.22wmr Speer Gold Dot vs Federal V-Shok (Speer TNT) Ballistic Gel Test! Which One For Self Defense?

Ойын-сауық

Another .22wmr test to see if a dedicated "self defense" round is better than a regular hollow point. Which one is the BEST? .22wmr is a little tough to find during the "ammo shortage."

Wow, that is quite a shocker 😂 Nice expansion on both, but I was surprised at the penetration of the V-shock being so much lower. I would pick the gold dot strictly based on penetration. Thanks for the test!

Nice test on two very good rounds! Love me some .22 WMR. #jellytime I did a little test last weekend on the Speer Gold Dot vs Hornady Critical Defense in .22 WMR. Shot from Ruger Single Six 5.5" bbl. I shot into three 2.5 gallon Supertech DEF plastic jugs placed sideways, so about 10+ inches wide per jug. These jugs are heavy wall tough plastic. Both rounds did really well. Great expansion busting through 3 to 4 layers of plastic. A few rounds stopped in second jug, a couple broke the 5 layer of plastic, but did not fully penetrate third jug. Both round had great expansion and weight retention. I estimate 20"+ of penetration, which is great at 7 yards. I will give the edge to Speer Gold Dot with a little more expansion and didn't lose as many copper petals. The Critical Defense lost a lot of petals and the ramaining petals were hanging straight out from bullet, rather than wrapped around the bullet. Also shot some Hornady V Max, but it went through jugs and never found any. Ive done those before and never got any expansion, but found the polymer tips in jug. #juggytime

Another great comparison test. As beautiful as the V- shock expanded, I think it fell a little short on penetration for self defense applications. I think the Gold Dot would be a better choice for that particular barrel length. If I had a very short barrel perhaps the V-Shock might be a better choice as the Gold Dot might not expand enough. More tests would be needed to be sure.

@@ToolsandTargets That lil' old barkeep would do just fine. I have one just like it. I had some duds with those dynapoints, I wasn't to impressed. Maybe you'll have better luck. Thank you kindly!

Whats up Tools!! Hope alls good! Looks like the faster round expanded faster and better and put the brakes on the penetration. I wouldnt want to get hit with either lol! Ut Oh theres a new 22 - 9 shot revolver out with a hinged cylinder and comes with a magnum crane/cylinder saw on The Firearm Guy's channel that looked pretty sweet! diamond back sidekick gonna have to add that one to your 22 collection! lol! I sure like it! Have a good one brother! pewwwwwwwwwww>>>>>>

Yeah, I'll pass on being a test dummy for either one too. I saw that sidekick on their site the other day. Looks pretty cool but I think I'm good on .22 revolvers for quite a while!😂😂

Both are excellent rounds, but I don't think for the same thing. I think the V-Shock would be a better small game round and the Gold Dot is the better self defense round (probably one of the best).
