Volkswagen Passat safety test all generations
While there's no official confirmation from Volkswagen about a 2025 Passat sedan, it's highly unlikely that the Passat will continue its run in its current form beyond 2023 or 2024. Here's what we know:
Discontinuation in North America and Europe:
In 2022, Volkswagen announced that it would discontinue the Passat sedan in North America by the end of the 2023 model year. This decision was primarily driven by the shifting consumer preference towards SUVs and crossovers. Similarly, in 2023, Volkswagen announced the end of the Passat sedan in Europe, with the last models expected to roll off the production line in 2024.
Focus on Electrification and SUVs:
Volkswagen has been shifting its focus towards electrification and SUVs in recent years. The company has invested heavily in developing electric vehicles (EVs) and has set ambitious goals for increasing its EV production. Additionally, Volkswagen has been expanding its SUV lineup, introducing new models like the Taos and T-Roc.
Replacement by Arteon and ID.7:
In North America and Europe, the Passat sedan is being replaced by the Arteon, a larger and more upscale sedan that is also available as a wagon. Additionally, the Volkswagen ID.7, an electric sedan based on the MEB platform, is expected to fill the void left by the Passat in some markets.
China-Specific Passat Variant:
While the Passat sedan is being phased out in most markets, it will continue to be produced and sold in China under the name Magotan. This China-specific model will receive ongoing updates and is not expected to be replaced by the ID.7.
