    Love the changes Atomic is making to key skis and adding a Maverick 105 & 115 - their killing it for 24-25. Loose and playful in the trees and can rip GS turns? 24 Rustler 9 is pretty close at least in the 186 for this 185lb lb expert. Love the sound of ths new 100 for my son who wants a playful ski but consistently find himself hauling butt. Or for the swath of friends that are Advanced and want something fun that helps them expand their off piste tree- bump repitoire.

    One important point that you brought up in previous models was the price point to value. I own a pair of 2023’s and I love them. The price was around 450. previous years making them, to me, the best ski, hands down for the price. Yes, they may have made a bit better ski, but they want 200. more for the improvements. But we also have to figure in the environmental benefits of materials being used which may be like organic vs. non-organic produce where the enviro- friendly materials cost more?

    While providing information about what we choose to do with mount points is something we've shared in the past, we're also very aware that this is a personal thing and is mainly a journey skiers must take themselves. If applicable or notable in a specific ski, especially if that ski has multiple lines, we'll generally talk about it. If a ski has one line and is more of a directional shape, we feel that's the proper point based on the ski's intended engineering and application.

  • @SkiEssentials

    @SkiEssentials

    5 ай бұрын

    Regarding the 105, the move to the CTi build makes it a very stiff and strong performer. For how well it floats, it's incredibly light and maneuverable, but also stiff and sturdy. This is a high-octane ski and will make a lot of aggressive skiers very happy. As for the Origin/Bent relationship, the Atomic is still more flexible in the tips and tails. The Origin is smoother and quieter with slightly higher end performance.

    Great review. I’m in the low intermediate group and haven’t skied a ton, but progressed really quickly this year. I like to try and ski all mountain but it’s just hard when you get the rentals at the resort. Would you think this could be a good ski to buy and grow into? I have been told I will have issues turning on the ski as a newer skier. Also looking at the blaze 94. Thoughts between the two? 5’7 155-160 pounds

  • @SkiEssentials

    @SkiEssentials

    4 ай бұрын

    It is not difficult to turn, it's more that it doesn't carve hard on firm snow as well as some other skis, but just turning it is very easy. The Blaze has a bit more pop and zest to it, and some more grip as well. The Bent is more playful while the Blaze is more precise. Based on what you're looking to do, it does seem like the Blaze is a slightly better fit, but you have two very nice options here. I'd go 172 in that ski, maybe 165 if you're less aggressive.

    We'll certainly be taking a closer look at Liberty's wholesale changes. I skied the Radian 92 and Scope 104 the other day and really enjoyed the Radian--wasn't really a Scope day. They've also ditched the bamboo and vertical metal, relying more on poplar and horizontal metal now. Radian has a highly mobile shape to it and fits my style of shorter turns and more energetic skiing quite well. It's also very interesting in the Radian line, specifically, that the core profile thickness is a lot thinner than that of Evolv.

    You might find better success with the Maverick, especially since you're mainly on-piste and in heavier snow if off. Hi Jeff Hi Bob. Did you guys notice any flex difference in the tail, knowing the fact they added finally a bit of tail rocker... ? I sold in January my bent chetler 100, honestly didn't like the ski at all, and have some high hopes that the new chasis changed for better.. Tail rocker in bent 100 18-24" gen felt like a brick, and made ski dive a lot, having super soft tip, and super stiff tail with almost no rocker, making hard to ski bumps. Also doing 180's was hard rather than 360.. As well as turning while skiing switch. Also mounted my bent 100, same as Jeff at +6, just to make enough length for almost empty tail rocker.

  • @SkiEssentials

    @SkiEssentials

    4 ай бұрын

    I think it's easy to say that I certainly prefer the new Bent 100 to the old one--the longer wood core and added tail rocker are two of the main culprits for sure. I don't think it's a totally different ski, so if you didn't like the old one at all, you will likely feel roughly the same way about the new one. I don't think the +6 is doing you any favors in deeper snow, perhaps leading to the diving characteristics and sub-par mogul performance.

    Great reviews - recently discovered this channel. Do you have any views why (apparently) in US you test / ride more of wider skis (so significantly above 80mm), when at the same time in Europe they only try to sell me those race / slalom carving skis (70mm or less). I see that you also mostly test on the slopes (groomers), so this is not potentially the freeride aspect. Greetings from Germany

  • @SkiEssentials

    @SkiEssentials

    5 ай бұрын

    We talk about this from time to time. There's more marketing energy in Europe behind the pure and narrow carvers, and I think that's because racing is more a part of the culture. Here in North America, the concept of freeride seems more important to the manufacturers, hence the wider emphasis. As such, we also find that freeride is a subjective term and more of a style of skiing based on where you are and how you ski. While things like the Freeride World Tour can certainly put their own definition of the term and have a strong foot to stand on, most skiers can at least access these same feelings and sensations in less than extreme conditions and terrain.

    I hope you get them to the studio and compare with the old model side by side. Change in shape and rocker would be nice to see next to the outgoing model. Questions arise. Given the tail rocker I guess now they ski a bit shorter than the old ones? The old model felt surprisingly long for such a playful ski. Weight is also something to consider. Are they heavier? This would affect touring capability. I wish they have put 120 sizing but anyway, personal preference.

