If you are given a choice to purchase an Automatic Transmission, which one will you get? The new mini cooper S 2025 or Toyota GR86 Trueno?? Asking for a friend.

Im all for change if it’s good, but the exclusion of 2 tail pipes is a sin. And the styling of the rear tail lights don’t match the personality of the car. I was also hoping MINI would decrease the width of the black cladding over the wheels. But a very nice interior. Seems like you’re the first to review the new MINI! ✌️

Yes I am and since I have done quite a few I was really excited to get behind the wheel. The extra power was welcome but like I said in another comment it doesn’t stay planted. The go-cart feel is still awesome as always both off the line it isn’t as good. Overall I like the updates but it will take sometime for all the changes to marinade.

I like it. I like the looks of my 24 better, but the 25 still looks very much like a MINI. I know a lot of others are upset the manual was discontinued, the exhaust pipes are now hidden, and the hood scoop for the S was removed. The only thing I don't like is the new tail lights.

I did a side by side comparison (still editing from yesterday Mini event) and the 24 looks a lot more aggressive. The drive to this is a lot more smooth but it keeps the Mini dna (fun to drive) however the inside is taking me sometime to get used to.

In my view Mini reached its pinnacle with its R56 - the design and proportions were spot on. Everything that came afterwards, is a bit of a bloated, electronic gizmo loaded caricature. OK. Maybe we’ll forgive the F56. But nothing beyond that. Now the MINI is actually a MAXI.

I love my F56 S. I really wish they would have differentiated the S trim a bit more; something as simple as keeping the twin tailpipes and hood scoop would have done wonders for the exterior. And the interior just feels like a builders grade generic apartment. It looks nice but it’s lacking the character and quirks the R and F gens had.

I agree now the JCW will be the only one that stands out and the interior you nailed it. It's clean but too much for a Mini 👍

Nice review Anthony. I can tell that you had so much fun driving that little car. I'd love to drive one sometime but as a daily driver it's just way too tiny. It reminded me of The Italian Job too lol! Happy Friday eve and hoping that you are doing great!

Great video! Would you say that the driving dynamics of the 2025 are an improvement over the 2024’s?

The ride is a lot more smooth but handling is the same however the extra power makes the wheels spin. 2024 and under stay planted off the line better but the the seat comfort is a huge difference even with these JCW seats. You can drive the 2025 for hours and you will not be tired but with the 2024 and under I drove them hours, the seats will wear you out. I like both models but the 2025 polish off areas I wish the 2024 model did.

Could the improvements in ride quality in the F66 be mostly attributed to different tires? I may be mistaken, but I recall reading MINI is opting out of run-flat tires for their new models. That along with an increase in tread-width makes a large improvement in ride quality, as I could speak to these changes on my F56. I have yet to see the new model in person, but I prefer the look of the older model inside and out.

No the ride is night and day different, I drive a sports car daily and have been working with Mini for a few years now (before KZread). As for the look, they made it very modern and I agree it’s going to take sometime for me to get use to it as well. We don’t even get a side scuttle and no real gauge cluster, it’s still fun to drive and in the US market paddle shift are only on the JCW.

With my current Cooper 1.5 DCT, I can engage manual mode by pushing the gear lever to the left. Is there any way to engage manual mode with the new model?

  • @HawkeyeRides

Only a d/l switch nothing else like the 2024. I wish it had a shifter / paddles but the change is to give the airy feel with more space which can take away from the engagement.

Just been checking the UK configurator. Paddles can be had with the new 1.5 Cooper and 2.0 Cooper S, but only if you opt for Sport trim which comes at an extra £3,500 over the standard Cooper and Cooper S. You also get JCW style bodykit, seats, wheels, etc.

I know the exterior styling is different on the JCW but the US website still doesn’t should all features or ordering yet. I only like to state what I see or research on reviews. Thanks for the insight. Here you can search but by dealerships and right now we only have 2 in the USA which this is one of them.
