It's so true. I love what you said about what will come b Next at retirement. ❤ i also lobed messing with an orfinary notebook. Painting on cardboard is difficult though. I also love "learm from my learning." as apposed to a midtake or screw up.

Instead of paint try collaging gel print onto cardboard cover.

This spoke to me on so many levels. Thanks for the inspiration and motivation. I do have a question for you. I am a newbie to art journaling and to mixed media. As we come to the end of the year I am faced with the same dilemma I have each year regarding my calendars. I LOVE my calendars. I have floral ones, garden ones, golden retriever ones, and the list goes on. What would you suggest I do with them? I'm not sure whether to make them backgrounds or focal images. And honestly, I have no idea how to do either. Bless you for all you do here.

Thanks so much . Glad it hit a cord. Picking a word and doing the word of the year video is one of my favorite posts. Absolutely use those calendars....your instincts are right...use them as focals ( one page may end up being multiple art journal pages having several elements.) or use them in the background...isolating some part and creating over the rest. Alternatively you can leave the picture and create over the calendar part. Really the possibilities are endless. Gesso is your friend here.....to cover up what you don't want ( isolate what you do) You can also use clear gesso to prep the paper for doing mixed media. I have done some pages using calendars....maybe its time for another one...or a series ...hmmmm. Happy creating

When you make journals in a composition book, do you do art on each page or do you glue some together to make them thicker before painting, etc on them?
