21.8 Michael Reactions | Organic Chemistry
Chad provides a comprehensive lesson on Michael Reactions which involve conjugate or 1,4-addition to a conjugated ketone. A conjugated ketone is referred to as the Michael acceptor and typical Michael donors include the enolate of a beta-diketone and organocuprates (Gilmann reagents). A detailed mechanism with arrow-pushing is included and examples showing how the choice of nucleophile is the distinction of whether 1,2-addition or 1,4-addition occurs.