  • @SkiEssentials

    @SkiEssentials

    5 ай бұрын

    I think the added density to the core and especially in the tip makes more of a difference than the tail rocker. The new ski is a bit heavier than the old one, about 20 grams per ski, so not a whole lot. I didn't find the 186 to ski shorter than the 188.

    Hmm. Not on topic of Bent 100 specifically so likely DNQ. However, brought up the mention of getting my ski team mounted (Jeff talking about mount points) this year, while the shop intake staff was insistent that I wanted a center mount. And how this applies to your video, beyond that I just like some knowledge and it is fun to watch the skiing, it likely doesn't. But I was fairly promptly told; top sheets are not always set consistently on a set "pair" of skis. I was shocked, because suddenly I realize, they were dead right. I was then promptly "bullied" into, 'if you are mounting twin tips, you have to be in the park.' Hahaha. Dead. I'm dead. Hahaha. Guess I ski park now.

  • @SkiEssentials

    @SkiEssentials

    5 ай бұрын

    So yes, we do see topsheet graphics that are not lined up. It's always best to measure each ski from the tail to find the precise mount point that you want. If the factory line on a Bent 100, for example, is -6 from true center, then you do have to measure the entire ski and then work from the tail on each. That said, there's really only truly symmetrical park skis that are ultimately best served by a true center mount, and that's done mainly by supreme preference for total equality and balance. That's like .02% of the twin tip population. Most skiers ski on non-symmetrical twin tips with more all-mountain oriented mount points. Enjoy the park!

    Looking for advice here. I used to ski a faction CT 2.0 2022 (102) in 178 which I mounted dead center. Even tho the skis lost a lot of carving power with this mounting point i liked them way better because they were extremely responsive and playful. I then purchased a Black Crows Atris 2022 (108) in 184 which I mounted at the recommended spot as these are my touring set up. After trying the set up my conclusion is that it carves well on groomer but I am extremely disappointed by the off piste performance. They ride well in powder but feel very heavy and slow on the trees. They are also the opposite of playful. I am an advanced skier on the east coast, i ski strong but only weight 150lbs at 5’10. I am thinking of remounting the skis with regular fix on a spot close to dead center. Do you think this could make the skis feel more alive? Or maybe I should size down to 178? I like hitting a little bit of everything all over the mountain from starting with a challenge on the double blacks out of bounds, to bombing groomers to get that speed rush but my favourite is playing around the whole mountain, finding small jumps to hit through the trees and what not and just adventuring trying to do small tricks like 360’s all over the mountain or 180’s, nothing crazy as I only hit park like 5-10% of the day typically but I’d like to get better at bigger jumps eventually. playfulness and ease of use are two big highlights of the Bent 100. On firm snow, it can't quite stand up to the Enforcer 99 by a long shot in terms of grip or stability. The Bent needs slightly softer snow in order to compete, otherwise it's not a fair fight.

  • @SkiEssentials

    @SkiEssentials

    5 ай бұрын

    The Evolv has more smoothness and stability for sure. The square tail and low profile tip make the Liberty a wide front side ski, in essence while the Bent 100 is still strictly in the creative and freeride zone. If you are my size and charge hard and aren't looking for as maneuverable or playful ski, the Evolv is a more relevant choice.

    @@SkiEssentials thank you! I currently own the evolv plus most of the origin line from liberty. My only complaint, as you stated with the evolv is that it gets kinda tough to maneuver in bumps and in tight trees, but I primarily use it as a hard pack, front side ski

I haven’t been able to ride any of their skis but was surprised to see you hadn’t reviewed them yet. When on the lifts I’ve talked to quite a few people with them and they always have good things to say. Out of all of their offerings I’d probably be most interested in seeing a review for the Jeffrey 100 or Woodsman 100. Both these models tailor toward what I personally like to ride. With your guys knowledge and extensive background on testing skis I’d be interested to see where these models stack up.

    There's more pop and pep and energy out of the turn in the Ripstick as it's got that more directional tail shape and carbon rods. If you're mixing on and off-trail, the Ripstick will deliver more precise carving performance. If you're playful and creative and looking for a fun-loving ski, it's tough to go against these Bent 100's.

    @@llSkyzxll There's a lot of factors at play here. Use rate, intensity, care, the unknown...the list goes on. If we're assuming that an average skier skis about 10 days per year, then the skis should last at least a few seasons before they start to lose energy, but you can certainly make a pair last a lot longer than that.

    That's more of a question for your financial advisor. I can say that from a skiing perspective, the 2025 is a better ski. This does not mean that the 2024 is all of a sudden a bad product--it works darn nearly as well. We currently have the 2024 version for $454.97 while the new ones look to retail at $649.95. For me, I don't think that it's $200 better, but that's just my opinion given my relationship with my bank account. www.skiessentials.com/products/2024-atomic-bent-100-skis-w-tyrolia-attack-14-gw-bindings?ski%2520size=164

    Compared to the Black Crow Camox?

  • @SkiEssentials

    @SkiEssentials

    5 ай бұрын

    The Camox is stiffer consistently from tip to tail. This makes it more reactive and more stable, especially with the added weight. I think that more aggressive skiers who like to open it up a bit more will enjoy the Camox while those that fall more into the freestyle and creative realms will fare better on the Bent 100.
