessed with the tiered midi style right now, it's so classy and so practical as a Mom!

This was actually very helpful to me. I've worried about getting rid of too many items, but I wear only a few of them regularly. I can see now I could reduce my wardrobe at least another 50% if not more. Where I live in Oregon, we've had unusually cold rainy weather and I'm still wearing my winter clothes. I haven't even unpacked my summer clothes, yet. After the extreme heat last summer at this time (record 116 degrees), I'm actually grateful to have rainy weather. It's helping to saturate the ground which the northwest needs for it's trees. However it isn't much fun. We have to watch when the sun comes out so we can enjoy it when it's here. I know you hang your clothes to dry, but I have never seen where your washing machine is located n your home. haha I love your home, and I love your sense of style for yourself and your home. You've inspired me. Thank you.

I have a lot of clothes. The reason for that is I have pretty much stayed the same weight for most of my life. I have done several donations but still need to keep going. I appreciate how you broke it down to how you got to your goal. Although loosing your luggage was quite unfortunate. I love your energy. I feel like I would like you in my life as a friend. I have been digging buying shoes online straight from the producers here in Brazil. They are surprisingly cheap (considering), amazing quality and comfort. Way better than brand names that exploit... I feel good by supporting local businesses. Your linen pants look amazing by the way. I like your style, you are a youthful mom!

I did a rought count. I own close to 60 PCs (not including exercise wear, home wear, bras, ...etc). I feel I am pretty satisfied with it. I watched quite a few related videos but personally think there is little mentioned on those who can own very little partly due to not working in an office. I worked in an office and find it is not realistic at all to have those capsules wardrobe. I split my wardrobe into two sections - right side for office wear and the left side is for casual wear. I felt I am wearing 80percent of my office wear most of the time, and wear my causal wear during the weekends. I also need to keep some clothes for occasions like our Chinese new year or some work events. Sometimes it is just part of our work and our culture. Thus, I am looking at a wardrobe that can represent a different me at work, at events, and when I am out relaxing. That is also why I stop watching videos focusing on capsules wardrobe. I prefer this type of videos instead. I feel as long as all my clothes have space to breathe freely in the wardrobe and know I will wear them even it is once a year for an event, it is good enough.

I was down to 13 items, so over the last couple of months I have moved it up to 35 items, including PJ's. This does not count winter coats. I live in the country in Montana so many of my clothes are work clothes. Mine is color coordinated always. I follow the rule, one in one out now that I'm back to my comfortable 35 items. I guess I forgot the item in part and got a little behind. I have 15 of the items with tags still on, 5 pairs of shoes, 2 purses. Looking forward to wearing the new items soon. Great video thank you so much!

For me, it is a constant question of what is too much. I own about 260 pieces (55% second-hand, most more than 5yrs old), including everyday garments, activewear and elegant pieces. I need to dress up for many different occasion types and I love to have variations. The last time I checked which cloth I would buy again or enjoyed the most, it was around 170 pieces. So it shows that in the long run, it will be less, but I keep some stuff I can wear in extreme conditions without worrying about what will happen.

@@kimgordon3695 that was not the point. The question was: how many items do you have and are you happy with that amount... being minimal and or being happy with the things you have does not mean the same thing for everyone. And to be honest: if you have quite a few things and keep them many years it has the same effect as if you were to only have 4 things that get worn out over the course of one season..........

I live in central North Carolina which can be beastly hot from May through October. Currently, I own six t-shirts, eight tops, three pair of (identical) black shorts, and two dresses in my summer wardrobe. I had eight t-shirts but two ended up in my out box when I went to count before writing this comment! Another top is up for consideration for the chopping block but I'm not quite ready to decide. (It's a little snug.) I've been on a two-year weight loss journey (70 pounds so far) so I'm going to give myself a little deciding time on that piece. Love your channel! Always inspiring!

I had to size up after my first two pregnancies and now I’m stuck with my “minimalist large maternity wardrobe” which consists of only about 20 pieces. Last I counted, I think I have 70-ish items not including accessories or loungewear...oh or coats/jackets 🙃 I'd love to be able to bring that number down to 40 to start with because frankly the more I've paid attention, the more I realize how much easier it is -- and fun -- to get dressed with less! Where I am right now is, there's at least 12 items I can think of that I could probably get rid of but I'm stuck on two things: one is the fact that if I did want to replace them it would be difficult to do so because I'm very hard to fit, and two is that some items I literally cannot replace because they are few-of-a-kind older sentimental garments. ...That said, it is so exciting to realize how close I am to feeling ready to let them go! I have found so much peace of mind and am seeing more and more clearly now that it is all just "stuff" 🥰

I don't know exactly how many clothing items I have in my closet but I do know that it's relatively small and fits my lifestyle. I have a separate work wardrobe from my everyday wardrobe. Again, it's small so in the morning it's easier to pick something out.
