I am Ukrainian. My country has been invaded by Russia. In this video, I will tell you what happened on the 850 day of the war.
Day 850: Jun 22
Today, there are a lot of new developments in the Liman direction.
The biggest news comes from the Serebryansky forest area, where a Ukrainian assault brigade released intense first-person combat footage of their recent storming operation of a large and important Russian stronghold.
The Serebryansky Forest is the underbelly of the large battle up north, where Russians are attempting to eliminate the Ukrainian bridgehead on the Zherebets River and advance up to Liman. Control over a large part of the forest allows Ukrainians to conduct flanking attacks and launch drone strikes on any Russian attack toward the river. Therefore, Ukrainian positions in the forest have heavily contributed to the successful Ukrainian defense on the eastern bank of the river.
To eliminate this threat, Russians often conduct large infantry assaults with extensive artillery support on Ukrainian positions in the forest. Ukrainians, in turn, maintain an active defense in the forest, performing frequent raids during the day and at night to prevent Russians from freely accumulating forces for further attacks and undermining their areas of control.
To maintain their area of control in the forest, Russians have created numerous strongholds in the form of extensive trench networks surrounded by smaller trenches, foxholes, or dugouts. The thick tree belts don’t allow for large-scale mechanized maneuvers, causing the frontline here to be much more static. However, Ukrainian commanders concluded that they needed to shift the frontline to a more favorable position to hold the defense line in the forest more efficiently. They identified a specific Russian stronghold in the center of the forest, designated ‘Dragonfly,’ which, if captured, would significantly boost Ukrainian defensive potential. To accomplish this mission, they charged the Ukrainian 12th Special Purpose Assault Brigade to capture this position.
The 12th brigade accepted their task and started by identifying and fully mapping out the Russian trench network, as they formed a platoon-sized assault group of around 36 soldiers to storm the stronghold itself. Morale under the Ukrainian soldiers was high, as they noted that all soldiers in the battalion wanted to storm, and people quickly volunteered.
During the night, the soldiers moved into position while Ukrainian mortar teams set up and zeroed in on their expected targets. The assault began in the early morning with an artillery barrage as the infantry prepared to move out with a tank as armored support. Ukrainian sappers had also cleared the way for the tank to ensure it did not drive over any Russian antitank mines. The tank moved up, firing directly onto the smaller Russian positions surrounding the stronghold to open a direct path into the stronghold for the assault group.
The tank continued to advance with the infantry, and over the radio, Russians were heard frantically calling to retreat and requesting artillery support. A Ukrainian soldier stated that they had surprised the Russians with this assault and that their artillery was likely still sleeping or otherwise unready to provide fire support for the Russian defenders.
At that point, the Ukrainian tank was hit by a Russian anti-tank weapon, putting it out of action and leaving the Ukrainians without armored support. Ukrainian soldiers note that this operation was well-planned and all scenarios considered, so they were able to maintain cohesion and continue their assault. The tank crew survived, and as they pulled back to safety, the Ukrainian soldiers all immediately opened fire to maintain fire superiority and keep the Russians in the trenches suppressed.
Ukrainians continued their attack, moving into the trench network from all sides while throwing grenades. During the assault, the extensive planning of Ukrainians became more evident, as all trenches were mapped and designated beforehand, which led to efficient and direct communication with their commander. The commander coordinated the entire operation through a live drone feed and called out the precise trenches the Russians were in and where Russian reinforcements were coming from.
After fierce Russian resistance and close-quarters fighting in the trenches, Ukrainian soldiers...

That's why advance/modern weapons are only a piece of the puzzle. The Saudis have bought every high tech weapon the US was willing to sell them. However during the civil war in Yemen the Saudi military was impotent because of their command structure. No unit was allowed any degree of self determination and everything done must have approval from the top. Most dictatorships and authoritarian countries follow the same concept their soldiers aren't allowed to think for themselves, the exercise complete control over every foot soldier since they fear being overthrown by their own military.

Your comment raises some interesting questions. I think most people would agree that restoring Ukrainian territorial borders, pre 2014 would be an ideal objective but what next? Here lies the dichotomy for the Wrst. Russia is never going to allow its own territory to be invaded ( without incurring a cataclysmic response) so is never going to be defeated militarily. The question then arises as to do the West ideally want to see regime change. The answer is probably not for strange though it may seem Putin is a long way from being the most brutal or psychotic Russian leader since 1917. The bottom line is Putin is rational and has created a major problem for himself in his dreadful miscalculation in invading Ukraine. The West however is well aware that humiliation of Russia and deposing Putin may lead to a far worse replacement, someone like Prighozin, who shares Putin’s psychopathy but lacks his intelligence or indeed experience. There are no obvious answers to the dilemma of what a Russian defeat would look like or even should look like. The worst possible outcome would be the dissolution of Russia into a cluster of independent states, armed to the teeth with ICBM’s but with no political checks and balances.

"The most terrifying force of death comes from the hands of men who wanted to be left alone. They try, so very hard, to mind their own business and provide for themselves and those they love. They resist every impulse to fight back, knowing the forced and permanent change of life that will come from it. They know, that the moment they fight back, their lives as they have lived then, are over. The moment the men who wanted to be left alone are forced to fight back, it is a form of suicide. They are literally killing off who they used to be. Which is why, when forced to take up violence, these men who wanted to be left alone, fight with unholy vengeance against those who murdered their former lives. They fight with raw hate, and a drive that cannot be fathomed by those who are merely play-acting at politics and terror. Terror will arrive at these people's door, and they will cry, scream, and beg for mercy. But it will fall upon the deaf ears of the men who just wanted to be left alone." - Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn

It is why they say attacking forces must be a minimum of 3 to 5 times greater than a defending force to have any chance of success. Defenders of their own land fight with a tenacity attackers can rarely match. Give both sides the same weaponry and the attacker loses 90+% of the time as history bears witness to again and again.

This highlights a huge difference in military doctrine between RuZZia and Ukraine. RuZZia relies upon huge artillery barrages to make up for poorly-trained front line soldiers. Ukraine relies upon well-trained and highly motivated soldiers using mobility, planning, and coordination. If only Ukraine could also even up the artillery power and air superiority that the RuZZians possess, the momentum would shift decisively in Ukraine’s favor.

@@tasmedic you gotta look at the political situation in america. there is about an even amount of democrats and republicans every election. the election is really decided by the 8 percent of independents. and that 8 percent doesnt like government disrupting their lives, and trump does that. as well there is about 20 percent of the republicans that wont vote for trump. so forget the polls of republicans and democrats. its gonna be decided by that 8 percent of independents who showed they dont like trump last election, and the 20 percent of reagan republicans who wont vote for trump. so think about that. you look at those trump rallies, they are not full, and the report is they are paying people to come and sit to make it more full than it is. neither biden or trump are popular, but that 8 percent of independents and that 20 percent of regan republicans will likely vote for biden.

They are specifically an assault battalion. These are the most highly skilled and highly motivated infantry fighters on the planet at this point in time. It's very difficult to get an entire battalion to this level of proficiency, as the "graduation process" is typically casualty heavy. The Russians had their VDV assault battalions, but they were mostly "used up" as defensive cannon fodder during the liberation of Kherson, which just goes to show that once you have such an asset you can only use them for what they truly excel at: analysing, planing and executing storming opperations. You can be 100% sure that mere hours after the opperation they had all been rotated out, and a defence unit got the (dubious) task of holding the trench under heavy shelling. But yes... I wonder how they can run so fast with brass nuts the size of bowling balls.
